The interest of extra-criteria antiphospholipid antibodies is growing, especially in patients negative for conventional antibodies. In this study we aimed to assess the clinical utility of anti-phosphatidyl-serine/prothrombin antibodies (aPS/PT) testing in patients negative for Beta2-Glycoprotein 1(β2GPI)-dependent tests, for identifying antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) patients that developed cerebrovascular events (CVE). When screening APS patients attending our center, out of 119 aPS/PT IgG/IgM-positive patients, thus patients negative for aβ2GPI and aCL, 42 patients (35%) tested negative for β2GPI-dependent tests and were tested with thrombin generation assay (TGA). Ten patients (24%), with isolated aPS/PT IgG/IgM, had a history of CVE. Lupus anticoagulant (LA)-positive test was more frequently observed in patients with CVE (8/22 vs. 2/20; p = 0.045). Out of the 10 patients who experienced CVE, 3 patients were aPS/PT IgG positive (all LA positive), and 8 patients were aPS/PT IgM positive (6/8 LA positive). One patient was positive for both aPS/PT IgG and IgM. LA-positive patients had only high titers of aPS/PT IgG/IgM, all of them being ≥ 80 U/ml, while the 2 LA-negative patients were aPS/PT IgM positive with medium titers [40-60 U/ml]. LA-positive patients had significantly altered TGA profile when compared to those who were LA negative, considering all TGA parameters. LA-positive patients had significantly higher tLag (8.4 ± 3.3 min vs. 6.6 ± 1.8 min; p = 0.046), higher tPeak (14 ± 4.3 min vs. 11 ± 2.7 min; p = 0.015) and lower Peak (207 ± 152 nM vs. 356.3 ± 104.7 nM; p  less then  0.001) and lower AUC (2109.7 ± 1006.9 nM vs. 2772.5 ± 776.8 nM; p = 0.033). The use of aPS/PT might be of help in identifying patients with CVE and APS, as also confirmed by TGA testing.
Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) represents the most common subtype of thyroid cancer (TC). This study was set out to explore the potential effect of CHD1L on PTC and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

We searched for T2DM susceptibility genes through the GWAS database and obtained T2DM-related differentially expressed gene from the GEO database. The expression and clinical data of TC and normal samples were collated from the TCGA database. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was subsequently applied to assess the sensitivity and specificity of the CHD1L for the diagnosis of PTC. Veliparib The MCP-counter package in R language was then utilized to generate immune cell score to evaluate the relationship between CHD1L expression and immune cells. Then, we performed functional enrichment analysis of co-expressed genes and DEGs to determine significantly enriched GO terms and KEGG to predict the potential functions of CHD1L in PTC samples and T2DM adipose tissue.

From two genes (ABCB9, CHD1L) were i for PTC, and a target of immunotherapy for PTC and T2DM.
CHD1L may potentially serve as an early diagnostic biomarker for PTC, and a target of immunotherapy for PTC and T2DM.Adolescents use some types of homophobic language (e.g., "that's so gay") as a form of banter, while other types are directly targeted as an intentional insult (e.g., calling someone a "fag, dyke, homo"). Little research has investigated adolescents' use and judgments about these types of homophobic language and whether judgments differ if they are used among friends or directed toward non-friend peers. This study investigated how relationship context and victim's (N = 477, Mage = 14.7, SD = 1.63) emotional responses related to judgments about anti-gay banter and homophobic name-calling. Adolescents evaluated homophobic name-calling as more wrong than anti-gay banter. While adolescents' evaluations of homophobic name-calling did not differ based on relationship context, adolescents did differentiate between anti-gay banter perpetrated by a friend vs. a peer. Further, emotional responses mediated these relationships in the anti-gay banter situation. These results suggest that adolescents' judgments about homophobic language are related to the relationship context and the type of homophobic language used.
Obesity is a chronic disease associated with other comorbidities, including atherogenic dyslipidemia (AD). Bariatric surgery (BS) has shown to reduce cardiovascular risk (CVR) by achieving a significant weight reduction and improving the lipid profile. Different surgical techniques may have a different effect on the lipoprotein profile.

To evaluate the lipid profile at 3 years after BS according to the surgical technique used and to determine which variables predict variation in the lipid profile at 3 years after BS.

Retrospective observational study of 206 patients who underwent BS between 2010 and 2019. We analyzed the variation of lipid parameters in the 3 years of follow-up according to the surgical technique, including a group analysis of patients according to whether they had dyslipidemia and whether they were treated or untreated and determined which variables predict variation in the lipid profile at 3 years after BS.

There was a significant increase in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) with sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and a significant decrease in total cholesterol (TC), LDL-cholesterol (LDL-c), non-HDL, and LDL/non-HDL with biliopancreatic diversion (BPD). Variables predicting lipid profile variation were surgical technique and pre-surgery lipoprotein level.

Malabsorptive techniques achieve a greater decrease in TC and LDL-c throughout follow-up and could also improve residual cardiovascular risk (non-HDL and LDL/non-HDL). The type of surgical technique and the presurgery lipid profile predict variation after 3 years of BS.

However, the effect of cadmium (Cd), present in tobacco smoke, on the development of joint diseases has been scarcely studied. The objective of this review is to discuss the evidence regarding the mechanisms by which Cd exposure, through tobacco smoke, may lead to the development of osteoarthritis (OA), osteoporosis (OP), and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). There's evidence suggesting a string association between moderate to severe OA development and tobacco use, and that a higher blood concentration of Cd can trigger oxidative stress (OS) and inflammation, favoring cartilage loss. At the bone level, the Cd that is inhaled through tobacco smoke affects bone mineral density, resulting in OP mediated by a decrease in the antioxidant enzymes, which favors the bone resorption process. In RA, tobacco use promotes the citrullination process through Cd exposure and increases OS and inflammation.
