Noteworthy, nephrotic proteinuria resolved spontaneously after recovering from COVID-19. The present case expands the spectrum of renal involvement in COVID-19 from acute tubular injury to podocytopathy in renal transplant recipients. Thus, it may be wise to test for SARS-CoV-2 prior to initiation of immunosuppression in new onset glomerulopathy during the pandemic.
Force enhancement is the phenomenon of increased forces during (transient force enhancement; tFE) and after (residual force enhancement; rFE) eccentric muscle actions compared with fixed-end contractions. Although tFE and rFE have been observed at short and long muscle lengths, whether both are length-dependent remains unclear in vivo.
We determined maximal-effort vastus lateralis (VL) force-angle relationships of eleven healthy males and selected one knee joint angle at a short and long muscle lengths where VL produced approximately the same force (85% of maximum). We then examined tFE and rFE at these two lengths during and following the same amount of knee joint rotation.
We found tFE at both short (11.7%, P = 0.017) and long (15.2%, P = 0.001) muscle lengths. rFE was only observed at the long (10.6%, P < 0.001; short 1.3%, P = 0.439) muscle length. Ultrasound imaging revealed that VL muscle fascicle stretch magnitude was greater at long compared with short muscle lengths (mean difference (tFE) 1.7mm, (rFE) 1.9mm, P ≤ 0.046), despite similar isometric VL forces across lengths (P ≥ 0.923). Greater fascicle stretch magnitude was likely to be due to greater preload forces at the long compared with short muscle length (P ≤ 0.001).
At a similar isometric VL force capacity, tFE was not muscle-length-dependent at the lengths we tested, whereas rFE was greater at longer muscle length. We speculate that the in vivo mechanical factors affecting tFE and rFE are different and that greater stretch of a passive component is likely contributing more to rFE at longer muscle lengths.

Spirulina has previously been reported to improve high-intensity exercise performance and hemoglobin. However, spirulina's effect on arm cycling exercise has yet to be investigated. The purpose of this study was to investigate the responses of spirulina supplementation on hemoglobin and on oxygen uptake, RER and HR during seated arm cycling exercise.
In a double-blinded randomized crossover design, eleven males untrained in arm cycling ingested 6g/day of spirulina or placebo for seven days. Seated on the Arm Crank Ergometer, each participant performed a baseline V̇O
test, and then after supplementation, 2 × 30-min submaximal exercise bouts corresponding to 55% of their V̇O
, followed by an incremental test to fatigue. A seven-day wash-out period was required between conditions. Oxygen uptake, RER and HR were measured continuously during exercise and hemoglobin measured prior to exercise after both conditions.
Spirulina significantly (p < 0.05) increased Hb in comparison to Placebo (144.1g/l ± 10.5 Vs 154.5g/l ± 6.9). After spirulina supplementation, during the 30-min exercise bouts, oxygen uptake and HR were significantly lower (2170ml/min ± 173 Vs 2311ml/min ± 189 and 154bpm ± 14 Vs 149bpm ± 17), RER was not significantly different. In comparison to placebo, Spirulina significantly increased oxygen uptake at time of fatigue (34.10ml/min/kg ± 6.03 Vs 37.37ml/min/kg ± 5.98). Time taken to fatigue was not different.

The present study was undertaken to estimate chromium levels in the brain, antioxidant enzyme activity with their gene expression, and learning and memory parameters on F1 and F2 generation mice when the F0 was exposed to chromium. The chromium levels in the brain were estimated using atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The enzyme activity of glutathione-s-transferase (GST) and catalase (CAT) was estimated and their gene expression was evaluated using RT-PCR. The spatial memory was tested using Morris water maze. The learning and recall memory was tested using the step down latency paradigm. The chromium levels were significantly raised in animals treated with Cr per se in F1 generation and quercetin cotreatment reduced the Cr levels in brain significantly. The enzyme activity of GST was significantly less in Cr-treated animals of both generations and this effect was significantly reversed on cotreatment with quercetin. The gene expression of GST matched the enzyme activity. However, catalase activity did not show significant decrease with Cr but cotreatment with quercetin resulted in significant decrease compared with control and this effect was not matched by its gene expression. We observed no significant change in learning and memory parameters in both generations following Cr exposure.
