Protected natural areas (PNAs) can be a source of health and well-being, but little research has been carried out regarding outcomes in terms of satisfaction (the difference between motivations and benefits). Inspired by previous research that examines the motivations and benefits perceived by visitors to various PNAs in Canada, and based on importance-performance analysis (IPA) and service quality gap (GAP) analysis theory, the aim of this study was to identify the outcomes generated by protected areas in terms of satisfaction, especially with regard to the PNAs' individual protection categories. The study was based on survey data from visitors (n = 360) to three PNAs in Catalonia one national park, one natural park and one periurban park. The results indicate that anticipated environmental, psychological, physical and social benefits were of major personal value in choosing to visit a PNA. The results indicate that, generally, visitors were satisfied with regard to the benefits anticipated. Differences between parks in this respect could be explained in part by sociodemographic factors and visitors' behavior. The results are discussed in terms of their applicability and how they relate to the role of PNAs in the promotion of visitors' health and well-being.The ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) has been recognized for regulating fundamental cellular processes, followed by induction of proteasomal degradation of target proteins, and triggers multiple signaling pathways that are crucial for numerous aspects of cellular physiology. Especially tripartite motif (TRIM) proteins, well-known E3 ubiquitin ligases, emerge as having critical roles in several antiviral signaling pathways against varying viral infections. Here we highlight recent advances in the study of antiviral roles of TRIM proteins toward influenza virus infection in terms of the modulation of pathogen recognition receptor (PRR)-mediated innate immune sensing, direct obstruction of influenza viral propagation, and participation in virus-induced autophagy.BOLD-100, a ruthenium-based complex, sodium trans-[tetrachloridobis (1H-indazole) ruthenate (III)] (also known as IT-139, NKP1339 or KP1339), is a novel small molecule drug that demonstrated a manageable safety profile at the maximum tolerated dose and modest antitumor activity in a phase I clinical trial. BOLD-100 has been reported to inhibit the upregulation of the endoplasmic reticulum stress sensing protein GRP78. However, response to BOLD-100 varies in different cancer models and the precise mechanism of action in high-response versus low-response cancer cells remains unclear. In vitro studies have indicated that BOLD-100 induces cytostatic rather than cytotoxic effects as a monotherapy. To understand BOLD-100-mediated signaling mechanism in breast cancer cells, we used estrogen receptor positive (ER+) MCF7 breast cancer cells to obtain gene-metabolite integrated models. At 100 μM, BOLD-100 significantly reduced cell proliferation and expression of genes involved in the DNA repair pathway. BOLD-100 also induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) and phosphorylation of histone H2AX, gamma-H2AX (Ser139), suggesting disruption of proper DNA surveillance. In estrogen receptor negative (ER-) breast cancer cells, combination of BOLD-100 with a PARP inhibitor, olaparib, induced significant inhibition of cell growth and xenografts and increased gamma-H2AX. Thus, BOLD-100 is a novel DNA repair pathway targeting agent and can be used with other chemotherapies in ER- breast cancer. The aim of this study was to verify the structural relationship between health perceptions, sports participation, and health promoting behavior in adolescents. A total of 507 adolescents living in Seoul, Republic of Korea, in 2020, participated in this study. This study was conducted using a preliminary survey and a main survey. In the preliminary survey, the reliability and validity of the scales used in this study were analyzed, and in the main survey, the relationships between individual variables were verified. Specifically, descriptive statistical analysis, path analysis, and mediating effect analysis were conducted in the main survey. The results of the study are as follows first, health perceptions were found to have a positive effect on sports participation (p less then 0.001). Furthermore, health perceptions were found to have no direct effect on health promoting behavior (p = 0.554), while sports participation was found to have a positive effect on health promoting behavior (p less then 0.001). Additionally, sports participation completely mediated the relationship between health perceptions and health promoting behavior. Based on the results of this study, suggestions are presented on how to enhance health perceptions in adolescents who are in a critical period for forming healthy life habits, and to prepare measures to encourage sports participation. In hyperthermia, the general opinion is that pre-treatment optimization of treatment settings requires a patient-specific model. For deep pelvic hyperthermia treatment planning (HTP), tissue models comprising four tissue categories are currently discriminated. For head and neck HTP, we found that more tissues are required for increasing accuracy. In this work, we evaluated the impact of the number of segmented tissues on the predicted specific absorption rate (SAR) for the pelvic region. Highly detailed anatomical models of five healthy volunteers were selected from a virtual database. For each model, seven lists with varying levels of segmentation detail were defined and used as an input for a modeling study. SAR changes were quantified using the change in target-to-hotspot-quotient and maximum SAR relative differences, with respect to the most detailed patient model. Olitigaltin inhibitor The main finding of this study was that the inclusion of high water content tissues in the segmentation may result in a clinically relevant impact on the SAR distribution and on the predicted hyperthermia treatment quality when considering our pre-established thresholds. In general, our results underline the current clinical segmentation protocol and help to prioritize any improvements.
