Lectins are highly specific binding proteins for glycoproteins which widely exist in living organisms, playing a vital role in exploring the biological evolution process, such as cellular proliferation, differentiation, carcinogenesis and apoptosis. Therefore, the content monitoring of lectin becomes particularly significant and urgent in the bioanalytical application. In this work, we fabricated an aptasensor, majorly capitalizing the eminent affinity between sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin (Ig)-like lectin 5 (Siglec-5) and nucleic acids aptamer (K19), with nontoxic MoS2@Au nanocomposites as electrochemiluminescence (ECL) emitters based on exonuclease III (Exo III)-powered DNA walker for the bioassays of Siglec-5. The DNA track was constructed on the emitters' surface, providing a reliable platform for the DNA walker's autonomous move. In the assay, the primer DNA in the DNA duplex was replaced by Siglec-5 due to the aptamer interactions and repeatedly released to participate in the movement of the DNA walker, further triggering cascade signal amplification. Finally, our aptasensor indicates significant potential for assays of Siglec-5 with a detection limit of 8.9 pM.Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) can cause mild to severe acute respiratory illness with a high mortality rate. As of January 2020, more than 2500 cases of MERS-CoV resulting in around 860 deaths were reported globally. In the absence of neither effective treatment nor a ready-to-use vaccine, control measures can be derived from mathematical models of disease epidemiology. In this manuscript, we propose and analyze a compartmental model of zoonotic MERS-CoV transmission with two co-circulating strains. The human population is considered with eight compartments while the zoonotic camel population consist of two compartments. The expression of basic reproduction numbers are obtained for both single strain and two strain version of the proposed model. We show that the disease-free equilibrium of the system with single stain is globally asymptotically stable under some parametric conditions. We also demonstrate that both models undergo backward bifurcation phenomenon, which in turn indicates that only keeping R 0 below unity may not ensure eradication. To the best of the authors knowledge, backward bifurcation was not shown in a MERS-CoV transmission model previously. Further, we perform normalized sensitivity analysis of important model parameters with respect to basic reproduction number of the proposed model. Furthermore, we perform optimal control analysis on different combination interventions with four components namely preventive measures such as use of masks, isolation of strain-1 infected people, strain-2 infected people and infected camels. Angiogenesis inhibitor Optimal control analysis suggests that combination of preventive measures and isolation of infected camels will eventually eradicate the disease from the community.Growing algae in darkness for biodiesel production eliminates the challenges of evaporation and light penetration reported for open ponds and the costs and fouling that plague photobioreactors. The current study demonstrated that Chlorella kessleri str. UTEX 263 could grow heterotrophically in the dark on pure sugars or lignocellulosic hydrolysates of plant biomass. Hydrolysates of a prairie grass native to Kansas, Big bluestem (Andropogon gerardii), supported the growth of C. kessleri in the dark. Nitrogen limitation stimulated the accumulation of biodiesel lipids by 10-fold in heterotrophic cultures grown on pure sugars or Big bluestem hydrolysate. Limiting P in the growth medium also was shown to increase cellular lipid accumulation in C. kessleri. Iron limitation was not sufficient to increase cellular lipid content. Crude biomass extracts may have levels of N that can't be easily removed, which are high enough to relieve N limitations in growth media. This initial study suggests that P might be more easily removed from biomass extracts than N for increasing cellular lipid production by nutrient limitation and further that native prairie grasses are potentially suitable as sources of lignocellulosic sugars. The current pandemic situation due to COVID-19 is seriously affecting our daily work and life. To block the propagation of infectious diseases, an effective contact tracing mechanism needs to be implemented. Unfortunately, existing schemes have severe privacy issues that jeopardize the identity-privacy and location-privacy for both users and patients. Although some privacy-preserving systems have been proposed, there remain several issues caused by centralization. To mitigate this issues, we propose a Privacy-preserving contact Tracing scheme in 5G-integrated and Blockchain-based Medical applications, named PTBM. In PTBM, the 5G-integrated network is leveraged as the underlying infrastructure where everyone can perform location checking with his mobile phones or even wearable devices connected to 5G network to find whether they have been in possible contact with a diagnosed patient without violating their privacy. A trusted medical center can effectively trace the patients and their corresponding close contacts. Thorough security and performance analysis show that the proposed PTBM scheme achieves privacy protection, traceability, reliability, and authentication, with high computation & communication efficiency and low latency. We study the effects of traditional cigarette and e-cigarette taxes on use of these products among adults in the United States. Data are drawn from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System and National Health Interview Survey over the period 2011 to 2018. Using two-way fixed effects models, we find evidence that higher traditional cigarette tax rates reduce adult traditional cigarette use and increase adult e-cigarette use. Similarly, we find that higher e-cigarette tax rates increase traditional cigarette use and reduce e-cigarette use. Cross-tax effects imply that the products are economic substitutes. Our results suggest that a proposed national e-cigarette tax of $1.65 per milliliter of vaping liquid would raise the proportion of adults who smoke cigarettes daily by approximately one percentage point, translating to 2.5 million extra adult daily smokers compared to the counterfactual of not having the tax.
