In contrast, perceived action boundaries shifted leftward following exposure to the new force field, regardless of the direction of the rotation. Overall, these findings support the idea that abrupt exposure to a new force field results in a direction-specific updating of the central sensorimotor representations underlying the control of arm movements. Abrupt exposure to a new force field also results in a nonspecific shift in the perception of action boundaries, which is consistent with a contraction of the peripersonal space. Such effect, which does not appear to be related to state anxiety, could be related to the protective role of the peripersonal space in response to the uncertainty of the sensorimotor system induced by the abrupt modification of the environment.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) recently ranked air pollution as the major environmental cause of premature death. However, the significant potential health and societal costs of poor mental health in relation to air quality are not represented in the WHO report due to limited evidence. We aimed to test the hypothesis that long-term exposure to air pollution is associated with poor mental health.

A prospective longitudinal population-based mental health survey was conducted of 1698 adults living in 1075 households in South East London, from 2008 to 2013. High-resolution quarterly average air pollution concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO

), particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter < 10μm (PM
) and < 2.5μm (PM
) were linked to the home addresses of the study participants. Associations with mental health were analysed with the use of multilevel generalised linear models, after adjusting for large number of confounders, including the individuals' socioeconomic position and exposure to road-traffic noise.

We found robust evidence for interquartile range increases in PM
, NO
and NO
to be associated with 18-39% increased odds of common mental disorders, 19-30% increased odds of poor physical symptoms and 33% of psychotic experiences only for PM
. These longitudinal associations were more pronounced in the subset of non-movers for NO
and NO
.

The findings suggest that traffic-related air pollution is adversely affecting mental health. Whilst causation cannot be proved, this work suggests substantial morbidity from mental disorders could be avoided with improved air quality.

Whilst causation cannot be proved, this work suggests substantial morbidity from mental disorders could be avoided with improved air quality.Sudden unexplained death in childhood (SUDC) is defined as the unexplained death of a child over the age of 12 months. The National Coronial Information System (NCIS) Australia was used to access data for deaths of children aged 1 to 4 years over the period 2010 to 2014. Cases were classified as those in which the cause of death was determined and those in which the child died suddenly and unexpectedly, and the cause of death remained undetermined. Categorical information was extracted for each case to determine risk factors associated with the cause of death. The overall rate of death in Australian children aged 1 to 4 years and for whom coronial data was available from 2010 to 2014 was 9.69/100,000 children. A cause of death was determined in 87% of cases with the average rate of death in this group being 8.49/100,000. Death remained undetermined in 13% of cases. The study determined that the SUDC rate in Australian children aged 1 to 4 years was 0.02/100,000. However, this rate may be as high as 0.40/100,000 children should further investigation be undertaken. These children tended to be 18-20 months of age and male, with death occurring primarily while prone during a sleep period in cooler months, thus having similar characteristics to sudden infant death syndrome.

We detected the DNA of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2), varicella-zoster virus (VZV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in donor corneas and assessed the clinical outcomes of recipients who received virus-positive grafts.

All donor corneas were analyzed for the presence of HSV-1, HSV-2, VZV, CMV, and EBV by real-time PCR from April 2017 to July 2019. The medical records of the transplant patients who received virus-positive grafts were reviewed.

Twenty-three (2.44%) donor cornea buttons tested positive for herpesviridae DNA. The positivity rates of HSV-1, CMV, VZV, and EBV were 0.74%, 0.85%, 0.64%, and 0.21%, respectively.

We suggest that the corneas from donors who had cancer, donors who were inpatients, and donors who had immunodeficiency or who were on immunosuppressive therapy should be tested for herpesviridae DNA before transplantation. Finally, HSV-1 can be transmitted from graft to recipient, but that CMV cannot be transmitted according to our observations.
