The increasing number of cancer diagnoses and deaths underlines the importance of supportive and palliative care. It is defined as "all the care and the support necessary for patients throughout their illness."

To evaluate the current status of the supportive and palliative care organization in Belgium.

The Belgian Society of Medical Oncology (BSMO) supportive care task force conducted an observational study by sending a 31-point questionnaire to medical doctors responsible for the supportive care units of university, public, or private hospitals in Belgium.

Thirty centers completed the questionnaire, of which 12 were university hospitals. Inpatient supportive care units are available in more than 50% of the centers, whereas outpatient supportive care is less available in Brussels than in Flanders and Wallonia. Multidisciplinary teams or specific units dedicated exclusively to supportive care are represented less frequently in all 3 areas of Belgium. Intensive care units for cancer patients are even srch in the area of supportive and palliative care.
People with brain cancer and their support persons (SPs) are critical sources of information on the components of care that contribute to psychosocial outcomes.

To determine the proportion of studies that examined (1) at least one of 14 nominated components of psychosocial cancer care and (2) more than one component of care.

Medline, The Cochrane Library, PsycINFO and Embase were electronically searched for publications from January 1999 to December 2019. MEK inhibitor cancer Publications that met the inclusion criteria were coded according to the number and type of psychosocial care components assessed from 14 listed components, and whether patient and/or SPs' views about care were elicited.

Of the 113 included publications, 61 publications included patient-reported data only (54%), 27 included both patient and SP-reported data (24%) and 25 included SP-reported data only (22%). Most assessed a single component of care (77% of patient-reported and 71% of SP-reported). No publications assessed all 14 components. The "Psychosocial" component was the most frequently assessed component of care for patient-reported (n = 80/88, 91%) and SP-reported publications (n = 46/52, 88%).

Publications reporting on psychosocial care in brain cancer present a relatively narrow view of patient and support person experiences. The inclusion of both patient and support person perspectives and the assessment of multiple components of care are required in future research to optimize psychosocial outcomes in brain cancer.

To explore strategies rural Australians use to cope with the financial consequences of their cancer diagnosis and how that impacts on their lives.

Twenty adult cancer patients/survivors residing in regional-remote areas of Australia were purposively sampled and participated in audio-recorded, semi-structured interviews. When data saturation was reached, thematic analysis was employed to analyse the data.

Participants were 20-78 years (M=60), 70% female, 35% were undergoing treatment and the remaining 65% had finished treatment within the past 5 years. Three themes provide context to rural financial toxicity-related experiences (travelling to access cancer treatment away from home is expensive, being single or lacking family support exacerbates the financial strain, and no choice other than to adopt cost-saving strategies if wanted to access treatment). Strategies commonly employed to minimise financial toxicity include accessing travel-related support, changes to lifestyle (buying cheaper food, saving on utilities), accessing savings and retirement funds, missing holidays and social activities, reduced car use and not taking a companion to cancer-related appointments at metropolitan treatment areas. Although cost-saving strategies can effectively increase the ability of rural people to cover cancer treatment-related and other costs, most have broader negative psychological, social and practical consequences for them and their families.

Increasing rural cancer patients' and survivors' awareness of various cost-saving strategies and their impact (positive and negative) may decrease their risk of experiencing financial toxicity and unexpected unintended consequences of adopting cost-saving measures.

Delineating the fine architecture of projection neuron subsets in a specific brain region could greatly facilitate its circuit, computational, and functional resolution. Here, we developed multiple fluorescent rabies viruses (RV) to delineate the fine organization of corticothalamic projection neuron subsets in the primary visual cortex (V1). By simultaneously retrograde labeling multiple distinct subsets of corticothalamic projection neurons in V1 from their target nuclei in thalamus (dLGN, LP, LD), we observed that V1-dLGN corticothalamic projection neurons were densely concentrated in layer VI, except for several sparsely scattered neurons in layer V, while V1-LP and V1-LD corticothalamic projection neurons were localized to both layers V and VI. Meanwhile, we observed a fraction of V1 corticothalamic projection neurons targeting two thalamic nuclei, which was further confirmed by fMOST whole-brain imaging. The multiple fluorescent RV tracing tools can be extensively applied to resolve the architecture of projection neuron subsets in certain brain regions, with a strong potential to delineate the computational and functional organization of these brain regions.
