Vasoactive molecules, such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and endothelins, share cytokine-like activities and regulate endothelial cell (EC) growth, migration and inflammation. Some endothelial mediators and their receptors are targets for currently approved angiogenesis inhibitors, drugs that are either monoclonal antibodies raised towards VEGF, or inhibitors of vascular receptor protein kinases and signaling pathways. Pharmacological interference with the protective functions of ECs results in a similar spectrum of adverse effects. Clinically, the most common side effects of VEGF signaling pathway inhibition include an increase in arterial pressure, left ventricular (LV) dysfunction ultimately causing heart failure, and thromboembolic events, including pulmonary embolism, stroke, and myocardial infarction. Sex steroids such as androgens, progestins, and estrogen and their receptors (ERα, ERβ, GPER; PR-A, PR-B; AR) have been identified as important modifiers of angiogenesis, and sex differences have been reported for anti-angiogenic drugs. This review article discusses the current challenges clinicians are facing with regard to angiogenesis inhibitor treatments, including the need to consider sex differences affecting clinical efficacy and safety. We also propose areas for future research taking into account the role of sex hormone receptors and sex chromosomes. Development of new sex-specific drugs with improved target and cell-type selectivity likely will open the way personalized medicine in men and women requiring antiangiogenic therapy and result in reduced adverse effects and improved therapeutic efficacy. It has been reported that orange peel extract (OPE) and the 4 major polymethoxyflavones (PMFs) in OPE have a protective effect against downhill running (DR)-induced skeletal muscle inflammation. However, the mechanism is not well understood. We investigated the potential of OPE and PMF compounds for increasing anti-inflammatory cytokine levels. The plasma interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA) level was increased 1 and 8 h after OPE administration in rats. Nobiletin induced the secretion of IL-1RA from C2C12 myotubes. In the inflammatory state of skeletal muscle after DR, OPE administration reduced nuclear factor kappa-light-chain enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) expression, NF-κB-DNA binding, and monocyte chemotactic protein-1 mRNA levels, but these effects were all abrogated by the intravenous administration of IL-1RA neutralizing antibody. These results indicated that OPE reduces skeletal muscle inflammatory state after DR via an increase in IL-1RA, and that IL-1 receptor signaling is important for skeletal muscle inflammation after DR.
This study was conducted to determine the level and feasibility of use of information and communication technology (ICT) and social media for research and service delivery among young female sex workers (YFSWs) in Kampala, Uganda.
We analysed baseline data from 234 YFSWs in Kampala ages 15-24y participating in a randomized controlled trial testing a cognitive behavioural human immunodeficiency virus prevention intervention.
Mobile phone ownership (68.3%) and short message service use (64.9%) were moderate and significantly lower in the 15- to 19-y age group. Computer use experience and internet access were low.
We believe that the feasibility of ICT and social media-driven interventions among YFSWs is limited.

Rhinoplasty in older adults requires unique consideration of the ageing nose. The purpose of this study was to systematically review the literature pertaining to rhinoplasty in this population, review the senior author's experience, and describe techniques aimed at addressing such features.
We hypothesized consistent age-related nasal dysmorphology is described in the literature and standard rhinoplasty techniques may effectively address these changes. Furthermore, we hypothesized rhinoplasty is more commonly performed for post traumatic and functional indications than for aesthetic reasons.
A literature review including publications describing rhinoplasty in patients over 55 years old was conducted. Additionally, a retrospective review of the senior author's cases was performed. Pre- and postoperative photographs were used to compare anthropometric changes. AMBMP HCL Demographic factors, surgical indications and operative details were collected.
Nine articles met study criteria. Manifestations of the ageing norated into treatment planning.
This study explored factors that underpin decisions to seek emergency department (ED) care for chronic non-cancer pain in patients identifying as culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) or Australian-born.
A mixed-methods study underpinned by The Behavioural Model of Health Services Use conceptual framework. Consenting consecutive patients attending the ED for a chronic pain condition were recruited to a CALD (n = 45) or Australian-born (n = 45) cohort. Statistical comparisons compared the demographic, pain, health literacy and episode of care profiles of both cohorts. Twenty-three CALD and 16 Australian-born participants consented to an audio-recorded semi-structured interview (n = 24) or focus group (n = 5) conducted in their preferred language. Interviews were translated and transcribed into English for analysis using applied thematic analysis, guided by the conceptual framework. Data were triangulated to investigate the patterns of ED utilisation and contributing factors for both cohorts.
ED atise features of higher vulnerability and consider streamlining access to available support services.
Malignant ovarian germ cell tumors (MOGCTs) are rare and heterogeneous ovary tumors. We aimed to identify potential germline mutations and somatic mutations in MOGCTs by whole-exome sequencing.
The peripheral blood and tumor samples from these patients were used to identify germline mutations and somatic mutations, respectively. For those genes corresponding to copy number alterations (CNA) deletion and duplication region, functional annotation of was performed. Immunohistochemistry was performed to evaluate the expression of mutated genes corresponding to CNA deletion region.
In peripheral blood, copy number loss and gain were mostly found in yolk sac tumors (YST). Moreover, POU5F1 was the most significant mutated gene with mutation frequency>10% in both CNA deletion and duplication region. In addition, strong cytoplasm staining of POU5F1 (corresponding to CNA deletion region) was found in 2 YST and nuclear staining in 2 dysgerminomas (DG) tumor samples. Genes corresponding to CNA deletion region were significantly enriched in the signaling pathway of regulating pluripotency of stem cells.
