The rate of re-revision after 1-stage exchange for streptococcal PJI is high. Eradication of a streptococcal PJI of the hip remains challenging. Further extensive and comparative studies between 1-and 2-stage exchange are encouraged.Financial well-being describes when people feel able to meet their financial obligations, feel financially secure and are able to make choices that benefit their quality of life. Financial strain occurs when people are unable to pay their bills, feel stressed about money and experience negative impacts on their quality of life and health. In the face of the global economic repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, community-led approaches are required to address the setting-specific needs of residents and reduce the adverse impacts of widespread financial strain. To encourage evidence-informed best practices, a provincial health authority and community-engaged research centre collaborated to conduct a rapid review. We augmented the rapid review with an environmental scan and interviews. Our data focused on Western Canada and was collected prior to the pandemic (May-September 2019). We identified eight categories of community-led strategies to promote financial well-being systems navigation and access; financial literacy and skills; emergency financial assistance; asset building; events and attractions; employment and educational support; transportation; and housing. We noted significant gaps in the evidence, including methodological limitations of the included studies (e.g. generalisability, small sample size), a lack of reporting on the mechanisms leading to the outcomes and evaluation of long-term impacts, sparse practice-based data on evaluation methods and outcomes, and limited intervention details in the published literature. Critically, few of the included interventions specifically targeted financial strain and/or well-being. learn more We discuss the implications of these gaps in addition to possibilities and priorities for future research and practice. We also consider the results in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic consequences.Francisella tularensis is the etiologic agent of tularemia, a bacterial zoonotic disease. The genome of F. tularensis shows a recent evolutionary change, especially in reservoirs. Variable number of tandem repeats (VNTR) is described as a high-speed molecular clock and can thus be used as a high-resolution typing system. The main objective of our study was to investigate the molecular diversity of F. tularensis strains and reveal possible sources of infection. Using real-time PCR targeting the ISFtu2 region, we successfully amplified targeted DNA in 13/31 Slovenian patients with a clinical diagnosis of tularemia, and with PCR targeting the fopA gene, we obtained 11/13 PCR products. Sequencing revealed that all samples were identified as F. tularensis subsp. holarctica. We successfully obtained one F. tularensis isolate from a lymph node aspirate by culture on chocolate agar. Our isolate was clustered into major clade B12 (subclade B43). We optimized VNTR typing to be used directly on clinical samples. Multiple-locus VNTR analysis (MLVA) revealed five unique MLVA types; 45.5% samples had the same MLVA type, another 27.3% shared a different MLVA type, and each of the remaining had a unique MLVA type. Most samples differed at only two VNTR markers (Ft-M03 and Ft-M06). Additionally, we investigated samples from small mammals (n = 532) and Ixodes ricinus ticks (n = 232) captured in the same geographical area in which patients with tularemia were found. No F. tularensis DNA was detected in samples of small mammals or I. ricinus ticks. The diversity of MLVA types in Slovenia was high, despite the small region, but most of the samples from the same region shared the same MLVA type. Our results suggest that MLVA is a useful tool for quick molecular characterization of F. tularensis directly from patient samples, especially when investigating geographically localized outbreaks.
Physiologic studies have shown that atrium has an active role in venous blood return from lower extremity. In this context we investigated the association between AF and chronic venous disease (CVD).

In this observational study we included 392 AF patients which were divided into two groups (chronic AF, 218 (56%)) and non-chronic. AF, 174 (44%)). These two groups were compared in terms of CVD after matching conventional risk factors for CVD.

CEAP classification was different between chronic and non-chronic patients (C0-C2 72% vs 47%; C3-C6 28% vs 53% <0.001). Chronic AF patients had also higher rate of venous reflux on Doppler ultrasound (38% vs 16% P < 0.05). There was a correlation between AF duration, right atrial volume index and CEAP classification respectively (rho0.314 p < 0.001), (rho0.258, p < 0.001).

Prevalence of CVD is higher in patients with chronic AF. In addition, atrial volume is directly correlated with CVD.

Compared with a rigid-body robot, it is in general difficult to model and emulate the morphology dynamics of a soft continuum body. In addition, a soft continuum body potentially has an infinite degree of freedom, requiring considerable labor to manually annotate its dynamics from external sensory data such as video. In this study, we propose a novel noninvasive framework for automatically extracting the skeletal dynamics from video of a soft continuum body and show the applications and effectiveness of our framework. First, we demonstrate that our framework can extract skeletal dynamics from animal videos, which can be effectively utilized for the analysis of soft continuum body including animal motion. Next, we focus on a soft continuum arm, a commonly used platform in soft robotics, and evaluate the potential information-processing capability. Normally, to control such a high-dimensional system, it is necessary to introduce many sensors to completely capture the motion dynamics, causing the deterioration of the material's softness. We illustrate that the evaluation of the memory capacity and sensory reconstruction error enables us to verify the minimum number of sensors sufficient for fully grasping the state dynamics, which is highly useful in designing a sensor arrangement for a soft robot. Also, we release the software developed in this study as open source for biology and soft robotics communities, which contributes to automating the annotation process required for the motion analysis of soft continuum bodies.
