Comparison regarding Sea salt Lactate Infusion along with Co2 Breathing in Stress Provocation Tests: A new Meta-analysis.
Archaea remain important players in global biogeochemical cycles worldwide, including in the highly productive mangrove estuarine ecosystems. In the present study, we have explored the diversity, distribution, and function of the metabolically active fraction of the resident archaeal community of the Sundarban mangrove ecosystem, using both culture-independent and culture-dependent approaches. To evaluate the diversity and distribution pattern of the active archaeal communities, RNA based analysis of the 16S rRNA gene was performed on an Illumina platform. The active Crenarchaeal community was observed to remain constant while active Euryarchaeal community underwent considerable change across the sampling sites depending on varying anthropogenic factors. Haloarchaea were the predominant group in hydrocarbon polluted sediments, leading us to successfully isolate eleven p-hydroxybenzoic acid degrading haloarchaeal species. The isolates could also survive in benzoic acid, naphthalene, and o-phthalate. Quantitative estimation of p-hydroxybenzoic acid degradation was studied on select isolates, and their ability to reduce COD of polluted saline waters of Sundarban was also evaluated. MPP+ iodide manufacturer To our knowledge, this is the first ever study combining culture-independent (Next Generation sequencing and metatranscriptome) and culture-dependent analyses for an assessment of archaeal function in the sediment of Sundarban. Arsenic (As) is a serious threat for environment and human health. Rice, the main staple crop is more prone to As uptake. Bioremediation strategies with heavy metal tolerant rhizobacteria are well known. The main objective of the study was to characterize arsenic-resistant yeast strains, capable of mitigating arsenic stress in rice. Three yeast strains identified as Debaryomyces hansenii (NBRI-Sh2.11), Candida tropicalis (NBRI-B3.4) and Candida dubliniensis (NBRI-3.5) were found to have As reductase activity. D. hansenii with higher As tolerance has As expulsion ability as compared to other two strains. Inoculation of D. hansenii showed improved detoxification through scavenging of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by the modulation of SOD and APX activity under As stress condition in rice. Modulation of defense responsive gene (NADPH, GST, GR) along with arsR and metal cation transporter are the probable mechanism of As detoxification as evident with improved membrane (electrolyte leakage) stability. Reduced grain As (~40% reduction) due to interaction with D. hansenii (NBRI-Sh2.11) further validated it's As mitigation property in rice. To the best of our knowledge D. hansenii has been reported for the first time for arsenic stress mitigation in rice with improved growth and nutrient status of the plant. Rice is the most consumed food crop and essential determinant in global food security program. Currently, arsenic (As) accumulation in rice is a critical concern in terms of both crop productivity and grain quality; therefore, it is an urgent need to reduce As accumulation. Here, we selected a glutaredoxin (OsGrx_C7) gene that plays an essential role in AsIII tolerance in rice. To explore the mechanism, we raised OsGrx_C7 overexpression (OE) rice lines, which showed improved plant AsIII tolerance and lowered its accumulation in grains. Arsenic accumulation in husk, unpolished, and polished rice reduced by ca. 65%, 67%, and 85%, respectively, in OE lines, compared to wild-type (WT) plants. To know the rationale, expression of AsIII transporters (aquaporins) in root and shoot tissues were examined, and revealed that OsGrx_C7 regulates the expression of these genes, which ultimately reduces root to shoot AsIII translocation. Additionally, OsGrx_C7 improves root growth by regulating the expression of oxidative stress-induced root expansion related genes, promote root growth and plant health. Overall, current study suggested that AsIII induced OsGrx_C7 markedly enhanced tolerance to AsIII with reduced accumulation in grains by regulating root expansion and controlling root to shoot As transport by altered expression of AsIII aquaporins. BACKGROUND Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) exposure has been shown to be a risk factor for many diseases. However, studies on the association between PAHs exposure and kidney disease are limited. The aim of this study was to explore the association between urinary PAHs and albuminuria based on a national representative sample from the general U.S. POPULATION METHOD The data utilized were extracted from the 2003-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Eight urinary PAHs were detected as PAH metabolites (OH-PAHs). Multivariable logistic regression analyses were applied to examine the association between urinary OH-PAHs and urinary albumin-creatinine ratio (ACR). All models were adjusted for confounding demographic, anthropometric and lifestyle factors. RESULT A total of 8149 NHANES (2003-2014) participants with complete data were eligible. Compared with the lowest quartile, an increased prevalence of high ACR level (>3 mg/mmol) was observed in the participants with the highest quartile of 2-hydroxynaphthalene [OR (95% CI), 1.56 (1.28-1.90), P less then 0.001], 3-hydroxyfluorene [OR (95% CI), 1.29 (1.06-1.58), P = 0.011] and 2-hydroxyfluorene [OR (95% CI), 1.47 (1.20-1.80), P less then 0.001] levels after adjusting for confounding factors. In subgroup analysis, significantly high OH-PAHs leveland a strong relationship between OH-PAHs and ACR were observed in current smokers in the adjusted model. CONCLUSION High levels of urinary OH-PAHs were positively associated with high levels of ACR in the U.S. POPULATION Our finding provided evidence that PAHs exposure might potentially be related to albuminuria and therefore might have implications for environmental governance and prevention/treatment of this condition. Enrichment of the hyperaccumulator bank is important for phytoremediation, and studying new hyperaccumulators has become a research hotspot. In this study, cadmium (Cd), the main representative factor of heavy-metal-polluted water, was the research object, and the Cd bioenrichment ability and tolerance of Myriophyllum aquaticum were studied for the first time. The experiment was conducted for 28 days by establishing experimental groups with different Cd concentrations (0, 10, 20, 40, 80, and 160 mg/L). The results show that M. aquaticum is a new Cd hyperaccumulator. There was no notable damage in the 40 mg/L Cd treatment group, and the Cd enrichment ability of M. aquaticum reached 17,970 ± 1020.01 mg/kg, while the bioconcentration factor (BCF) reached 449.25. At the same time, the antioxidant system (superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD)) and proline (Pro) levels of M. aquaticum maintained normal plant physiology, but there were physiological anomalies in M. aquaticum at high concentrations and under long-term treatment.
