For this sake, we carried out a narrative review of high-level of evidence studies comparing treatment outcomes in fractures with controversial debates on the value of surgical therapy in clavicle, proximal humerus, olecranon, ankle, calcaneus and Jones fractures. We identified eight studies (Level-I and -2) with functional and quality of life outcomes in these fractures. Only in Jones fractures of the fifth metatarsal bone, bone healing and functional outcomes were significantly better after surgical compared to conservative treatment. In terms of patient-related quality of life, surgical treatment was not found to be superior compared to conservative treatment in all the above-mentioned fractures. In many trials, lower nonunion rates after surgical treatment were offset by complications due to the surgical procedure. Nonunion after conservative treatment often seemed to have only limited impact on functional results. However, the comparability of studies was limited due to age-differences between patients. Therefore, we emphasize the need for further investigations to determine which patient-related factors favor a conservative treatment approach and for whom surgery is the best option.The process of bone healing largely recapitulates bone development in the embryo and ideally achieves complete restoration of bone shape and structure. However, because successful fracture healing requires tight interactions of numerous cell types and signaling molecules, any disruption of this highly coordinated processes can result in delayed healing or even non-union formation. The rate of fracture healing complications in orthopedic patients is reported to be 5-20%. Therefore, there is a need for new therapeutic strategies to improve fracture healing in patients with healing complications. One treatment strategy would include the easy and safe application of a pharmacological agent inducing osteoanabolic effects during fracture healing. One potential promising molecular target is the osteoanabolic WNT signaling pathway. This pathway plays an important role during embryonic bone development, homeostasis, mechanotransduction, development of osteoporosis and bone regeneration. This review focuses on preclinical studies targeting WNT signaling molecules to accelerate fracture healing. The three main investigated antagonists of the WNT signaling pathway, which can be blocked experimentally by antibodies, are Sclerostin, Dickkopf-1 and Midkine. Treating animals with antibodies against these proteins enhanced bone formation in the fracture callus. This indicates a therapeutic potential for these antibodies to accelerate fracture healing in patients with orthopedic complications.Strategies for incorporating water-insoluble photosensitisers (PS) in drug delivery systems have been extensively studied. In this work, we evaluate the formation, characterisation, drug sorption studies, and cytotoxicity of chitosan (CHT)/chondroitin sulphate (CS) polyelectrolyte complexes (PECs) coated with polystyrene-block-poly(acrylic acid) (PS-b-PAA) nanoparticles (NPs) loaded with chloroaluminum phthalocyanine (AlClPc). The PECs were characterised by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetric (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The PS-b-PAA NPs on the PEC surface was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Additionally, optical images distinguished the PEC structures containing PS-b-PAA or PS-b-PAA/AlClPc from the unloaded PEC. Kinetic and equilibrium studies investigate the sorption capacity of the PEC/PS-b-PAA toward AlClPc. The encapsulation efficiency reached 95% at 190 μg mL-1 AlClPc after only 15 min. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic fitted well to the experimental data. The PS-b-PAA NPs on the PEC surfaces increase the AlClPc bioavailability and the PEC structure stabilizes the PS-b-PAA/AlClPc nanostructures. The materials were cytocompatible upon healthy VERO (kidney epithelial cells), and cytotoxic against colorectal cancerous cells (HT-29 cells). For the first time, we associate PS-b-PAA/AlClPc with a hydrophilic and cytocompatible polysaccharide matrix. We suggest the use of these materials in strategies to treat cancer by using photodynamic therapy.
To evaluate the feasibility of bat-shaped en-bloc total peritonectomy and total hysterectomy-salpingo-oophorectomy with or without rectosigmoid resection as a novel approach in advanced ovarian cancer surgery.

Advanced ovarian cancer patients with widespread peritoneal implants requiring total peritonectomy were the subject of the study. FTY-720 S1P Receptor modulator Thirteen cases were operated with Sarta-Bat approach between February 2019 and July 2020. Patients' clinical and surgical data were collected and statistically analyzed.

Median age of the patients was 52 (40-65). Histopathology of the tumors were high-grade serous carcinoma in 12 (92.3%) and carcinosarcoma in one (7.7%) cases and all of them originated from the ovary. Eight (61.5%), two (15.4%) and three (23.1%) patients were stage 3c, 4a, and 4b, respectively. Upper abdomen was involved in all cases. Nine cases underwent primary cytoreductive and four cases interval cytoreductive surgery. Sarta-Bat approach was performed as en-bloc total peritonectomy, total hysterectomy bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy with rectosigmoid resection in three and without rectosigmoid resection in 10 cases. Final surgery resulted in complete cytoreduction (no macroscopic residual) in all cases, with acceptable grade 2-3 morbidity rates.
