This study proves that environmental surveillance as a means to understand the prevalence of RVA in the population is not only feasible but necessary. NGS based environmental surveillance greatly improves our understanding on RVA genetic diversity, and should be encouraged as a sensitive surveillance tool.Due to massive production, improper use, and disposal of plastics, microplastics have become global environmental pollutants affecting both freshwater and marine ecosystems. Several studies have documented the uptake of microplastics in wild species and the correlated biological effects, such as epithelial damage, inflammation, metabolic alterations, and neurotoxicity. However, the effects of microplastics are not fully understood yet. In this study, adult zebrafish have been exposed for twenty days to two concentrations of a mix of polystyrene and high-density polyethylene microplastics. The biological effects were investigated through the expression levels of a set of selected genes in head kidney samples and two enzymatic biomarkers, acetylcholinesterase and lactate dehydrogenase, in head and body homogenates respectively. The lowest microplastic concentration up-regulated genes involved in xenobiotics catabolic processes (cyp2p8), and adaptive immunity (tcra). Acetylcholinesterase activity was inhibited by the highest microplastics exposure, while a weaker and no significant inhibition was induced by the lowest concentration. No significant effects on lactate dehydrogenase activity were observed. The results presented in this study support the hypothesis that MPs exposure could induce the activation of an immune response and the xenobiotic metabolism, suggesting also that the cytochrome P450 enzyme cyp2p8 and acetylcholinesterase may be sensitive to MPs contamination.Vitellogenin has been regarded as an acceptable indicator for evaluating the endocrine-disrupting property of chemicals using fish. However, the endocrine-disrupting property of chemicals has been rarely evaluated using soil species. This study aimed to find evidence that endocrine-disrupting chemicals (including the natural hormones estradiol and dihydrotestosterone) can affect the reproductive organs of earthworms. Earthworms were exposed to 17β-estradiol, dihydrotestosterone, bisphenol A, and methylparaben for seven days. The four EDCs inhibited normal oogenesis and maturation of oocytes in earthworm ovary, and dihydrotestosterone and bisphenol A were observed to damage earthworm seminal vesicle tissues and inhibit normal spermatogenesis. The evidence showed that the tested EDCs have an adverse effect on female and male reproductive systems of soil invertebrates. Tetrahydropiperine datasheet The results suggest that the evaluations of oogenesis and spermatogenesis in the ovary and seminal vesicles of earthworms are useful indicators for investigating the endocrine-disrupting property of chemicals. Additionally, our results encourage further studies on developing novel indicators using soil invertebrates to evaluate the effects of the toxicity of endocrine-disrupting chemicals on the soil ecosystem.
Guidelines on mammographic surveillance after breast cancer treatment have been disseminated internationally and incorporated into Choosing Wisely recommendations to reduce low-value care. However, adherence within different countries before their publication is unknown.

Low-value mammography, defined as "short-interval" (within 6 months of radiation) or "high-frequency" (>1 within 12 months of radiation), was compared in Medicare fee-for-service in the United States and Ontario, Canada. Women ≥65 years diagnosed with breast cancer who underwent breast-conserving therapy with a minimum of 24 months of follow-up were included (n=19,715 United States; 6479 Ontario). Secondary outcomes were patient and physician characteristics associated with discordance.

Short-interval mammography was higher in the United States than in Ontario (55.9% vs 38.0%, P < .001), as was high-frequency (39.6% vs 7.9%, P < .001). In Ontario, younger age (42% ≥85 vs 58% <74 years, P < .001) and chemotherapy (69% vs 5tes of short-interval mammography in both the United States and Ontario, and high rates of high-frequency mammography in the United States. Further international efforts, such as Choosing Wisely, are needed to reduce low-value mammography.
The anatomic distribution of lower extremity deep venous thrombosis (LEDVT) plays an important role in its prevention and treatment. This study aimed to evaluate the anatomic distribution of hospital-acquired LEDVT (HA-LEDVT) and its probable role in the occurrence of pulmonary embolism (PE).

We retrospectively analyzed the demographic data, ultrasound results, and PE-related findings of inpatients with HA-LEDVT in 28 clinical departments at Peking University People's Hospital between January 1, 2007, and December 31,2018.

This study included 1431 HA-LEDVT events 35.8%, 31%, and 33.3% were left, right, and bilateral LEDVT. Isolated distal, proximal, and blended DVT were detected in 83.4%, 7.3%, and 9.3% of the patients, respectively. The distribution of HA-LEDVT in the left and right lower extremities were not significantly different except in patients aged ≥40years (left 2.07 vs right 1.88 per 1000 extremities, P= .04). For anatomic types of HA-LEDVT, isolated distal HA-LEDVT was 5.02 times more prevaleter thrombus (10.3% vs 4.2%, P<.0001).

HA-LEDVT is characterized by a significantly high percentage of DVT in the muscular calf vein. Muscular calf vein thrombosis may be the primary origin of lower extremity deep vein thrombosis. The diameter of the thrombus in the muscular calf vein may be associated with the occurrence of PE. More prospective studies are needed to more fully determine the natural history of HA-LEDVT and develop prevention and treatment guidelines for HA-LEDVT.
