A study on the crystal structure of monoclinic HfO2 has been performed using synchrotron X-ray and neutron diffraction data separately, as well as a combination of both. The precision of the structural parameters increases significantly due to application of the neutron diffraction technique. The experimental oxygen positions in HfO2, derived precisely, are visualized only by semi-local density functional calculations in terms of the calculated electronic band gap, but are not captured as accurately by using hybrid functionals. Two new CdII MOFs, namely, two-dimensional (2D) poly[[[μ2-1,4-bis(1H-benzimidazol-1-yl)butane](μ2-heptanedioato)cadmium(II)] tetrahydrate], [Cd(C7H10O4)(C18H18N4)]·4H2On or [Cd(Pim)(bbimb)]·4H2On (1), and 2D poly[diaqua[μ2-1,4-bis(1H-benzimidazol-1-yl)butane](μ4-decanedioato)(μ2-decanedioato)dicadmium(II)], [Cd2(C10H16O4)2(C18H18N4)(H2O)2]n or [Cd(Seb)(bbimb)0.5(H2O)]n (2), have been synthesized hydrothermally based on the 1,4-bis(1H-benzimidazol-1-yl)butane (bbimb) and pimelate (Pim2-, heptanedioate) or sebacate (Seb2-, decanedioate) ligands. Both MOFs were structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In 1, the CdII centres are connected by bbimb and Pim2- ligands to generate a 2D sql layer structure with an octameric (H2O)8 water cluster. The 2D layers are further connected by O-H...O hydrogen bonds, resulting in a three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular structure. In 2, the CdII centres are coordinated by Seb2- ligands to form binuclear Cd2 units which are linked by bbimb and Seb2- ligands into a 2D hxl layer. The 2D layers are further connected by O-H...O hydrogen bonds, leading to an 8-connected 3D hex supramolecular network. IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and solid-state photoluminescence analysis were carried out on both MOFs. Luminescence sensing experiments reveal that both MOFs have good selective sensing towards Fe3+ in aqueous solution.Bedaquiline [systematic name 1-(6-bromo-2-methoxyquinolin-3-yl)-4-(dimethylamino)-2-(naphthalen-1-yl)-1-phenylbutan-2-ol, C32H31BrN2O2] is one of two important new drugs for the treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB). It is marketed in the US as its fumarate salt systematic name [4-(6-bromo-2-methoxyquinolin-3-yl)-3-hydroxy-3-(naphthalen-1-yl)-4-phenylbutyl]dimethylazanium 3-carboxyprop-2-enoate, C32H32BrN2O2+·C4H3O4-, and about a dozen other salts of bedaquiline have been described in patent literature, but none have so far been structurally described. CC4047 In a first communication, we present the crystal structure of bedaquilinium fumarate and of two new benzoate salts, as well as that of a degradation product of the reaction of bedaquilinium fumarate with sodium ethoxide, 3-benzyl-6-bromo-2-methoxyquinoline, C17H14BrNO. The fumarate and benzoate salts both feature cations monoprotonated at the dimethylamino group. The much less basic quinoline N atom remains unprotonated. Both salts feature a 11 cationnd (for the benzoate salt) water molecules. The benzoate salt was isolated in two forms as a 1.17-hydrate (C32H32BrN2O2+·C7H5O2-·1.166H2O), obtained from acetone or propanol solution, with one fully occupied water molecule tightly integrated into the hydrogen-bonding network of anions and cations, and one partially occupied water molecule [refined occupancy 16.6 (7)%], only loosely hydrogen bonded to the quinoline N atom. The second form is an acetonitrile solvate (C32H32BrN2O2+·C7H5O2-·0.742CH3CN·H2O), in which the partially occupied water molecule is replaced by a 74.2 (7)%-occupied acetonitrile molecule. The partial occupancy induces disorder for the benzoate phenyl ring. The acetonitrile solvate is unstable in atmosphere and converts into a form not distinguishable by powder XRD from the 1.17-hydrate.A novel complex has been prepared using the (E)-4-nitro-N-(pyridin-2-ylmethylidene)aniline bidentate Schiff base ligand and PtCl2, namely, dichlorido[(E)-4-nitro-N-(pyridin-2-ylmethylidene)aniline-κ2N,N']platinum(II) acetonitrile hemisolvate, [PtCl2(C12H9N3O2)]·0.5CH3CN, 1. According to the X-ray measurements of the crystal structure, the PtII ion adopts a PtCl2N2 square-planar coordination. The coordination of the Schiff base ligand to the PtII ion occurs in a cyclic bidentate fashion, as a result of which a five-membered metallacycle is formed. Furthermore, in the structure of 1, the neutral molecules form a one-dimensional chain structure through C-H...Cl and C-H...O hydrogen bonds. The characterization of the complex was performed via single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy and elemental analysis, and the antioxidant activity of the complex was evaluated using spectrophotometry by the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method.A new polymorph of (E)-4-bromo-2-[(phenylimino)methyl]phenol, C13H10BrNO, is reported, together with a low-temperature structure determination of the previously published polymorph. Both polymorphs were found to have an intramolecular O-H...N hydrogen bond between the phenol OH group and the imine N atom, forming an S(6) ring. The crystals were observed to have different colours at room temperature, with the previously published polymorph being more orange and the new polymorph more yellow. The planarity of the molecule in the two polymorphs was found to be significantly different, with dihedral angles (Φ) between the two aromatic rings for the previously published `orange' polymorph of Φ = 1.8 (2)° at 120 K, while the new `yellow' polymorph had Φ = 45.6 (1)° at 150 K. It was also observed that both polymorphs displayed some degree of thermochromism and upon cooling the `orange' polymorph became more yellow, while the `yellow' polymorph became paler upon cooling. An adult male was found to have a variation of the left basal vein of Rosenthal after presenting with complaints of headache and balance issues. In this case, the vein drained directly into the left superior petrosal sinus (SPS) instead of the great vein of Galen. Anatomical variation of the basal vein is likely due to embryonic development of the deep cerebral venous system as primitive structures either differentiate regress or further with age. These changes may result in the uncommon presentation seen in this case. To our knowledge, this is the first case that shows the basal vein drains into the SPS. The normal and variant anatomy of this vessel are discussed.
