Accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity improved with each modification to the EHR-STAMP. The final version of the EHR-STAMP found 85% accuracy, 89% sensitivity, and 97% specificity, with a positive predictive value of 60% and a negative predictive value of 94%.
The EHR-STAMP is a highly reliable tool in the screening of nutrition risk for pediatric hospitalized patients. The tool is easy to use, EHR compatible, and incorporates the current indicators recommended for assessing pediatric malnutrition.

In our device, the track-etched membrane is integrated within a low-cost polymer-film microfluidic chip, and multiplex microfiltration chambers are designed. see more Our device permits the performing of multiple sample tests on a single membrane and the dynamical observation of the entire filtration process in a single field of view. To characterize the device performance, our device is first tested using tumor cells, and three different cell behaviors are observed during the filtration process. Finally, we successfully apply our device for the separation of rare tumor cells from the lysed blood samples at various flow rates. The recovery rates of 93.3, 87.6, and 84.1% can be respectively achieved at the throughputs of 50, 100, and 150 μL/min. Our single-view field filter (SVFF) device offers the advantages of label-free filtration, efficient enumeration, easy integration, and low cost, and holds the potential to be used as an efficient tool for the filtration and enumeration of rare cells.
Nutritional intervention with the use of phytochemicals is an important method for the treatment and prevention of a metabolic syndrome. The objective of this study was to chemically characterize Moro orange juice. The influence of juice intake on metabolic parameters of rats that were obese, diabetic or both by means of body mass management after the activation of anthocyanins during refrigerated storage was also assessed.
Juice intake reversed most of the metabolic abnormalities exhibited by obese rats, including reduction of body mass and improvement of the biochemical profile. The loss of body mass by diabetic animals and obese and diabetic animals was not attributed to juice intake, but to type I diabetes mellitus. In these animals, no improvement was observed in the biochemical profile, liver enzymes and glycemia, so this treatment model was deemed unfeasible.
The beneficial effects cannot be explained only by the anthocyanin C3G present in the juice, but rather, by the synergism between all the components. Studies in humans are needed to determine whether the ingestion of this orange can be recommended as an effective strategy to prevent or ameliorate complications of obesity. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.

To determine IQ at 26 to 30 years in very-low-birthweight (VLBW) adults compared with term-born controls; and to examine the stability of IQ in VLBW individuals between 7 to 8 years and 26 to 30 years, identify perinatal and social predictors of IQ, and assess the contribution of brain volume to IQ.
At 26 to 30 years, 229 VLBW adults (71% survivors of prospectively enrolled national cohort) and 100 term-born controls were tested on the Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence. For VLBW, IQ at 7 to 8 years, perinatal and social data were extracted from the data set, and 150 adults underwent volumetric cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
At 26 to 30 years, the mean adjusted difference between VLBW and controls for total IQ was 9.4 (95% CI 6.5-12.4) points. In VLBW individuals the correlation between IQ scores at 7 to 8 years and 26 to 30 years was 0.78. On multiple regression analysis, parental education was the strongest predictor of verbal and total IQ at both ages. Birthweight was a strong predictor of perceptual and total IQ. In VLBW individuals with MRI scans, the addition of brain volume as a variable increased the variance explained for perceptual and total IQ.
VLBW adults have mean IQ scores 9 to 11 points below controls. Parental education and birthweight are the strongest predictors of IQ.

Use of NK cells and NK cell lines as carriers of chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) appears particularly promising, as this opens an opportunity for moving the therapy from autologous to the allogeneic (universal) format. This "off-the-shelf" approach is thought to significantly reduce the price of the treatment and make it available to many more patients in need. Yet, the efficacy of CAR-NK cells in vivo presently remains low, and boosting the activity of CAR NK cells via stronger tumor homing, resistance to tumor microenvironment, as well as greater cytotoxicity may translate into improved patient outcomes. Here, we established a derivative of a human NK cell line YT overexpressing a positive regulator of cytotoxicity, VAV1. Activity of YT-VAV1 cells obtained was assayed in vitro against several cancer cell lines and primary patient-derived cancer cells. YT-VAV1 cells outperform parental YT cells in terms of cytotoxicity. To what extent the speed of mutational production of phenotypic variation determines the rate of long-term phenotypic evolution is a central question. Houle et al. recently addressed this question by studying the mutational variances, additive genetic variances, and macroevolution of locations of vein intersections on fly wings, reporting very slow phenotypic evolution relative to the rates of mutational input, high phylogenetic signals, and a strong, linear relationship between the mutational variance of a trait and its rate of evolution. Houle et al. found no existing model of phenotypic evolution to be consistent with all these observations, and proposed the improbable scenario of equal influence of mutational pleiotropy on all traits. Here, we demonstrate that the purported linear relationship between mutational variance and evolutionary divergence is artifactual. We further show that the data are explainable by a simple model in which the wing traits are effectively neutral at least within a range of phenotypic values but their evolutionary rates are differentially reduced because mutations affecting these traits are purged owing to their different pleiotropic effects on other traits that are under stabilizing selection.
