Perceived message effectiveness (PE) has been widely used in campaign formative research and evaluation. learn more The relationship between PE and actual message effectiveness (AE) is often assumed to be causal and unidirectional, but careful conceptualization and empirical testing of this and other causal possibilities are generally lacking. In this study, we investigated the potential reciprocity in the relationship between PE and AE in the context of a national youth tobacco education campaign. In so doing, we also sought to generate much needed evidence on PE's utility to predict campaign-targeted outcomes in youth tobacco prevention. Using five waves of campaign evaluation data (N = 1,128), we found significant lagged associations between PE and campaign-targeted beliefs, and vice versa. These results suggest a dynamic, mutually influencing relationship between PE and AE and call for greater attention to such dynamics in campaign research.Objectives Longer delays in carrying out complementary tests in cardiology services have resulted in patients arriving for consultation without these tests being performed (inefficient consultations). To ameliorate this situation, a management-based intervention was designed, optimizing the available resources and modifying the appointment system. Therefore, our objective was to determine the effectiveness of this intervention to reduce the number of inefficient consultations and improve the clinical care process.Methods A non-randomized experimental study comparing two periods (pre- and post-intervention) was designed, analyzing a total of 473 outpatients attending cardiology consultations in a Spanish region in February 2014 (pre-intervention) and 441 patients attending cardiology consultations in November 2014 (post-intervention). The outcome of management measures aimed at optimizing coordination in outpatient care to reduce inefficient consultations was analyzed. After the visit, treatment modifications, requests for new examinations or tests, outpatient discharges, and new diagnoses were evaluated.Results In the pre-intervention period, 37.2% of the patients had not had the tests performed, while in the post-intervention period, this figure dropped to 10.7% (p less then 0.001). When the patients had all the tests completed, there was an increase in the number of new examinations (p less then 0.001), outpatient discharges (p less then 0.001) and new diagnoses (p = 0.004). Treatment modifications were not significant (p = 0.223).Conclusions The intervention proved effective, clinically relevant, and statistically significant in reducing the proportion of inefficient consultations, thereby enabling continuation of the clinical care process.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) using the triaxial system with N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (NBCA) for acute arterial bleeding in comparison to TAE using the triaxial system with gelatin sponges (GS) and/or coils.
Between October 2013 and November 2018, 95 patients with acute arterial bleeding underwent emergency TAE using the triaxial system. Six patients underwent multiple TAEs and thus, 104 TAEs using the triaxial system were performed. In 26 of the 104 cases, TAE were performed with NBCA (NBCA group), and in the remaining 78 cases, TAE were performed with GS and/or coils (control group).
Hemorrhagic shock and coagulopathy more often occurred in the NBCA group. Procedure time was shorter in the NBCA group. The technical success rate was 100% in both groups (
> 0.99). The clinical success rate in the NBCA and control groups was 92% and 96%, respectively (
= 0.6). There was one minor complication (4%, 1/26) of liver dysfunction in a patient of the NBCA group, but no complication in the control group (
= 0.26).
TAE using the triaxial system with NBCA may be useful for acute arterial bleeding, especially in patients with hemorrhagic shock and coagulopathy.

The gut epithelium has been extensively studied for its importance in the structure and function of gut barrier. Recently, a new concept of barrier, named gut vascular barrier (GVB) has been discovered in both mice and human. Subsequent studies identified the morphological characteristics of GVB, the involved signaling events and its association with clinical diseases. In current study, we will summarize recent breakthroughs of GVB, with particular attentions to the molecular basis of GVB dysfunction. We will perform bioinformatics analysis to compare the transcriptional profiles of endothelium between blood and lymphatic vessels, healthy and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), healthy and colorectal cancer in the absence or presence of liver metastasis. We will further discuss the significance of impaired GVB in associated diseases, including vascular diseases, IBD and cancer metastasis. Our study will provide insights into the new concept of gut barrier, and promote the development of new strategies toward the vascular endothelium in the management of various diseases.
To evaluate patient engagement and usage of a prescription digital therapeutic (PDT) and associated outcomes of opioid use and treatment retention in a large real-world dataset of patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) treated with buprenorphine medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD). PDTs are software-based disease treatments evaluated for safety and effectiveness in randomized clinical trials (RCTs), and authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat disease with approved directions for use (label).
A real-world observational evaluation of an all-comer population of patients who redeemed a 12-week prescription for the reSET-O PDT. Engagement and therapeutic use data were collected and analysed on a population level. Substance use was evaluated as a composite of self-reports recorded with reSET-O and urine drug screens (UDS).
Data from 3144 individuals with OUD were evaluated. 45.5% were between ages 30 and 39 years. 80% completed at least 8 of the 67 possible therapeutic modules, 66% completed half of all modules, and 49% completed all modules.
