The Joint Mobile Emerging Disease Intervention Clinical Capability was established in 2015 to develop a high-quality clinical trial capability in Uganda to support rigorous evaluation of MCMs targeting high-consequence pathogens like Ebola virus. This capability assembles clinicians, laboratorians, clinical researchers, logisticians, and regulatory professionals trained in infection prevention and control and in good clinical and good clinical laboratory practices. The resulting team is prepared to provide high-quality medical care and clinical research during high-consequence outbreaks.The global biotechnology revolution offers a profusion of promising innovations for the US Department of Defense (DoD). As with other emerging technologies, the commercial market, rather than defense, is driving the evolution of biotechnology products, and the ability to harness biotechnology for defense benefits has been hampered by strategic confusion in DoD. Here we describe a set of high-level challenges and a set of potential solutions that could bring innovative biotechnology closer to reality for the warfighter and DoD writ large.We conducted a comprehensive, multi-phase laboratory evaluation of the Tularemia BioThreat Alert® (BTA) test, a lateral flow assay (LFA) for the rapid detection of Francisella tularensis. The study, conducted at 2 sites, evaluated the limit of detection (LOD) of this assay using the virulent SchuS4 strain and the avirulent LVS strain of F. tularensis. In 6-phase evaluation (linear dynamic range and reproducibility, inclusivity, near-neighbor, environmental background, white powder, and environmental filter extract), 13 diverse strains of F. tularensis, 8 Francisella near neighbors, 61 environmental background organisms, 26 white powders, and a pooled aerosol extract were tested. In the 937 tests performed, the Tularemia BTA demonstrated an LOD of 107 to 108 cfu/mL, with a sensitivity of 100.00%, specificity of 98.08%, and accuracy of 98.84%. These performance data are important for accurate interpretation of qualitative results arising from screening suspicious white powders in the field.A history of childhood sexual victimization (CSV) is one of the most commonly examined factors in research on male adolescent sexual offending. Although CSV has been extensively researched in relation to the onset and maintenance of adolescent sexual offending, few studies have investigated the association of CSV with domains of adolescent sexuality outside of sexual offending. Understanding how CSV may be associated with the non-paraphilic, and paraphilic, sexual behaviors of adolescent males who commit sexual offenses has important implications for promoting healthy sexuality among this population. In a sample of 162 male adolescents (M age = 15.2 years, SD = 1.3) adjudicated for a sexual offense, we tested the association of CSV with a range of non-paraphilic (e.g., age of first consensual sex) and paraphilic (e.g., use of paraphilic pornography) sexual behavior variables. The results indicated CSV was associated with greater engagement in risky non-paraphilic sexual behaviors, as well as paraphilic sexual behaviors. CSV was also associated with specific offense characteristics, replicating previous research findings. The current study is a first step toward understanding the broader sexual context of adolescents who commit sexual offenses.Time series of individual subjects have become a common data type in psychological research. These data allow one to estimate models of within-subject dynamics, and thereby avoid the notorious problem of making within-subjects inferences from between-subjects data, and naturally address heterogeneity between subjects. A popular model for these data is the Vector Autoregressive (VAR) model, in which each variable is predicted by a linear function of all variables at previous time points. A key assumption of this model is that its parameters are constant (or stationary) across time. However, in many areas of psychological research time-varying parameters are plausible or even the subject of study. In this tutorial paper, we introduce methods to estimate time-varying VAR models based on splines and kernel-smoothing with/without regularization. We use simulations to evaluate the relative performance of all methods in scenarios typical in applied research, and discuss their strengths and weaknesses. Finally, we provide a step-by-step tutorial showing how to apply the discussed methods to an openly available time series of mood-related measurements.Objective To assess the efficacy and safety of ertugliflozin in Hispanic/Latino patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM).Methods Analysis of data from Hispanic/Latino patients who participated in randomized, double-blind phase III studies. Ertugliflozin efficacy was evaluated when initiated as a single agent (as monotherapy or add-on therapy) and when initiated in combination with sitagliptin. Least-squares mean change from baseline was calculated for glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), body weight (BW), and systolic blood pressure (SBP). Safety evaluation included overall and prespecified adverse events (AEs). The Clinicaltrials.gov identifiers are NCT01986855, NCT01999218, NCT01958671, NCT02099110, NCT02036515, NCT02033889, and NCT02226003.Results Analyses included 1178 Hispanic/Latino patients. Epigenetic inhibitors In a pooled analysis of three placebo-controlled studies where ertugliflozin was initiated as a single agent, the placebo-corrected change from baseline in HbA1c at Week 26 for ertugliflozin 5 mg and 15 mg was -0.8% and -1.0%.e agent or as combination with sitagliptin, improved HbA1c, BW, and SBP. Ertugliflozin was generally well-tolerated in Hispanic/Latino patients with T2DM.Objective The purpose of the study was to identify profiles and predictors of academic and social functioning in a sample of school-age children with autism spectrum disorder.Method The study included 178 children (88% boys, 75% Caucasian, ages 10-11) who completed a standardized measure of academic skills and whose teachers completed a related measure. Measures of both academic and social performance were used to construct profiles of school functioning. Measures of language, nonverbal IQ, autism symptom severity, behavior difficulties, and early social-communication skills between ages 3 and 4 were used to examine predictors of profile membership. Latent Profile Analysis was used to identify and describe profiles of children's academic and social school functioning. Profile membership was then regressed on each of the predictors using a series of multinomial logistic regression models. Finally, a multivariate model that included all significant predictors was built to examine the best fitting constellation of profile predictors.
