We present here a 3D correlative cryo X-ray microscopy approach suited for the quantification of molar concentrations and structure in native samples at nanometer scale. The multimodal approach combines X-ray fluorescence and X-ray holographic nanotomography on "thick" frozen-hydrated cells. The quantitativeness of the X-ray fluorescence reconstruction is improved by estimating the self-attenuation from the 3D holography reconstruction. Applied to complex macrophage cells, we extract the quantification of major and minor elements heavier than phosphorus, as well as the density, in the different organelles. The intracellular landscape shows remarkable elemental differences. This novel analytical microscopy approach will be of particular interest to investigate complex biological and chemical systems in their native environment.Most of sodium-layered oxide cathodes are unstable under moisture conditions. As a unique water-stable cathode, Na2/3Ni1/3Mn2/3O2 (NNM) usually becomes vulnerable to water molecules after element substitution treatment to suppress the Na+ vacancy ordering arrangement, which causes limited Na+ diffusion kinetics. Herein, we show that these issues can be addressed simultaneously by rational designing the transition-metal (TM) layer to achieve both water-stable and Na+ vacancy disordering structures. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the water-stability of the layered oxide cathode can be correlated to the surface adsorption energy of H2O molecules. In the TM layer, the Co/Mn and Fe/Mn units exhibit a much lower adsorption energy than that of the Li/Mn unit, and hence the H2O molecule prefers to be absorbed on Co/Mn and Fe/Mn units rather than Li/Mn. Moreover, the Li/Mn unit in the TM layer can suppress the Na+ vacancy ordering structure in NNM to improve the Na+ diffusion kinetics. As a consequence, the well-designed Na2/3Li1/9Ni5/18Mn2/3O2 cathode can not only maintain its original crystal structure and electrochemical property after water soaking treatment but also exhibit high rate capability (78% capacity retention at 20 C) and excellent cycling stability (87% capacity retention after 1000 cycles).INTRODUCTION It remains unclear whether intraoperative use of volatile anesthetics has a positive effect on postoperative clinical outcomes in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Therefore, we aimed to systematically analyze the long- and short-term mortality rates and the clinical outcomes of volatile anesthesia compared to those of total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) in patients undergoing CABG. DRB18 EVIDENCE ACQUISITION We queried the MEDLINE, Embase, and CENTRAL databases from inception to October 2019 for relevant randomized clinical trials (RCTs) on the intraoperative use of volatile anesthetics in patients undergoing CABG. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS We pooled and analyzed 36 eligible RCTs with 10,308 patients and found that there was no significant difference in the long- and short-term mortality rate between the use of volatile anesthesia and TIVA during CABG. 30-day mortality, volatile group (39/2,824, 1.4%) vs TIVA group (35/2,786, 1.3%), RR=1.11, 95% CI [0.70, 1.74], P-value for effect = 0.66, I2 =0%, moderate-certainty evidence; One-year mortality, volatile group (77/2,749, 2.8%) vs TIVA group (78/2,731, 2.9%), RR=0.98, 95% CI [0.72, 1.34], P-value for effect = 0.90, I2 =0%, moderate- certainty evidence. Mechanical ventilation time was reduced in volatile group (MD -0.65, 95% CI [-1.07, -0.24], P-value for effect = 0.002, I2 = 26%). CONCLUSIONS There is no difference in the long- and short-term mortality and clinical outcomes between intraoperative use of volatile anesthetics and TIVA during CABG. However, volatile anesthetics may shorten the mechanical ventilation time. Aim of the current review is to provide an overview on the available techniques and devices for the endoscopic ultrasound-guided sampling of pancreatic solid and cystic lesions.Left ventricular pseudoaneurysms (LVP) are rare but may arise after myocardial infarction, trauma or cardiac surgery, tending to expand and rupture over the time. We show the case of a 75-year-old patient with a recurrent giant ventricular pseudoaneurysm, who presented to the emergency department with sustained ventricular tachycardia. Pseudoaneurysmatic lesion was investigated through echocardiography, angiography and Cardiac Computed Tomography, in order to evaluate the size and spatial orientation of the pseudoaneurysm and to set a tailored treatment. At emergency department, sustained ventricular tachycardia may be the first and unique clinical presentation of ventricular pseudoaneurysm late recurrence, whose management requires a multimodality imaging approach to guide surgical correction.
