Therefore, we aimed to compare the performance of different adiposity indices [BMI (body mass index), WC (waist circumference), WHtR (waist-to-height ratio), ABSI (a body shape index), VAI (visceral adipose index), BFP (body fat percentage)] as associates and potential predictors of risk of hypertension among Chinese population. METHODS A cross-sectional survey was conducted in Jiangxi province, China from 2013 to 2014. A total of 14,573 participants were included in the study. The physical measurements included body height, weight, WC, BFP and VAI. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to assess the associations between different adiposity indices and the prevalence of hypertension. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was also performed. RESULTS All adiposity indices were independently and positively associated with the prevalence of hypertension in a dose response fashion. The area under the curves (AUCs) for WHtR, BFP and VAI were significantly larger than those for other adiposity indices in both males and females (all P  0.1). Carbohydrate Metabolism modulator The AUCs for hypertension associated with each adiposity index declined with age in both males and females. For subjects aged less then  65 years, WHtR still had the largest AUC. However, for participants aged ≥65 years, BMI had the largest AUC. CONCLUSION The findings indicated that WHtR was the best for predicting hypertension, followed by BFP and VAI, especially in younger population.BACKGROUND Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles in the regulation of plant responses to environmental stress by acting as essential regulators of gene expression. However, whether and how lncRNAs are involved in cold acclimation-dependent freezing tolerance in plants remains largely unknown. Medicago truncatula is a prominent model for studies of legume genomics, and distinguished by its cold-acclimation characteristics. To determine the roles of lncRNAs in plant cold stress response, we conducted genome-wide high-throughput sequencing in the legume model plant M. truncatula. RESULTS RNA-seq data were generated from twelve samples for the four treatments, i.e., non-cold treated leaves and roots, cold-treated leaves and roots of M. truncatula Jemalong A17 seedlings. A total of 1204 million raw reads were generated. Of them, 1150 million filtered reads after quality control (QC) were subjected to downstream analysis. A large number of 24,368 unique lncRNAs were identified from the twelve samples. lncRNAs in leaves and roots. We further dissected potential regulatory networks of CBF Intergenic RNA (MtCIR1) and MtCBFs that play critical roles in response and adaptation of M. truncatula to cold stress.BACKGROUND Patients with coronary chronic total occlusion (CTO) require effective antiplatelet therapy after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Ticagrelor has more pronounced platelet inhibition than clopidogrel. However, the most appropriate dose of ticagrelor in East Asian populations remains unclear. METHOD We compared ticagrelor (180 mg loading dose, 90 mg twice daily thereafter and 120 mg loading dose, 60 mg twice daily thereafter) and clopidogrel (300 mg loading dose, 75 mg daily thereafter) for prevention of cardiovascular events in 525patients with CTO undergoing PCI. RESULTS The rate of in-hospital major adverse cardiac and cerebral events (MACCE) was not different between the groups. At 1-year follow-up, target vessel revascularization (TVR) in both ticagrelor groups were significantly lower than that in the clopidogrel group (p = 0.047); TVR was significantly decreased in 60 mg ticagrelor compared to standard dose clopidogrel (p = 0.046). At 1-year follow-up, overall MACCE in both ticagrelor groups were significantly lower than that in the clopidogrel group (p = 0.023). Kaplan-Meier analysis showed MACCE-free survival was significantly higher in both ticagrelor groups than in the clopidogrel group (p = 0.024). During hospitalization, minor bleeding was significant increased in the 90 mg ticagrelor group (p = 0.021). At 1-year follow-up, risk of major and minor bleeding were significantly increased in the 90 mg ticagrelor group. CONCLUSION In East Asian patients with CTO undergoing PCI, 60 mg ticagrelor was as effective as 90 mg, at the same time significantly reduced risk of bleeding.BACKGROUND Studies have indicated that graphene oxide (GO) could regulated Brassica napus L. root growth via abscisic acid (ABA) and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). To study the mechanism and interaction between GO and IAA further, B. napus L (Zhongshuang No. 9) seedlings were treated with GO and IAA accordance with a two factor completely randomized design. RESULTS GO and IAA cotreatment significantly regulated the root length, number of adventitious roots, and contents of IAA, cytokinin (CTK) and ABA. Treatment with 25 mg/L GO alone or IAA (> 0.5 mg/L) inhibited root development. IAA cotreatment enhanced the inhibitory role of GO, and the inhibition was strengthened with increased in IAA concentration. GO treatments caused oxidative stress in the plants. The ABA and CTK contents decreased; however, the IAA and gibberellin (GA) contents first increased but then decreased with increasing IAA concentration when IAA was combined with GO compared with GO alone. The 9-cis-epoxycarotenoid dioxygenase (NCED) transcript level strongly increased when the plants were treated with GO.
