However, if jarosite and goethite are present in the sulfur stream environment, they interfere with the py-GC-MS detection of organic compounds in these samples. Clay reduces the obfuscating effect of the oxidizing minerals by providing nondeleterious adsorption sites. We also find that after a simple alkali and acid leaching process that removes oxidizing minerals such as iron sulfates, oxides, and oxyhydroxides, the sulfur stream samples exhibit much greater organic responses during py-GC-MS in terms of both abundance and diversity of organic compounds, such as the detection of hopanes in all leached samples. Our results suggest that insoluble organic matter can be preserved over billions of years of geological storage while still retaining diagnostic organic information, but sample selection strategies must either avoid jarosite- and goethite-rich outcrops or conduct preparative chemistry steps to remove these oxidants prior to analysis by thermal extraction techniques. Objective The association between assisted conception and breastfeeding outcomes has been investigated, but the women's experiences have not been fully explored. This study aimed to describe and understand the breastfeeding experience of first-time mothers who conceived using assisted reproductive treatment. Methods A qualitative study based on Gadamer's hermeneutic phenomenology was conducted with a sample of 27 women who conceived using assisted reproductive treatment during the last 10 years. Focus group and in-depth interviews were conducted using a semistructured interview guide. The interviews' transcriptions were coded and categorized into themes and subthemes. Results Two main themes emerged from the data analysis (1) "the transition from infertility to motherhood," with the subthemes "infertility and decision to breastfeed," "the impact of birth experience on breastfeeding," and "hospital factors influencing breastfeeding practice"; and (2) "the reality of becoming a breastfeeding mother after assisted reproductive technology," with the subthemes "I want to breastfeed my infant," "the need for supports from others," and "when breastfeeding lasts longer than expected." Conclusion Women who conceive by using assisted reproductive treatment experience a strong desire to breastfeed and problems such as low milk supply. Early cessation of breastfeeding provokes feelings of guilt and failure as mothers. Positive family networks and professional assistance are necessary to support breastfeeding. Background Glycemic control is particularly challenging for toddlers and preschoolers with type 1 diabetes (T1D), and data on the use of closed-loop systems in this age range are limited. Materials and Methods We studied use of a modified investigational version of the Tandem tslim X2 Control-IQ system in children aged 2 to 5 years during 48 h in an outpatient supervised hotel (SH) setting followed by 3 days of home use to examine the safety of this system in young children. Meals and snacks were not restricted and boluses were estimated per parents' usual routine. At least 30 min of daily exercise was required during the SH phase. JAK inhibitor review All participants were remotely monitored by study staff while on closed-loop in addition to monitoring by at least one parent throughout the study. Results Twelve participants diagnosed with T1D for at least 3 months with mean age 4.7 ± 1.0 years (range 2.0-5.8 years) and hemoglobin A1c of 7.3% ± 0.8% were enrolled at three sites. With use of Control-IQ, the percentage of participants meeting our prespecified goals of less than 6% time below 70 mg/dL and less than 40% time above 180 mg/dL increased from 33% to 83%. Control-IQ use significantly improved percent time in range (70-180 mg/dL) compared to baseline (71.3 ± 12.5 vs. 63.7 ± 15.1, P = 0.016). All participants completed the study with no adverse events. Conclusions In this brief pilot study, use of the modified Control-IQ system was safe in 2-5-year-old children with T1D and improved glycemic control.
Rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have generated uncertainty about the future of radiology among medical students. However, it is unclear whether this has affected radiology residency applications. The purpose of this study was to evaluate recent trends in the Canadian radiology residency match.
Canadian Resident Matching Service annual data reports from 2010-2020 were collected. Statistics were extracted for Canadian medical graduates applying to radiology in the R-1 main residency match and analyzed using linear regression.
The number of available radiology residency positions decreased (
= .01); declining from 84 in 2010 to 81 in 2020 (mean = 83.1). The overall number of applicants did not change (
= .08, mean = 131.8). The proportion of applicants with radiology as their first choice decreased (
= .001); declining from 4.5% in 2010 to 3.1% in 2020 (mean = 3.4%). The number of applicants applying exclusively to radiology also decreased (
= .02); declining from 39 in 2010 to 16 in 2020 (mean = 23). Positions per applicant (
= 0.24, mean = 0.64), and positions per applicant with radiology as their first choice did not change (
= 0.07, mean = 0.91).
While the overall number of students applying to radiology did not change, the number of applicants ranking radiology as their first or only choice decreased sharply. This analysis corroborates recent reports of increased workload, burnout, and declining reimbursement as well as uncertainty about the future of radiology due to advances in AI.

Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is a well-known cause of hip pain in adolescents and young adults. However, the incidence in the general population has not been clearly defined.
To (1) define the population-based incidence of diagnosis of FAI in patients with hip pain, (2) report the trends in diagnosis of FAI over time, and (3) determine the changes in the rate and type of surgical management over time.
Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3.
A geographic database was used to identify patients who were 14 to 50 years old with hip pain between the years 2000 and 2016. Chart and radiographic review was performed to determine which patients had FAI. To be included, patients had to have a triad of clinical symptoms, physical examination signs, and imaging findings consistent with FAI. Medical records were reviewed to obtain demographic information, clinical history, physical examination findings, imaging details, and treatment details. Statistical analysis determined the overall age- and sex-adjusted annual incidence of FAI diagnosis and trends over time.
