Genome structure and also development within the cruciferous tribe Thlaspideae (Brassicaceae).
Antiangiogenic strategies are promising tools for cancer treatment and several other disorders. In this sense, phospholipases A2 (PLA2s) from snake venom have been described to possess antiangiogenic properties. In this study, we evaluated both in vitro and ex vivo antiangiogenic effects induced by BnSP-7, a Lys49 PLA2 isolated from Bothrops pauloensis snake venom. BnSP-7 was able to inhibit endothelial cell (HUVEC) proliferation, which was indeed confirmed by a modulation of cell cycle progression. Interestingly, BnSP-7 also inhibited the adhesion and migration of HUVECs and blocked in vitro angiogenesis in a VEGF-dependent manner, an important proangiogenic factor. Finally, BnSP-7 was capable of inhibiting sprouting angiogenic process through an ex vivo aortic ring assay. Taken together, these results indicate that BnSP-7 has potent in vitro and ex vivo antiangiogenic effect.
This study was designed to evaluate the effect in pregnant women of a non-supervised aerobic exercise intervention on sleep quality and maternal-fetal attachment.

Pretest-posttest randomized controlled trial.

Prenatal clinic of a medical center in southern Taiwan.

One hundred and forty eligible, pregnant women were assigned systematically, at a random starting point, to either the experimental group (n = 70) or the control group (n = 70).

Participants in the experimental group received a 20-minute, low-impact aerobic exercise video on DVD and were instructed to exercise at home at least three times per week for a period of three months. Participants in the control group received routine prenatal care only.

The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and Modified Maternal-Fetal Attachment Scale were used to assess outcome measures before the intervention and at four and 12-weeks post-intervention.

The paired-sample t-tests revealed a significant improvement in sleep quality in the experimental group at 4-weeks posttest, which persisted through 12-weeks posttest. In addition, the experimental group reported a significantly higher mean score for maternal-fetal attachment at 4-weeks posttest than the control group.

The results of this study indicate that performing aerobic exercise ameliorates the decline in sleep quality and improves maternal-fetal attachment in women who are pregnant. These findings may be used to encourage pregnant women to regularly perform low-impact aerobic exercise.

Given that some countries have begun prescribing medical cannabis (MC) to certain categories of patients, a cross-sectional study was undertaken at the Belarusian State Medical University (BSMU) to determine the readiness of medical students to use cannabis in their future practice. 333 students responded to the questionnaire to find out their knowledge, attitudes and beliefs about MC. The data were analyzed using Pearson chi-squared test for categorical variables. Findings show most medical students prepared to recommend MC for patient treatment and believe it has benefits for physical or mental health purposes. The survey respondents believe MC can be effective for treatment -23.5 % for glaucoma to 76.9 % for chronic pain. Study results evidence that 83.1 % of the students receive no formal education about medical cannabis and 87.5 % believe professionals should have formal training about the substance. This work investigated the technical feasibility of preparing, stabilizing and isolating poorly water-soluble drug nanoparticles via a small-scale antisolvent precipitation process operating in semi-continuous mode. Specifically, a novel semi-continuous process was demonstrated for the carrier particle mediated production, stabilization and isolation of valsartan nanoparticles into a solid form using montmorillonite clay particles as the carrier. The semi-continuous process operated robustly for the full duration of the experiment (~16 min) and steady-state conditions were reached after ~5 min. Nanoparticles of valsartan (51 ± 1 nm) were successfully prepared, stabilized and isolated with the help of montmorillonite (MMT) or protamine functionalized montmorillonite (PA-MMT) into the dried form by this semi-continuous route. The dissolution profile of the isolated valsartan nanocomposite solids was similar to that of valsartan nanocomposite solids produced via the corresponding laboratory scale batch mode process, indicating that the product quality (principally the nanoscale particle size and solid-state form) is retained during the semi-continuous processing of the nanoparticles. Furthermore, tablets produced via direct compression of the isolated valsartan nanocomposite solids displayed a dissolution profile comparable with that of the powdered nanocomposite material. PXRD, DSC, SSNMR and dissolution studies indicate that the valsartan nanoparticles produced via this semi-continuous process were amorphous and exhibited shelf-life stability equivalent to > 10 months. The natural phenolic molecule caffeic acid, show promising effects on biological systems as an anti/pro-oxidant, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory agent. In nanoparticle functionalization designs, most organic nanoparticle coatings are utilized only for their ability to carry chemotherapeutics and targeting ligand. click here In this study, UV-light and auto-oxidation polymerization of caffeic acid on top of as-prepared gold nanoparticles was utilized to bring about a 5 nm multifunctional coating. The resulting polycaffeic acid (PCA) coating was used to conjugate both boronic acid containing compounds, chemotherapeutic bortezomib (BTZ) and cancer targeting ligand folate, while inducing mitochondrial reactive oxygen species that can damage intracellular proteins and DNA. This complements the drug payload, bortezomib's cell survival inhibition properties. The drug, targeting ligand, and coating complexation are all pH cleavable under acidic pH condition ( less then 5.0) which can be found in a tumor and endosomal microenvironment.
