The aim of this study was to appraise the morbidity following PDO through a systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods A systematic search of MEDLINE, Embase, and Web Of Science identified studies reporting outcomes of PDO following pancreaticoduodenectomy. Pooled prevalence rates of postoperative complications and mortality were computed using random-effect modeling. Meta-regression analyses were performed to examine the impact of moderators on the overall estimates. Results Sixteen studies involving 1000 patients were included. Pooled postoperative mortality was 2.7%. A POPF was reported in 29.7% of the patients. Clinically relevant POPFs occurred in 13.5% of the patients, while intra-abdominal abscess and haemorrhages occurred in 6.7% and 5.5% of the patients, respectively. Re-operation was necessary in 7.6% of the patients. Postoperatively new onset diabetes occurred in 15.8% of patients, more frequently after the use of chemical substances for PDO (p = 0.003). Conclusions PDO is associated with significant morbidity including new onset of post-operative diabetes. The risk of new onset post-operative diabetes is associated with the use of chemical substance for PDO. Further evidence is needed to evaluate the potential benefits of PDO in patients at high risk of POPF.The transcription and expression of functional genes governed the biotransformation of nutrients during composting. In this study, the diversities of functional genes were investigated in 50 days chicken manure composting through six treatments amended with different dosage of red kaolin. Results showed that based on Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway annotation, Metabolism possessed largest proportion and richest genes number among six pathways, of which carbohydrate metabolism (81007) were significantly greater than others; while Human Disease and Organismal Systems were relatively lower. Meanwhile, the addition of red kaolin has an important impact on dynamics of KEGG genes, the relative abundance of detected genes were distinctively different in all treatments. Similarity analysis also showed the varying influence of different proportion of red kaolin on functional genes during chicken manure composting. In conclusion, application of red kaolin in chicken manure composting effectively improved the relative abundance of functional genes.Introduction Whooping cough in patients aged under 3 months has higher rates of morbimortality. Many patients with cough without other signs of alarm, are admitted and started antibiotic therapy until a result of Bordetella-PCR is available. This technique, when performed urgently, can provide the diagnosis in a few hours. The objective of this study is to determine if its generalisation in the Emergency Department allows to improve patient management. Methods Retrospective cohort study of patients aged under 3 months who underwent Bordetella-PCR testing from upper respiratory tract secretions since March 2011 to December 2017. C646 From December 2015 the test was performed urgently. Results One hundred and fifty-eight PCR were performed, 16 (10%) were positive for B. pertussis. Negative results (142; 90%) were divided in 2 cohorts conventional-PCR, with 74 cases, and urgent-PCR, with 68 cases. The 2 groups were homogeneous in terms of clinical and analytical characteristics. In the urgent-PCR group there was 18% reduction in chest X-rays performed (P=.008). There were 33 (48.5%) patients admitted in the urgent-PCR group, compared to 49 (66.2%) in the conventional-PCR (P=.042). Antibiotic treatment was initiated in 32% of the patients in the urgent-PCR group compared to 67% in the conventional-PCR group (P=.000047), without observing any significant increase in the number of visits to the Emergency Department or worse clinical performance. Conclusions The introduction of urgent PCR in the Emergency Department is a useful tool in the management of infants under 3 months of age with suspected pertussis, since it can avoid unnecessary admissions, diagnostic tests and antibiotic treatments.Tunneling nanotubes (TNTs) are thin membrane tubes connecting remote cells and allowing the transfer of cellular content. Patients and methods Clinical records of patients aged 0-18 years with maxillofacial trauma, from January 2008 to December 2016 were reviewed. 390 patients with an average age of 9.8 ±5.8 years (range 8 months-18 years) and a malefemale ratio of approximately 21 were included in the study. Epidemiological features (age, sex, etiology), characteristics of injuries (locations, types, associated injuries), treatments, and complications were analyzed. Results Among 55 patients with soft tissue injuries, palate was the most common site (32.7%). Among 335 fracture cases, the most common age group was 16-18 years (25.1%); falls was the main cause (38.2%). Overall, there were 450 fractures (1.78 per capita), primarily mandible (69.3%), followed by zygoma (12.9%), maxilla (7.7%) and other sites. Multiple fractures occurred in 61.5% of patients.
