In recent years, the clinical efficacy of spinal fusion (SF) or total disc arthroplasty (TDA) in the treatment of the degenerative lumbar disc disease is still controversial. The objective of this retrospective clinical trial was to investigate whether TDA was superior to the SF in the complication rates and clinical outcome scores.

This retrospective research was based on the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational studies in Epidemiology checklist. Internal clinical data sets for 2014 to 2018 were acquired and consolidated with the approval of the Institutional Review Committee of Shaoxing Hospital of Zhejiang University. Inclusion criteria in this present research included low back pain without or with the leg pain for more than one year; failure of conservative treatment planned for more than three months; age was 25 to 60 years old; followed up for at least one year. The main outcome measure was disability and pain measured via the Norwegian version of Oswestry disability index 2.0. The other clinical outcomes included Short-Form Health Survey, reoperations, duration of surgery, complications, hospital stay length, as well as the blood loss. The significance was set at 0.05 level with the confidence intervals of 95%. The null hypothesis is that there is no significant difference in outcomes between TDA and SF in the treatment of degenerative lumbar disc disease.

Dry eye disease (DED) has shown a significant increase in recent years, which seriously affects people's work and life. Xiaosheng Powder, a traditional Chinese medicine decoction, has been widely used in treating DED. However, there is no systematic review of the results of the study on this therapeutic effect. The purpose of this review is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Xiaosheng Powder in the treatment of DED.

The electronic databases to be searched will include MEDLINE (PubMed), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials in the Cochrane Library, Excerpta Medica Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Scientific Journal Database, Wanfang Database and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database. Papers in English or Chinese published from inception to 2020 will be included without any restrictions. Improvement in Ocular Surface Disease Index will be assessed as the primary outcomes. Tear break-up time, Schirmer I test, fluorescent, adverse events, and the recurrence rate after at least 3 months of the treatment will be evaluated as secondary outcomes. We will conduct a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trial if possible. The methodological qualities, including the risk of bias, will be evaluated using the Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool, while confidence in the cumulative evidence will be evaluated using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach.

It is not necessary for a formal ethical approval because the data is not individualized. The results of this review will offer implications for the use of Xiaosheng Powder as a treatment for DED. This knowledge will inform recommendations by ophthalmologist and researchers who are interested in the treatment of DED. The findings of this systematic review will be disseminated through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.

Tanreqing injection, as a kind of traditional Chinese medicine injection widely used in clinic, has the effects of clearing heat, reducing phlegm and detoxifying, and avoids the problems of slow effect and complicated decocting of traditional Chinese medicine. Severe pneumonia is a critical disease of the respiratory system, with symptoms such as dyspnea, shortness of breath, high fever, and coma. Clinical studies have found that Tanreqing injection combined with Western medicine has a good effect in the treatment of severe pneumonia. In order to explore the efficacy and safety of Tanreqing injection combined with antibiotics in the treatment of severe pneumonia, we plan to conduct a systematic evaluation and meta-analysis.

Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the treatment of severe pneumonia with Tanreqing injection combined with western medicine were collected by searching PubMed, The Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, CNKI, Wanfang Database, Weipu Database, and China Biomedical Literature Ser17605/OSF.IO/SQDMG.In adolescent patients, cannulated lag screw (CLS) is a widely accepted choice for fixation of the medial epicondylar fracture of the humerus (MEFH). Absorbable implants, including rod, screw, and mini-plate, have been reported in children. However, to the best of our understanding, this study is the first head-to-head comparative study of CLS versus bioabsorbable screw (BS) in the treatment of MEFH.Patients of MEFH operated at our institute, from January 2010 to January 2016, were reviewed retrospectively. The patients were divided into 2 groups, the CLS group and the BS group, as per the type of implant the patient received. The CLS group consisted of 35 patients, whereas the BS group consisted of 30 patients. Demographic data, including sex, age at the time of surgery, operated side, and implant material, were collected from the hospital database. Elbow range of motion (ROM), radiographic manifestation was recorded during the out-patient visit. The elbow joint function was evaluated according to the Broberg and Morrey elbow scale and Mayo elbow performance index score.Thirty patients, including 18 males and 12 females, were included in the CLS group, whereas 35 patients, including 21 males and 14 females, were included in the BS group. At 6-month follow-up, elbow range of motion, Broberg and Morrey elbow scale and Mayo elbow performance index scale showed no significant difference between the 2 groups. The carrying angle was within the normal range in both groups. There was no nonunion or malunion in either group. The rate of hypoplasia or hyperplasia was low in both groups, 3.3% in CLS and 2.9% in BS. The rate of implant prominence was significantly higher in the CLS group (33.3%) than BS (0%).Both CLS and BS are safe and effective choices for displaced MEFH in adolescents. The BS can produce a satisfactory clinical outcome and is comparable to the CLS. Besides, the BS has the advantage of not needing second surgery for implant removal.
