Labor is a complex process involving multiple para-, auto- and endocrine cascades. The interaction of cortisol, corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) and progesterone is essential. The action of cortisol on the human feto-placental unit is regulated by 11beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 (11β-HSD2/HSD11B2) that converts cortisol into inactive cortisone. The majority of studies on the assessment of placental 11β-HSD2 function determined indirect activity parameters. It remains elusive if indirect measurements correlate with enzymatic function and if these parameters are affected by potential confounders (e.g., mode of delivery). Thus, we compared determinants of indirect 11β-HSD2 tissue activity with its direct enzymatic turnover rate in placental samples from spontaneous births and cesarean (C)-sections.
Using LC-MS/MS, we determined CRH, cortisol, cortisone, progesterone and 17-hydroxy(OH)-progesterone in human term placentas (spontaneous birth vs. C-section, n = 5 each) and measured the enzymatican cohorts for comparative analysis of placental steroids.
To study whether the change of endometrial thickness (EMT) between the day of human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) administration and the day of embryo transfer has any impact on pregnancy outcome in fresh in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI) cycles.
This single-center retrospective cohort study included 2620 patients undergoing their first consecutive autologous IVF/ICSI cycles from January 2003 to December 2012. Patients were categorized into three groups based on the percentage change of post-hCG EMT > 10% decrease, ± 10% plateau and > 10% increase. The primary outcome was live birth rate.
Live birth rates were similar in the EMT decrease, plateau and increase groups (27.4% [174/635], 29.7% [300/1010] and 27.6% [269/975]; P = 0.649). Compared with the plateau group, both EMT decrease (crude odds ratio [cOR] 0.89, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.72-1.11) and increase (cOR 0.90, 95% CI 0.74-1.10) on the day of transfer did not affect the likelihood of live birth. The non-significant association was maintained after controlling for major confounding factors, with the adjusted OR being 0.92 (95% CI 0.73-1.16) and 0.92 (95% CI 0.75-1.13) for the decrease and increase groups, respectively.
EMT change after hCG administration did not provide significant prognostic information for pregnancy outcome in fresh IVF/ICSI cycles. This finding should offer reassuring information for patients with decreased EMT on the day of embryo transfer while questioning the necessity of EMT re-measurement prior to transfer as a routine practice.

Understanding the effect of contraceptive use on high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) positivity may provide information that is valuable to women in contraceptive decision-making. This study includes women aged 30-65years who admitted to Family Planing outpatient clinic and have hrHPVDNA positivity.
We included a total of 801 women. All participants underwent national cervical cancer screening using HPV screening test conducted by the Cancer Control Department of the Ministry of Health. They completed a questionnaire on demographic information and potential risk factors.
The HPV DNA positivity rate among all participants was 8.4%. #link# The two most common HPV genotypes were HPV16 and HPV51. Meanwhile, hrHPV infection was associated with age, marital status, smoking status, and contraceptive method.
HPV is the most common cause of sexually transmitted diseases. Understanding about the reproductive and demographic characteristics affecting HPV persistence is crucial. The effect of contraceptive methods on HPV positivity is important information that is necessary to be relayed to women by healthcare professionals.

Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is the primary medication in the treatment of pregnancy with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) for its efficacy and safety. However, the effect of HCQ on preeclampsia prevention remains controversial.
This study aimed to investigate whether HCQ has an effect on preeclampsia prevention and other pregnancy outcomes among lupus pregnancy.
We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 119 pregnant women with SLE. After the propensity score matching of baseline characteristics, the population was divided into the HCQ treatment group and HCQ nontreatment group. Then, we compared the preeclampsia and other pregnancy outcomes between HCQ treatment and nontreatment groups. Furthermore, we combined our data and previous studies for a meta-analysis.
In our data, HCQ did not increase the risk of premature rupture of membranes, bleeding during pregnancy, preeclampsia, intrauterine distress, gestational age at delivery, preterm birth, and postpartum hemorrhage. There was no significant association between HCQ treatment and preeclampsia prevention. Besides, the meta-analysis showed a similar result that HCQ did not significantly decrease the rate of preeclampsia (RR = 0.61, 95%CI = 0.34-1.11).
This study found that HCQ treatment was safe, but did not significantly reduce preeclampsia among lupus pregnancies.

Besides psychosocial interventions, current guidelines recommend a therapy with methylphenidate (MPH). This prospective, non-interventional study aims to investigate the efficacy and tolerability of MPH treatment of adult ADHD patients in a real-world setting. 468 adult patients with newly diagnosed ADHD were observed for 12-14 weeks. Primary efficacy endpoint was the clinical global impression (CGI) by the physician. Secondary endpoints comprise patient evaluation (Wender-Reimherr self-report, WR-SR), safety, tolerability, and dosage of MPH. With a mean daily dose of 35.8 (±17.0) mg MPH, the population of patients being severely/most extremely ill or markedly ill decreased by 64% and 61%, respectively. According to physicians' assessment (CGI), 74.5% of patients were identified as treatment responders. The total score of patient-based assessment (WR-SR) improved by 23.5% (50.1 ± 40.3 points) with the most profound improvement in attention deficit (-30.
