While exposure to violence and aggression is well known for its detrimental effects on employees' health as well as organizational outcomes, certain high-risk work domains have scarcely been researched. Thus, this study set out to determine negative consequences of work-related exposure to four forms of harmful behaviors in private security. Iron metabolism plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of HCC; however, the prognostic value of iron metabolism-related and methylated genes for HCC needs to be further explored. In the present study, we identified differentially expressed genes (DEGs) that play a role in iron metabolism and DNA methylation in HCC from The Cancer Genome Atlas. Four of these DEGs, whose expression levels are correlated with HCC prognosis, namely, RRM2, FTCD, CYP2C9, and ATP6V1C1, were further used to construct a prognostic model for HCC, wherein the risk score was calculated using the gene expression of the four DEGs. This could be used to predict the overall survival of HCC patients for 1, 3, and 5 years. Results of a multivariate Cox regression analysis further indicated that the risk score was an independent variable correlated with the prognosis of HCC patients. The identified gene signature was further validated using an independent cohort of HCC patients from the International Cancer Genome Consortium. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis and gene set enrichment analysis were performed to identify potential regulatory mechanisms of the gene signature in HCC. Taken together, we identified key prognostic factors of iron metabolism-related and methylated genes for HCC, providing a potential treatment strategy for HCC.Radiation-induced hemorrhagic gastritis (RIHG) is a rare but potentially fatal event following radiotherapy for locally advanced gastric cancer; the treatment of this condition is not standardized. Only few cases of RIHG have been reported, treated with different therapeutic approaches. Here we report the case of a 79-year-old patient who underwent subtotal gastrectomy for gastric cancer, followed by adjuvant chemo-radiotherapy. Approximately 3 months after the end of the treatment, she developed recurrent diffuse bleeding originating from the entire mucosa of the gastric pouch and from a marginal ulcer. As the bleeding was refractory to several endoscopic treatments and surgery was not indicated, the patient underwent two sessions of transcatheter selective arterial embolization, with resolution of bleeding. Arterial embolization has already been reported for the treatment of hemorrhagic cystitis, developing after irradiation of the pelvis for prostate, bladder, rectum, and cervix cancer. However, to our knowledge, it has never been reported as a treatment for hemorrhagic gastritis. Based on this case, we suggest arterial embolization as an option in the management of RIHG, when standard endoscopic treatment fails.
The primary method of drug delivery to treat asthma is through pressurized metered dose inhalers (pMDI). Asthma guidelines recommend that providers prescribe a spacer for all patients using pMDI. The objective of this study was to examine whether microbial contamination of spacer devices is associated with poor asthma outcomes.
This was a cross-sectional, single-center case series of seven pediatric patients with persistent asthma who had previously been prescribed a spacer. Spacers were swabbed with sterile cotton and samples assessed for bacterial/fungal growth. Parents completed a questionnaire including Asthma Control Test (ACT) and asthma control was assessed by an Allergist/Immunologist physician.
