ligious beliefs still prevail. Results should be interpreted with caution given the unequal distribution of men and women, social desirability and volunteer biases, and the specific COVID-19 pandemic context during which the survey took place. Markers of sexual conservatism were inversely related to sexual function and satisfaction, mainly in women, and may, therefore, be important targets of treatment. Rapamycin Female sexuality seemed more context-dependent than male sexuality, although enhancing the general climate of the relationship may benefit feeling sexually satisfied in both men and women. It has been shown that humans adapt their postural sway to oscillatory, visually simulated self-motion. However, little is still known about the way individual body segments contribute to this adjustment of body sway and how this contribution varies with different environmental conditions.
How do the centre of pressure (COP) and individual body segments phase-lock to a sinusoidal visual drive depending on the frequency of stimulation?
In this study, we introduce phase coupling as a method for assessing full body motion in response to visual stimuli presented in virtual reality (VR). 12 participants (mean age 31 ± 9 years) stood inside a virtual tunnel which oscillated sinusoidally in the anterior-posterior direction at a frequency of 0.2 Hz, 0.8 Hz or 1.2 Hz. Primary outcome measures were the trajectories of their COP as well as of 25 body segments obtained by a motion tracking system.
Subjects significantly coupled the phase of their COP and body segments to the visual drive. Our analysis yielded sigcal trials.
Reduced quadriceps function and proprioception can cause decreased mobility during stair navigation in patients with knee pain. Patients can benefit from interventions to mitigate pain and restore quadriceps function. Activating the somatosensory system via intermittent vibrational stimulation has the potential to improve stair navigation mobility in patients with knee pain by moderating quadriceps inhibition and enhancing proprioception.
What are the effects of intermittent vibrational stimulus synchronized to stair ambulation on muscle activity, kinematics, kinetics, and pain using a randomized controlled clinical trial design.
Thirty-eight patients with knee pain were enrolled into a blinded cross-over study, and twenty-nine patients completed all assessments and analyses. Subjects were randomly assigned sequentially to both an active Treatment A (active) and passive Treatment B (passive) worn at the knee during ambulation for 4 weeks with a 2-week washout period between treatments.
Knee pain durindriceps function during stair ascent and improving movement control during stair descent by modifying an adaptive flexed movement pattern in the lower limb.
The results of this study suggest that intermittent vibration can improve joint motion and loading during stair navigation by enhancing quadriceps function during stair ascent and improving movement control during stair descent by modifying an adaptive flexed movement pattern in the lower limb.
This study explores the chemical composition and surface aspects of fossilized dental calculus from the South American Quaternary proboscidean Notiomastodon platensis and the first record of fossilized oral bacteria from extinct megafauna.
Blocks of dental calculus removed from the third molar of five specimens of Notiomastodon platensis collected from Brazil, Argentina, and Ecuador.
We analyzed five samples of dental calculus by SEM and SEM-EDS, following a rigid protocol to avoid bacterial contamination.
The dental calculus surface is homogeneous, porous, with various crystals, and composed mainly by oxygen and calcium. One sample revealed a well-preserved mineralized biofilm, with several rods and cocci bacteria.
This is the first fossilized record of oral bacterial communities associated with extinct proboscideans.
This record confirms the parasitism between oral bacteria and Notiomastodon platensis and will enable the study of paleogenomic aspects of oral microbiota of proboscideans.
Fossilization conditions of proboscidean teeth with dental calculus are variable among specimens. Although rare, the preservation of oral bacteria is expected because of the oral biofilm composition.

We evaluated the effect of OA on the stress response of the limpet Nacella concinna by measuring gene expression levels. The experiment was performed with the two ecotypes (Littoral and Sublittoral) of the species during 54 days (IPCC, 2019 scenario RCP8.5; control, ~375 ppm; low-pH treatment, ~923 ppm). Exposure to low-pH treatment during 15 days triggered the down-regulation of two heat-shock protein genes (HSP70A, HSP70B) only in sublittoral individuals. Little variation in the relative expression values of all genes in both ecotypes was observed probably, due to a historical exposure to the substantial daily natural pH fluctuations recorded in the study area during the experiment. This study provides relevant baseline data for future OA experiments on coastal species in Antarctica.Indicators of oxidative stress and metabolic capacity are key factors in understanding the fitness of wild populations. In the present study, these factors were evaluated in the pelagic Southern Ocean taxa Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) and myctophid fish (Electrona antarctica, Gymnoscopelus braueri and G. nicholsi) to establish a baseline record for future studies. Mercury (Hg) concentrations were also analysed to evaluate its potential impacts on species biochemical performance. E. superba had higher metabolic activity than most of the myctophid species, which may explain the comparatively lower energy reserves found in the former. The activity of antioxidant enzymes showed, generally, a lower level in E. superba than in the myctophid species. The lack of any relationship between Hg concentrations and organisms' antioxidant and biotransformation defence mechanisms indicate that levels of Hg accumulated in the studied species were not high enough to affect their biochemical processes adversely.
