To investigate the fear of hypoglycaemia in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), to identify factors related to this fear, and thus to provide evidence for clinical assessment. A total of 385 patients with T2DM who were admitted to the departments of endocrinology in five tertiary grade-A hospitals in Chongqing, China were included in this study. A questionnaire for general information and a Chinese version of Hypoglycemia Fear Survey (HFS) were used to collect the data. The average total score on the HFS was 71.67 ± 17.06 (HFS-W was 38.15 ± 10.57; HFS-B was 33.52 ± 9.54).The three items with the highest average score for HFS-W were not recognising low blood glucose (BG), not having food available, experiencing a hypoglycaemic episode alone, and for HFS-B were eating large amount of snacks, measuring BG six or more times per day, and keeping BG > 150 mmol/L. Regressions showed that number of hospitalisations for T2DM, receiving health education on diabetes, age and hypoglycaemia history because of T2DM were associated with fear of hypoglycaemia (all p less then 0.05). Fear of hypoglycaemia in hospitalised patients with T2DM was strongly associated with diabetes health education, hospitalisation for diabetes, age, and hypoglycaemia history. Medical professionals should attach importance to the specific psychological interventions, health education on diabetes and the early prevention of hypoglycaemia or diabetic complications for patients with T2DM to reduce the fear of hypoglycaemia and improve their health status.Filial imprinting has become a model for understanding memory, learning and social behaviour in neonate animals. This mechanism allows the youngs of precocial bird species to learn the characteristics of conspicuous visual stimuli and display affiliative response to them. Although longer exposures to an object produce stronger preferences for it afterwards, this relation is not linear. Sometimes, chicks even prefer to approach novel rather than familiar objects. To date, little is known about how filial preferences develop across time. This study aimed to investigate filial preferences for familiar and novel imprinting objects over time. After hatching, chicks were individually placed in an arena where stimuli were displayed on two opposite screens. Using an automated setup, the duration of exposure and the type of stimuli were manipulated while the time spent at the imprinting stimulus was monitored across 6 days. We showed that prolonged exposure (3 days vs 1 day) to a stimulus produced robust filial imprinting preferences. Interestingly, with a shorter exposure (1 day), animals re-evaluated their filial preferences in functions of their spontaneous preferences and past experiences. Our study suggests that predispositions influence learning when the imprinting memories are not fully consolidated, driving animal preferences toward more predisposed stimuli.The possibility to predict, characterize and minimize the presence of spurious harmonic content in the longitudinal profile of high brightness electron beams, namely the microbunching instability, has become vital to ensure accurate modeling and reliable operation of radiofrequency and plasma-based linear accelerators such as those driving free-electron lasers. Recently, the impact of intrabeam scattering (IBS) on the instability has been experimentally demonstrated by the authors. This work complements that experimental study by extending existing theories in a self-consistent, piece-wise calculation of IBS in single pass linacs and multi-bend transfer lines. New expressions for the IBS are introduced in two different semi-analytical models of microbunching. The accuracy of the proposed models and the range of beam parameters to which they apply is discussed. The overall modeling turns out to be a fast comprehensive tool for the optimization of linac-driven free-electron lasers.Global warming and anthropogenic changes can result in the heterogeneity of water availability in the spatiotemporal scale, which will further affect the allocation of water resources. A lot of researches have been devoted to examining the responses of water availability to global warming while neglected future anthropogenic changes. What's more, only a few studies have investigated the response of optimal allocation of water resources to the projected climate and anthropogenic changes. In this study, a cascade model chain is developed to evaluate the impacts of projected climate change and human activities on optimal allocation of water resources. Firstly, a large set of global climate models (GCMs) associated with the Daily Bias Correction (DBC) method are employed to project future climate scenarios, while the Cellular Automaton-Markov (CA-Markov) model is used to project future Land Use/Cover Change (LUCC) scenarios. Then the runoff simulation is based on the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) hydrological model with necessary inputs under the future conditions. Finally, the optimal water resources allocation model is established based on the evaluation of water supply and water demand. The Han River basin in China was selected as a case study. The results show that (1) the annual runoff indicates an increasing trend in the future in contrast with the base period, while the ascending rate of the basin under RCP 4.5 is 4.47%; (2) a nonlinear relationship has been identified between the optimal allocation of water resources and water availability, while a linear association exists between the former and water demand; (3) increased water supply are needed in the water donor area, the middle and lower reaches should be supplemented with 4.495 billion m3 water in 2030. This study provides an example of a management template for guiding the allocation of water resources, and improves understandings of the assessments of water availability and demand at a regional or national scale.Magnetic micro/nanorobots attracted much attention in biomedical fields because of their precise movement, manipulation, and targeting abilities. However, there is a lack of research on intelligent micro/nanorobots with stimuli-responsive drug delivery mechanisms for cancer therapy. To address this issue, we developed a type of strong covalently bound tri-bead drug delivery microrobots with NIR photothermal response azobenzene molecules attached to their carboxylic surface groups. The tri-bead microrobots are magnetic and showed good cytocompatibility even when their concentration is up to 200 µg/mL. In vitro photothermal experiments demonstrated fast NIR-responsive photothermal property; the microrobots were heated to 50 °C in 4 min, which triggered a significant increase in drug release. read more Motion control of the microrobots inside a microchannel demonstrated the feasibility of targeted therapy on tumor cells. Finally, experiments with lung cancer cells demonstrated the effectiveness of targeted chemo-photothermal therapy and were validated by cell viability assays.
