In order to demonstrate the effect of thermal processes on the quality of fresh chickpea, the objective of the present work was to evaluate some nutrimental and functional characteristics of raw, steamed and toasted chickpea. The partial chemical composition, total phenols, oligosaccharides, and antioxidant capacities were measured in five genotypes of chickpea. selleck products Steamed and toasted chickpea showed up to 8.4 and 25.8% less protein, respectively, than that of raw samples. Oligosaccharides, in general decreased in steamed and toasted fresh grain; however, verbascose increased on average 30.6 and 37.9% in steamed and toasted samples, respectively. Minor changes in total phenolic content were observed a result of the process. Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity increased up to 3.5 times compared to that of antioxidant capacity of raw samples. Fresh chickpea grain, raw or processed, shows attractive nutritional and antioxidant properties that can contribute to the diet and health of the person who consumes it.Adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) isolated from domestic animals fulfill the qualitative criteria of mesenchymal stem cells, including the capacity to differentiate along multiple lineage pathways and to self-renew, as well as immunomodulatory capacities. Recent findings on human diseases derived from studying large animal models, have provided evidence that administration of autologous or allogenic ASCs can improve the process of healing. In a narrow group of large animals used in bioresearch studies, pigs and horses have been shown to be the best suited models for study of the wound healing process, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal disorders. To this end, current literature demonstrates that ASC-based therapies bring considerable benefits to animal health in both spontaneously occurring and experimentally induced clinical cases. The purpose of this review is to provide an overview of the diversity, isolation, and characterization of ASCs from livestock. Particular attention has been paid to the functional characteristics of the cells that facilitate their therapeutic application in large animal models of human disease. In this regard, we describe outcomes of ASCs utilization in translational research with pig and horse models of disease. Furthermore, we evaluate the current status of ASC-based therapy in veterinary practice, particularly in the rapidly developing field of equine regenerative medicine. In conclusion, this review presents arguments that support the relevance of animal ASCs in the field of regenerative medicine and it provides insights into the future perspectives of ASC utilization in animal husbandry. To reduce HIV incidence in countries such as Eswatini (Swaziland), UNAIDS has recommended male circumcision as one possible effective strategy. We analyzed the 2016s Swaziland HIV Incidence Measurement Survey to explore the association between early circumcision and HIV history among 2964 sexually active adult males aged 15 to 64 years old. Early circumcision was defined as circumcision practiced at an age of 15 years old or younger. Results from logistic regression and OLS regression found that male adults with early circumcision are more likely to have multiple sexual partners and to use condoms. Multiple partners and condom use at last sex encounter remained associated with a higher odds of being HIV positive after controlling for all factors. Nevertheless, early circumcision is significantly associated with a lower odds of being HIV positive (AOR 0.53, p  less then  0.01). These findings suggest that HIV prevention may benefit when early male circumcision is carried out.Despite evidence of premature, accentuated and accelerated aging for some age-related conditions such as cardiovascular diseases in people living with HIV (PLHIV), the evidence for these abnormal patterns of aging on neurocognition remains unclear. Further, no systematic review has been dedicated to this issue. Using PRISMA guidelines, we searched standard databases (PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL and PsycINFO). Articles were included if they analyzed and reported the effect of age on neurocognition among PLHIV as one of their major findings, if they were conducted in the combination anti-retroviral therapy era (after 1996) and published in a peer-reviewed journal in English. Quality appraisal was conducted using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) appraisal tools. To systematically target the abnormal patterns of neurocognitive aging, we define premature cognitive aging as significant interaction effect of HIV status and age on cross-sectional neurocognitive test performance covering both the normal and abnormal perfong studies need to harmonize neuropsychological measurement methods and outcomes and use a large sample from collaborative multi-sites to generate more robust evidences.
The use of image-guided stereotactic navigation is increasing in use in treating AIS; however, no studies have investigated perioperative outcomes and short-term adverse events compared with non-navigated procedures. The aim of the present study is to use a large national pediatric database to assess the rate of utilization of intraoperative navigation in pediatric patients undergoing posterior spinal fusion for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) and to compare thirty-day outcomes of navigated vs. non-navigated surgery.

The NSQIP-Pediatric database was queried for cases of posterior fusion for AIS. Patients were stratified by whether or not a concurrent code for stereotactic navigation was used (CPT 61,783). Year of procedure, demographics, comorbidities, operative variables and perioperative adverse outcomes were abstracted and assessed using univariate and multivariate analysis.

Overall, 12,739 non-navigated patients and 340 navigated patients were identified. The use of navigation increased from 0 outcomes were not significantly different between groups.
Wound healing is an important factor influencing morbidity following surgical procedures. The association of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) with numerous postoperative complications has beenpreviously reported. In this study, we report the impact of OSA-related symptoms on wound complications in breast cancer patients in thepostoperative period.

Breast cancer patients were enrolled for a prospective observational study. Outcome measures included sociodemographic data, self-reported sleep-wake questionnaires (Berlin questionnaire, STOP-BANG, and Epworth sleepiness scale [ESS]) as well as type of surgery, smoking status, duration of anesthesia, the need for postoperative opioid drugs, and complications for surgical wounds. Patients' general preoperative health status was quantified by using American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) scores.

A total of 132 women were included in the study, of whom 61% (n = 81) underwent mastectomy, and 39% (n = 51) had breast conserving surgery. Mean ESS score of the study group was 7.
