While this study demonstrates the potential use of tissue-specific microRNAs in verifying tissues in dietary supplements, more research is needed to evaluate the specificity of these markers.Eosinophilic fasciitis (EF) is an uncommon autoimmune connective tissue disorder characterized by edema, erythema, and subsequent induration of the extremities. It is commonly treated with corticosteroids but there is no treatment ladder for immunosuppressants or steroid-sparing agents. We report two EF cases treated effectively with mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) or mycophenolic acid (MPA) and present a literature review. We performed a MEDLINE search using the keywords 'eosinophilic fasciitis', 'Shulman syndrome', 'mycophenolic acid', or 'mofetil mycophenolate', and found 8 articles with 27 cases in which MMF or MPA was used. Twenty-nine cases were reviewed (2 reported herein and 27 from the literature search); all patients received a combination of systemic corticosteroids and MMF. MMF/MPA were given as a steroid-sparing agent in 27 (93.1%), in 1 (3.4%) as adjunctive therapy with other immunosuppressants, and in one, as monotherapy 1 (3.4%). Nineteen had a complete response, 6, a partial response, and 2 were unresponsive to diverse immunomodulators; in 2 cases, the outcome was not reported. MMF and MPA show promising therapeutic results and could be a treatment option to reduce corticosteroid related side effects.Inorganic anions inhibit the metalloenzyme carbonic anhydrase (CA, EC 4.2.1.1) generally by coordinating to the active site metal ion. Cyanate was reported as a non-coordinating CA inhibitor but those erroneous results were subsequently corrected by another group. We review the anion CA inhibitors (CAIs) in the more general context of drug design studies and the discovery of a large number of inhibitor classes and inhibition mechanisms, including zinc binders (sulphonamides and isosteres, dithiocabamates and isosteres, thiols, selenols, benzoxaboroles, ninhydrins, etc.); inhibitors anchoring to the zinc-coordinated water molecule (phenols, polyamines, sulfocoumarins, thioxocoumarins, catechols); CAIs occluding the entrance to the active site (coumarins and derivatives, lacosamide), as well as compounds that bind outside the active site. All these new chemotypes integrated with a general procedure for obtaining isoform-selective compounds (the tail approach) has resulted, through the guidance of rigorous X-ray crystallography experiments, in the development of highly selective CAIs for all human CA isoforms with many pharmacological applications.
Australia introduced 'lockdown' measures to control COVID-19 on 22 March 2020 which continued for a period of two months. We aimed to investigate the impact this had on sexual and reproductive health (SRH).

Australians aged 18+ were eligible to participate in an online survey from 23 April to 11 May 2020. We report on the experiences of 518 female participants aged <50 years. Pregnancy intentions and contraceptive use were analysed using descriptive statistics. click here Odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals were calculated to investigate difficulty accessing SRH products and services. Qualitative data were analysed using conventional content analysis.

Most participants were aged 18-24 years, and indicated they were trying to avoid pregnancy. The oral contraceptive pill was the most common single method used however nearly 20% reported they were not using contraception. Women who were employed had less trouble accessing contraception during lockdown. Participants reported delaying childbearing or deciding to remain childfree due to COVID-19.

We need new pharmacotherapies for the management of AUD.Areas covered In this review, the authors aim to synthesise literature for new approved and emerging pharmacotherapies for AUD. Recently approved medications include nalmefene, which was approved in Europe and Australia for the purposes of controlled drinking. Baclofen has also been approved in France but not in other countries. Off label medications including topiramate and gabapentin have received significant attention with multiple RCTs and meta-analyses and have widespread use in several countries including the USA. Several novel medications have emerged over the last decade but further work is required to determine their efficacy and safety for the widespread management of AUD.Expert opinion Despite significant advances in our understanding of the neurobiological basis of factors that contribute to the development and maintenance of AUD, there have been few new AUD medications approved for almost 20 years. There are many challenges to the development and introduction of new pharmacotherapies for AUD. Strategies for improving the translational pipeline include drug repurposing and utilisation of human acute laboratory models.
Induced abortion is highly restricted in Iran and many married women with unintended pregnancies resort to clandestine procedures, resulting in adverse health outcomes. As there is a lack of reliable data on abortion in Iran, this study aimed to examine factors predisposing women to practise abortion, factors facilitating the use of abortion and factors determining women's 'need' to use abortion to control their number of children.

The study used data from the 2014 Tehran Survey of Fertility, conducted among 3012 married women aged 15-49 years. Bivariate and multivariate binary logistic regression analyses were used.

About 6% of women reported that they had had an abortion. The proportion was higher among women who were in their later reproductive years, women who were employed, women who intended to continue their education, women who reported a low level of religiosity, women who had two children and women who wanted no/no more children. Multivariate analysis showed that abortion was twice as high among women who had conceived their most recent birth because of the failure of a modern contraceptive method, compared with women who had discontinued or did not use a contraceptive method.
