Increased soil salt concentration decreases productivity and changes the physiological and chemical properties of plants. Various omics technologies have been used to understand the salt response in plants but overall changes in the metabolite profiles of spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) under salt stress have not been studied. In this article, therefore, the changes in mineral and metabolite profiles of spinach plants cultivated with different NaCl concentrations of 0-200 mmol L
in the irrigation water were analyzed to investigate the effect of salt stress on nutritional quality.

Increasing NaCl concentration decreased plant growth due to mineral imbalance. The amounts of minerals (K
, Ca
, and Fe
) were reduced with increasing NaCl concentration, resulting in altered ratios of Na
K
and Na
Ca
. The change in the mineral ratios due to NaCl irrigation led to a decrease in the height and an increase in the weight of spinach. Moreover, the profiles of 32 metabolites, including flavonoids, aminoy affects the nutritional quality of spinach. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.
Headache mobile health (mHealth) applications (apps) have gained popularity in use but there is little research into what people with migraine find important to track. This information is important for helping with adherence and determining meaningful data to patients. We conducted several clinical trials using a headache research app (RELAXaHEAD). The app contains a "notes" feature (a free-text input section) where patients could record notes related to their headache.

To identify what patients view as important when tracking migraine/headaches within a headache tracking mHealth app.

This was a retrospective study where smartphone diary notes inputted by people with migraine were qualitatively analyzed; notes were extracted, a preliminary codebook was developed and used to code each note. Using grounded theory, themes and subthemes emerged.

About 288 subjects in the trials used the notes function. There were 5364 total notes with an average of 18.6±39.2 notes/user. The qualitative analysis yielded 75 the RELAXaHEAD app was designed with features to extract data that would be useful to physicians and patients in treating migraine, our study results indicated that users also prefer a range of tracking capabilities that may or may not be useful to physicians but may be important for headache smartphone user engagement.Case 1 An 18-year-old man. On initial examination, he was diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) due to optic papillitis. He had no previous systemic and ocular medical history. His best corrected visual acuity was 20/20 for the right eye, but macular edema accompanied by serous retinal detachment was observed about 2 months after the initial examination. Intravitreal anti-VEGF injection was performed, and the symptoms improved. Then, additional photocoagulation was applied to the retinal nonperfusion area, to maintain its normal state. Case 2 A 36-year-old man. He was diagnosed with neovascular glaucoma associated with CRVO in the right eye by his previous physician. Panretinal photocoagulation and intravitreal anti-VEGF injection were performed under maximum-tolerated medical therapy for the right eye. He had diabetes. On initial examination, his visual acuity was 20/100 and his intraocular pressure was 19mmHg. Macular edema and iris neovascularization recurred half a year later, so intravitreal anti-VEGF injection and additional photocoagulation were applied to nonperfusion area. After that, both macular edema and iris neovascularization have settled down. Conclusions Intravitreal anti-VEGF injection is effective in young patients with CRVO. Also, photocoagulation to nonperfusion area in addition to the continuous treatment with intravitreal anti-VEGF injection seems effective for preventing recurrence.
We generated induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells from a patient with distal myopathy with rimmed vacuoles (DMRV), in which sialic acids synthesis is reported to be defective. In this study, we examined whether the differentiation to retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells and autophagy was affected in the patient derived cells.

Patient derived iPS cells were established through the transduction of re-programming factors into peripheral mononuclear cells via retrovirus vectors. RPE cells were induced from iPS cells through aggregation culture. Then the autophagy induced by amino acid starvation was estimated by measuring LC3-containing "puncta" structure.

A 3D aggregate culture of patient-derived iPS cells resulted in some irregular shapes, and the aggregate contained large vacuoles filled with lipid droplets and cellular components such as damaged mitochondria. RPE cells induced from patient-derived iPS cells showed impaired autophagy flux under amino acid starvation.

These findings were similar to those of sialidosis patient-derived iPS cells, in which cleavage of terminal sialic acids in oligosaccharide chains is defective. This suggests that the control of both the addition and removal of sialic acids are pivotal for autophagy progression.

Sclerosing angiomatoid nodular transformation (SANT) of the spleen is a non-tumorous benign lesion that originates in the spleen and It is rare.

A 59-year-old man visited his physician for a checkup. Ultrasonography showed a mass in the spleen, and the patient was referred to our hospital. He tested negative for tumor markers and soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL-2R). Abdominal computed tomography revealed a 51-mm hypovascular mass that was slowly enhanced from the portal venous to the equilibrium phases, at the inferior extremity of the spleen. SGI-1027 order Abdominal magnetic resonance imaging showed a spoke-wheel pattern. Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography indicated a mild tumor accumulation, with a standardized uptake value max of 5.3. These results led to the suspicion of SANT, angioma, and angiosarcoma. Because the onset of malignant diseases could not be excluded, laparoscopic splenectomy was performed. A brown, round mass, without a capsule but with clear boundaries, was macroscopically observed on the cut surface.
