The phytopathogen Pantoea stewartii subsp. indologenes causes Stewart's wilt disease in lucky bamboo. Here, we report the complete genome of P. stewartii subsp. indologenes ZJ-FGZX1, which represents the first whole-genome sequence of an isolate from China. The assembled genome consisted of three contigs, with one circular chromosome of 4,550,072 bp and two circular plasmids of 326,337 and 106,454 bp. The complete genome will provide a valuable resource for further studies on bacterial blight worldwide.
Pharmacogenomic (PGx) testing has the potential to provide information on specific drug-metabolizing enzymes that may lead to an absence, reduction, or increase in medication effect in patients. There is a paucity of prospective studies examining PGx testing in the intensive care unit (ICU) setting.
To (1) obtain a PGx panel in a sample of cardiovascular (CV) surgical patients with a planned ICU stay and identify phenotypes, and (2) identify PGx variants that may inform treatment regimens and may warrant prescribing adjustments.
Descriptive, single cohort cross-sectional design. Adult (≥18 years) CV patients with an anticipated postoperative ICU stay were enrolled from a large Midwestern tertiary academic medical center. Eligible patients provided informed consent at the time of their CV clinic appointment; PGx testing was then ordered. Pharmacogenomic testing consisted of the Focused Pharmacogenomics panel which included 10 genes and 55 medications.
Of the 272 patients screened, 100 (68% male) patien portion of patients had identified genetic variants that may warrant changes in medication management during and after CV-ICU stay. It remains to be seen if PGx testing leads to improvements in ICU patient outcomes.Using data from the National Violent Death Reporting System (2003-2014), this study examined the characteristics and contributing circumstances of suicides in correctional facilities. #link# χ2 and logistic regression analyses revealed that, compared to nonincarcerated suicide decedents, incarcerated suicide decedents had significantly lower odds of positive toxicology for substances but significantly higher odds of substance abuse problems. Descriptive subanalyses indicated that incarcerated suicide decedents often were incarcerated for personal crimes. They often died ≤ 1 week of incarceration, in a cell (frequently single-person or segregation), by hanging, using bedding material. Positive toxicology was more common for incarcerated decedents who died shortly after versus later in their incarceration. Findings highlight the need for enhanced detection and treatment of suicidal behavior, especially during early and vulnerable periods of incarceration. Objective The role of pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) is still debated in patients with N3 stage penile cancer. In Denmark this subgroup of patients is in general managed with an inguinal lymphadenectomy (ILND) and adjuvant chemoradiation and PLND is not offered as a standard. The objective of this study was to report treatment outcomes of this regimen and compare this with existing literature.Materials and methods We retrospectively reviewed records of patients with pT1-T4, N3, M0 penile cancer diagnosed between 1st January 2010 and 31th December 2014 in Denmark and treated with curative intend. Results 21 patients were identified with a median follow up of 74 months (CI 54-94). Management of the penile lesion was local resection in 5 (23.8%), partial penectomy in 10 (47.6%), and total penectomy in 6 (28.6%) of patients. Regarding the most extensive lymph node (LN) surgery 4 patients (23,8%) went directly to oncological treatment from sentinel node biopsy with no further LN dissection, 6 patients (28.6%) were treated with unilateral ILND, 10 patients (47.6%) with bilateral ILND and a single patient (4.8%) was treated with ILND and PLND. In the adjuvant setting patients were treated with external beam therapy of involved regions and cisplatin-based chemotherapy. Median overall survival was 84 months (CI 0-176). The 5-year probability of surviving penile cancer was 57.1% (CI 36.0-78.3).Conclusion Treatment with surgery and chemo-irradiation in this national cohort does not show inferior survival outcomes compared to historical cohorts.Diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) are one of the most devastating complications of diabetes as they have significant effects on patient morbidity and mortality. Since their first description in the 19th century, our understanding of DFU has evolved as we uncover the mechanisms that mediate ulceration. In this review, we aim to summarize the various pathways that lead to the development of DFU in order to reappraise physicians' understanding of these complex wounds. Elafibranor nmr include the following (1) neuropathy (motor neuropathy, loss of protective sensation, and autonomic sympathetic dysfunction), (2) vascular disease (arterial ischemia, venous insufficiency, and microvascular changes), and (3) metabolism (signaling and immunological effects of hyperglycemia). We also discuss the clinical presentation of DFU and an evidence-based evaluation to assist clinicians in early identification and classification of these wounds to inform management of DFU. Finally, we summarize complications of DFU caused by the various pathways mediating ulceration and briefly overview DFU management in order to educate physicians about the potential risks if left untreated. A better understanding of the synergistic pathways leading to DFU is essential for clinicians to improve DFU diagnosis, tailor intervention, and mitigate significant patient morbidity and mortality.Hostility toward women is an established risk factor for sexual violence and is often found to be present in men prone to sexual transgression. There are also clinical indications that high-risk rapists may have more ambivalent attitudes toward women, including the strong desire to be positively evaluated by women. We investigated attitudes toward women in high-risk male rapists (n = 42), nonsexual male offenders (n = 65), and matched male community controls (n = 42), by means of self-report (hostility toward women, benevolent sexism, hostile sexism) and implicit measures assessing associations (Implicit Association Test [IAT]) with "women are deceitful" and "women are prestige objects," and the approach tendency (Approach-Avoidance Task [AAT]) toward women. Results showed that high-risk rapists had a lesser implicit notion of women as deceitful and more explicit benevolent sexism than the community controls. These differences seemed most prevalent in the subgroup of high-risk rapists without any relationship history.
