Homoleptic dinuclear beryllium carbonyl cation complexes have been produced and characterized in the gas phase. Intra-articular (IA) injections are used frequently for knee osteoarthritis (OA), but little is known about patients' attitudes towards these therapies. We aimed to better understand patients' perceptions of the facilitators of and barriers to IA injections for knee OA.

We conducted a qualitative, descriptive/exploratory study and held focus groups and individual interviews with participants with knee OA, including some who had received IA injections and others who had not received IA injections. We conducted a thematic analysis to identify themes describing the factors participants found influential when deciding whether to try an IA injection.

We held three focus groups with 12 participants and conducted three individual interviews (15 participants total). We identified four themes that shaped participants' decisions to receive a specific injection 1) the impact of OA on participants' lives; 2) participants' attitudes and concerns, including desire to avoid surgery, willingness to accept uncertain outh a desire to decrease pain. These findings can provide clinicians, investigators, and public health professionals with insights into challenges patients face when making injection decisions.Non-white people are more likely to develop systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), yet are underrepresented in SLE clinical trials. The efficacy and safety of drugs may be influenced by ancestry, and ancestrally diverse study populations are necessary to optimize treatments across the full spectrum of patients. However, barriers to entry into clinical trials are amplified in non-white populations. To address these issues, a conference was held in Bethesda, Maryland from October 15th -16th , 2019 entitled "Increasing Ancestral Diversity in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Clinical Studies Overcoming the Barriers." Participants included people with lupus, lupus physicians, lupus clinical trialists, treatment developers from biotechnology, social scientists, patient advocacy groups, and United States government representatives (the Office of Minority Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, and the Food and Drug Administration). For all of these groups, the organizers purposefully included people of non-white ancestry. Decreased participation of non-white SLE patients in clinical research was evaluated through historical, societal, experiential, and pragmatic perspectives, and several interventional programs to increase non-white patient participation in SLE and non-SLE research were described and discussed. The presentations and discussions highlighted the need for changes at the societal, institutional, research team, referring physician, and patient education levels to achieve equitable ancestral representation in SLE clinical studies.
The patient experience of a gout flare is multi-dimensional. To establish the most appropriate methods of flare measurement, there is a need to understand the complete experience of a flare. This qualitative study aimed to examine what factors contribute to the severity of a flare from the patient perspective.

Face-to-face interviews were conducted with people with gout. Participants were asked to share their experience with their worst gout flare and contrast it to their experience of a less severe or mild flare. Twenty-two participants with gout (17 males, mean age 66.5 years) were interviewed at an academic centre in Auckland, New Zealand. Four key themes were identified as contributing to the severity of a flare flare characteristics (pain intensity, joint swelling, redness and warmth, duration, and location), impact on function (including walking, activities of daily living, wearing footwear, and sleep), impact on family and social life (dependency on others, social connection, and work) and psychological impact (depression, anxiety, irritability, and sense of control).

A total of 173 individuals were diagnosed positive (49.8%) 11.5% were found positive to Leptospira by microscopic agglutination test positive, whereas 38.3% were found positive by microscopy analysis. The maximum peak of leptospirosis was reached in 2017 (n = 32). Changes in osmolality can affect cell functions due to the energy consuming processes needed to control cell volume. The aim was to examine the effects of a hypotonic challenge for spermatozoa exposed to increased osmolality. Spermatozoa were selected by density gradient centrifugation and washed in media with different osmolalities. Osmolality was measured by freezing-point depression and sperm velocities by CASA. Swimming pattern observations and assessments of tail morphology of fixed spermatozoa were done with phase contrast microscopy. Increased osmolality did not change the curvilinear velocity (VCL), while decreased osmolality reduced or abolished VCL nonreversibly. For spermatozoa first exposed to 400 mOsm/kg, reversal of osmolality to 290 mOsm/kg reduced the VCL and the average path velocity (VAP) permanently. Hypotonic challenges increased sperm tail coiling and folding in a dose-response pattern.
