The Gods
The absolute deities responsible for the creation of existence, including the realms, living beings, elements, and the cycles of life and death. The Gods are divided into two groups: the Ancient Gods and the Modern Gods.
Ancient Gods
The first two Gods who came into existence—the Sun Goddess and the Moon God—brought forth all creation. They shaped the realms, the elements, and the fundamental forces of existence. The first realm they created was the Living Realm, where all life began.
However, endless conflicts erupted between the two Gods and among Mortals, driven by the struggle for survival. These catastrophic cycles persisted until one mortal appeased their wrath through sacred rituals, breaking the cycle of destruction. This same mortal proposed the creation of new realms, restoring balance and bringing peace. Intrigued by the potential of Mortal transcendence—especially after witnessing this individual rise to their level—the Ancient Gods grew fond of Mortals, encouraging them to surpass their limits and prove their worth, potentially even ascending to godhood.
The Two (2) Ancient Gods:
1. Sun Goddess – Known as "Amaterasu," she embodies light and creation, bringing life to existence. She was the first to create the Light Races, while Neutral Races were formed in union with the Moon God. Her core elements are Fire and Light, with Nature and Earth as her secondary elements.
2. Moon God – Known as "Tsukuyomi," he embodies darkness and death, providing contrast and balance to creation. He was the first to create the Dark Races, while Neutral Races were formed in union with the Sun Goddess. His core element is Dark, with Water, Lightning, and Wind as his secondary elements.
Modern Gods
- The ten deities born from the union of the Ancient Gods, each granted unique powers and roles. Eight of them govern the elements and oversee the three realms inhabited by Mortals, while the remaining two hold dominion over the afterlife realms, determining the judgment and fate of souls.
Unlike the Ancient Gods, the Modern Gods fear the idea of Mortals reaching their level of transcendence, with the exception of the Goddesses of Hell and Heaven, who remain neutral and refrain from interfering in Mortal affairs. While the Ancient Gods bestow blessings upon Mortals through effort, virtue, and the observance of Ancient Rituals, the Modern Gods grant blessings randomly. They are also responsible for the creation of the Ranking System, the Monster Hierarchy, and the construction of labyrinths, replacing an ancient, now obsolete labyrinth once formed by the Ancient Gods.
The Ten Modern Gods:
1. Fire Goddess – "Hino," governs the element of Fire.
2. Water God – "Suijin," governs the element of Water.
3. Nature Goddess – "Kunochi," also known as "Mother Nature," governs the element of Nature.
4. Earth Goddess – "Dojin," governs the element of Earth.
5. Wind God – "Fujin," governs the element of Wind.
6. Lightning God – "Raijin," governs the element of Lightning.
7. Light Goddess – "Hikari," governs the element of Light.
8. Dark God – "Daiko," governs the element of Dark.
9. Goddess of Hell – "Gehenna," ruler of Gehenna's Realm, possessing multiple elements like the Moon God.
10. Goddess of Heaven – "Elysium," ruler of Elysium's Realm, possessing multiple elements like the Sun Goddess.
Facts & Trivia:
- The names of the Ancient Gods and the six Elemental Gods are inspired by Shinto deities, while Gehenna comes from Biblical references, and Elysium originates from Greek mythology.
- Their roles and genders differ from their mythological inspirations.
- "Hino" was chosen as the Fire Goddess’s name instead of "Hi no Kami" to distinguish her from Amaterasu, the Shinto Sun Goddess, who is often associated with fire.
- The genders of the Elemental Gods are based on the elements their parents wielded.
[FEEDBACK FROM CHATGPT]
This version refines the descriptions for clarity, ensuring the hierarchy of the Gods is well-structured while keeping all your original details intact. The clarification about the mortal who ended the conflicts and proposed the new realms is now properly integrated.
The Gods system is well-structured and deeply integrated into the world’s lore. The division between the Ancient Gods and Modern Gods creates a strong contrast, highlighting their differing philosophies and relationships with Mortals. The Ancient Gods’ intrigue with transcendence adds a compelling layer to the story, while the Modern Gods’ fear of it creates natural tension.
The naming choices and inspirations tie well into the world’s themes, blending mythological references with unique interpretations. The elemental assignments are balanced, and the hierarchy of influence is clear. The existence of Gehenna and Elysium as both deities and realms strengthens the cycle of life, death, and reincarnation.
Overall, the Gods feel like a well-thought-out and integral part of the world, influencing both the grander cosmic order and the daily lives of Mortals. There’s a solid foundation for future expansions, whether through divine conflicts, mortal ascensions, or hidden lore.
