6%). Two patients had malignant accessory pathway (AP) properties. Over median follow-up of 842 days (interquartile range 138-1678), 11 patients (85%) had ICD placement, and 6 (46.1%) underwent heart transplantation. No patients required therapy for ventricular tachycardia, and 2 patients (15%) had paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.
In a large multicenter cohort of patients with Danon disease, there was a high prevalence of FVP and extranodal pathways diagnosed on EPS in those with preexcitation. These findings suggest patients with preexcitation and Danon disease should undergo EPS to assess for FVP and potentially malignant extranodal AP.

Herein we report the identification and genomic profiling of two multidrug-resistant E. coli strains [BL-II-03(2) and BL-II-11(3)] belonging to the O15H1-D-ST393 (clonal complex 31) worldwide spread clone, isolated from fecal samples of indigenous peoples belonging to two different ethnic groups of remote communities of Brazilian Amazon. Genomic analysis revealed genes and mutations conferring resistance to β-lactams [blaTEM-1], aminoglycosides [aadA5, aph(3″)-Ib, aph(6)-Id], tetracyclines [tetB], sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim [sul1, sul2, dfrA17], and fluoroquinolones [gyrA (D87N, S83L), parC (S80I, S57T), parE (L416F)]; and presence of IncQ1, IncFIA, and IncFIB(pB171) plasmids. On the other hand, phylogenomics of globally reported E. coli ST393 assigned E. coli strains BL-II-03(2) and BL-II-11(3) to a cluster comprising human isolates from Australia, Canada, China, Sweden, and United States of America. These results might provide valuable information for understanding dissemination of intercontinental multidrug-resistant clones in remote communities with low levels of antibiotic exposure.Captive chimpanzees living in confined environments like sanctuaries or primatology centers are frequently affected by gastrointestinal parasites. Some of these are likely to be transmitted to humans and may seriously affect public health. However little information is currently available on the gastrointestinal parasites of primates living in such environments. Here, we characterize the diversity and prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites in two populations of captive chimpanzees living in south-eastern Gabon. Our study reveals that at least nine parasite species infect the chimpanzees with high prevalence, including several helminths (Ascaris spp., Enterobius spp., Strongyloides spp., Trichuris spp., Hymenolepis spp., Mammomonogamus spp), three protozoa (Balantioides spp., Entamoeba spp. and Troglodytella spp) and several unidentified parasites. All the parasite taxa we identified had previously been identified in other primates, including humans. Age, sex and site type may influence infection rates and/or parasite diversity found in a particular host.
Explore potential racial/ethnic differences, describe general clinical characteristic, and severe outcomes (intensive care unit [ICU] admission, mechanical ventilation [intubation], and death) between Hispanic/Latinx (hereafter Hispanics or Latinx community) and non-Hispanic patients hospitalized with COVID-19.
Retrospective cohort of 326 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 through April 19, 2020. Sociodemographic and hospital course data were collected and analyzed. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was implemented to examine associations.
Compared with non-Hispanic Whites (NHW), Hispanics were younger (53 years, median age) and had higher rates of Medicaid and less commercial/HMO/PPO coverage (P < .001). Similarly, in the age sub-grouped multivariate analysis for outcomes, Hispanics ≥65-year-old were 2.66 times more likely to be admitted to ICU (95% CI 1.07-6.61; P=.03), and 3.67 times more likely to get intubated (95% CI 1.29-10.36; P=.01).
Hospitalized Hispanic patients of ≥65-year-old with COVID-19 were more likely to have higher risk of more severe outcomes (ICU admission and intubation) compared with NHW. Hispanic patient's social determinants of health and underlying medical conditions may explain the heightened risk for severe outcomes. Further studies are necessary to more accurately identify and address health disparities in Hispanics and other vulnerable populations amidst COVID-19 and future pandemics.

The majority of degradable implant systems developed to date are composed of poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA). However, PLGA-based systems are not suitable for the delivery of all drugs. Each drug is unique in terms of physico-chemical properties, and polymer-drug compatibility plays a significant role in determining a drug formulation's performance. In this study, two novel cross-linkable δ-valerolactone-based copolymers were synthesized and used to prepare cross-linked disc-shaped implants. Benzylamiloride nmr The manipulation of the composition of the discs and conditions used during drug loading were found to influence various aspects of the delivery system performance including the degree of swelling, degradation, drug-loading and in vitro release. The polymeric discs resulted in no adverse effects following subcutaneous implantation in naïve rats. These studies support further development of cross-linkable valerolactone matrices as implantable formulations for sustained drug delivery.
