Samples from cerebral tissue were collected on day 20 for histopathological, biochemical and gene expression analyses. Total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and malondialdehyde (MDA) increased; glutathione peroxidase (GPX) expression and activity decreased in IONPs-treated groups. Ferroptotic cells appeared in the cerebral tissue following exposure to the low dose of MGMNP and MGTNP. Oxidative stress and ferroptotic cells were more evident for MGMNP compared to MGTNP. The low dose of MGMNP and MGTNP induced more severe oxidative stress in the cerebral tissue. According to the results, maternal exposure to IONPs is associated with ferroptosis in the brain. This work could encourage future researches to investigate inhibitors of ferroptosis as a protective strategy against iron-induced cell injuries and cell death.Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) is a Gram-positive coccoid, non-sporulating, facultative anaerobic, multidrug resistance bacterium responsible for almost 65% to 80% of all enterococcal nosocomial infections. It usually causes infective endocarditis, urinary tract and surgical wound infections. The increase in E. faecalis resistance to conventionally available antibiotic has rekindled intense interest in developing useful antibacterial drugs. In E. faecalis, diaminopimelate epimerase (DapF) is involved in the lysine biosynthetic pathway. The product of this pathway is precursors of peptidoglycan synthesis, which is a component of bacterial cell wall. Also, because mammals lack this enzyme, consequently E. faecalis diaminopimelate epimerase (EfDapF) represents a potential target for developing novel class of antibiotics. In this regard, we have successfully cloned, overexpressed the gene encoding DapF in BL-21(DE3) and purified with Ni-NTA Agarose resin. In addition to this, binding studies were performed using fluorescence spectroscopy in order to confirm the bindings of the identified lead compounds (acetaminophen and dexamethasone) with EfDapF. Docking studies revealed that acetaminophen found to make hydrogen bonds with Asn72 and Asn13 while dexamethasone interacted by forming hydrogen bonds with Asn205 and Glu223. Thus, biochemical studies indicated acetaminophen and dexamethasone, as potential inhibitors of EfDapF and eventually can reduce the catalytic activity of EfDapF.
There are sparse data on the role of flexible bronchoscopy (FB) in diagnosing invasive mould infections (IMIs).

To investigate the safety and usefulness of FB in IMI. We evaluate the factors associated with a successful diagnosis of IMI using FB. Further, we compare subjects of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) with pulmonary mucormycosis (PM).

We retrospectively reviewed the clinical features, imaging data, bronchoscopy, microbiology and pathology details of subjects who underwent FB for suspected IMI. We categorised FB as diagnostic if it contributed to the diagnosis of IMI. We performed a multivariate analysis to identify the factors associated with a diagnostic bronchoscopy.

Of the 3521 FB performed over 18months, 132 (3.7%) were done for suspected IMIs. We included 107 subjects for the final analysis. The risk factors for IMI included renal transplantation (29.0%), diabetes (27.1%), haematological malignancy (10.3%) and others. We found bronchoscopic abnormalities in 33 (30.8%) subjects, and these were more frequent in those with confirmed PM (67%) than IPA (27%). IMI was confirmed in 79 (14 proven, 48 probable and 17 possible) subjects. FB was diagnostic in 71%. We experienced major complications in three cases (2.7%), including one death. On multivariate analysis, the visualisation of endobronchial abnormalities during FB (OR [95%, CI], 8.5 [1.4-50.4]) was the only factor associated with a diagnostic FB after adjusting for age and various risk factors.

Few studies, however, have evaluated paternal and maternal contributions to the triadic dimensions of temperament. Rhesus monkeys are widely utilized to model genetic contributions to human development due to their close genetic-relatedness and common temperament structure, providing a powerful translational model for investigating paternal and maternal genetic influences on temperament. The temperament of rhesus monkey infants born to 19 different sires and 50 different dams was assessed during the first month of life by comparing the temperament of paternal or maternal half-siblings reared with their mothers in species-normative conditions or reared in a neonatal nursery. Factor scores from three dimensions of temperament were obtained (Orienting/Regulation, Negative Affectivity, and Surgency/Extraversion) and ANOVAs were used to assess genetic effects. For paternal half-siblings, results showed a statistically significant paternal contribution to Orienting/Regulation, Negative Affectivity, and Surgency/Extraversion factor scores. For maternal half-siblings, results showed a statistically significant contribution to Orienting/Regulation factor scores. When parsed by early rearing condition, results showed a paternal contribution Orienting/Regulation, Negative Affectivity, and Surgency/Extraversion scores for paternal half-siblings reared in the neonatal nursery, while there was only a paternal contribution to Surgency/Extraversion for paternal half-siblings reared by their mothers. There was only a maternal contribution to Orienting/Regulation for maternal half-siblings reared by their mothers. These results show that paternal and maternal contributions to temperament vary by environmental context, and that mothers may environmentally buffer their infants from paternal contributions to their temperament.
