•Composition of seven saccharides in Aphis asclepiadis honeydew including xylose, fructose, glucose, sucrose, trehalose, melezitose, and raffinose, and five standard amino acids including glutamic acid, glutamine, aspartic acid, serine, and asparagine, were analyzed using hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.•All polar analytes were analyzed without derivatization using HILIC-MS with chromatographic run times of 7 min (sugars) and 10 min (amino acids). In 2018 we published a spatially-explicit individual-based model (IBM) that uses satellite-derived maps of food availability and temperature to predict Northeast Atlantic mackerel (Scomber scombrus, NEAM) population dynamics. Since then, to address various ecological questions, we have extended the IBM to include additional processes and data. Throughout its development, technical documents have been provided in the form of e.g. supplementary information to published articles. However, we acknowledge that it would be difficult for potential users to collate information from separate supplementary documents and gain a full understanding of the current state of the IBM. Here, we provide a full technical specification of the latest version of our IBM. The technical specification is provided in the standard ODD (Overview, Design concepts and Details) format, and supplemented by a TRACE (TRAnsparent and Comprehensive model Evaludation) document. For the first time, we give our model the acronym SEASIM-NEAM a Spatially-Explicit Agent-based SIMulator of North East Atlantic Mackerel population dynamics. This article supersedes previous documentation. Going forward we hope that this article will stimulate development of similar models.•This article collates improvements that have been made to SEASIM-NEAM over time. The Symbiotic Organisms Search Algorithm (SOS) is used as an algorithm based on the social behavior of Symbiotic Organisms in optimization of Non-linear 5 model parameters for flood routing. The data used in this article is 4 day observations from 30 November 2008 to 3 December 2008, which is located between the Molasani, and Ahwaz station on the Karun River. The time series data used included river inflow, storage volume, and river outflow. The results of the developed model with the Symbiotic Organisms Search Algorithm (SOS) were compared with the other Evolutionary algorithms including Genetic Algorithm (GA, and Harmony Search Algorithm (HS). The analysis showed that the best solutions achieved from the objective function by the SOS, GA, and HS algorithms were 143052.02, 143252.35, and 142952.45, respectively. The processes of these datasets determined that the SOS algorithm was premiere to GA, and HS algorithms on the optimal flood routing river problem.•In this article applied the Symbiotic Organisms Search Algorithm for Estimation of nonlinear parameters of the Muskingum hydrologic model of the Karun River located in Iran.•This method can be useful for managers of water, and wastewater companies, water resource facilities for predicting the flood process downstream of the rivers.•The present algorithm performs better than the other algorithms in the discussion of the optimization of Nonlinear 5 parameters of Muskingum model in flood routing. The miniRUEDI is a portable mass spectrometer system designed for on-site analysis of gases in the environment during field work and at remote locations. For many gas species (e.g., He, Ar, Kr, N2, O2, CO2) the ion-current peak-heights measured with the mass spectrometer can usually be calibrated in terms of the partial pressures by simple peak-height comparison relative to a gas standard with well known partial pressures. Screening Library However, depending on the composition of the analysed gases, the ion currents measured at certain m/z ratios may result from overlapping signals of multiple species (for example CH4, O2 and N2 at m / z = 15 and 16; or Ne, Ar and H2O at m / z = 20 ). Here, we present a method extension to the existing miniRUEDI peak-height comparison in order to resolve such overlap interferences • We developed and tested a data processing procedure for accurate deconvolution and compensation of such mass-spectrometric overlap interferences. • The method was incorporated into the miniRUEDI open-source software (ruediPy). • The method substantially improves the analytical accuracy in situations where mass-spectrometric interferences cannot be avoided.
In many developing countries, rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is diagnosed at an advanced stage and requires surgery for patient survival. However, access to cardiac surgery in this context is limited and often provided through partnerships, requiring centralized patient data systems for monitoring and follow-up.
This study used data from a national postoperative RHD registry to analyze clinical outcomes of Rwandan patients who received surgery between 2006 and 2017.
The RHD registry was created in 2017 using data compiled from Rwanda Ministry of Health and RHD surgery partners. We extracted pre- and post-operative data on patients who were alive and in care. We excluded patients who died or were lost to follow-up, as their data was not collected in the registry. We evaluated the association between demographic, surgical, and follow-up characteristics and most recent patient symptoms, categorized by New York Heart Association (NYHA) class.
Among the 191 patients eligible for inclusion in this study, 107HD registry 11 years after the national initiation of RHD surgeries. Most patients captured in the registry are asymptomatic; however, collecting details on patients who had died or were lost to follow-up has proven difficult. Implementing strategies to maintain a complete and up-to-date registry will facilitate follow-up for pre- and postoperative patients.
Pyoderma gangrenosum and myelodysplastic syndrome in pregnant women are both very rare, but can coexist. Here, we present a case of pyoderma gangrenosum in a cesarean section wound in a woman with myelodysplastic syndrome.
A 34-year-old woman presented with thrombocytopenia and macrocytic anemia during pregnancy. The pregnancy was uneventful until 36weeks of gestation, when premature rupture of membranes occurred and a cesarean section was performed for breech presentation. She presented four days later with redness and blisters at the wound site. Surgical site infection was diagnosed but did not improve with antibiotics, and multiple wound cultures were negative. Skin biopsy indicated pyoderma gangrenosum, and the redness and blisters responded to oral prednisolone. Post-partum bone marrow aspiration showed myelodysplastic syndrome. As the patient demonstrated no symptoms such as abnormal bleeding, no additional treatment was started, and she went on to receive regular follow-up for myelodysplastic disorder.
