However, this study highlights the importance of fecal contamination assessment in mangrove areas since the presence of untreated sewage in these ecosystems is an issue of public and environmental health.Anthropogenic activities can introduce polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in coastal waters. Here, 16 priority PAHs were quantified by gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) in seawater samples from three Iberian Atlantic habitats. Results showed global concentrations of ≅9 ng/L in the aqueous phase (DAP) and ≅94 ng/g, dw in suspended particulate matter (SPM). The identified sources were both petrogenic and pyrogenic. Nonetheless, the application of several quantitative approaches, including Principal Component Analysis, point to distinct PAHs inputs amongst the sampling areas and demonstrate that sources in S1 (fire forests/sea harbor) are different from those at S2 and S3 (oil refinery/sea harbor). The calculated carcinogenicity potential in both DAP and SPM was low for humans (high percentage of Group 3 PAHs). However, both toxic equivalent factors (TEQs) and environmental risks coefficients (RQs) reveal that the evaluated areas are not risk-free, as confirmed by the practical Artemia salina acute-test assay.The concentration of 23 metals was analyzed in the tissue of nine fish species, which represents the different habitats, i.e., primary feeder, tertiary feeder, and bottom feeder in fresh and marine waters of Visakhapatnam. Scomberomorus guttatus, Upeneus vittatus, and Penaeus indicus were selected in the coastal waters; Xiphias gladius, Stolephorus indicus, and Penaeus monodon from deep sea; and Channa striata, Puntius chola, and Macrobrachium rosenbergii from freshwater were analyzed. Metals in fish were analyzed by using the Inductive Couple Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS). The concentrations of metals in fish were within the permissible limit set by WHO, FAO apart from Chromium, Aluminum, Manganese, and Arsenic. The concentrations were highest in coastal water fish and lowest in freshwater fish. Similarly, higher concentrations were observed in bottom feeders than in other tiers.Despite a recent report of high concentrations of microplastics and microfibers in the mesopelagic waters of Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary (MBNMS), little is known about these particles in surface waters. From 2017 to 2019, we sampled two nearshore and two offshore locations within MBNMS using a manta trawl and analyzed these samples for microplastics and microfibers. We found an average concentration of 1.32 ± 0.70 (SE) particles per m3. We found the highest concentration of particles closest to shore, and the lowest concentration above the remote Davidson Seamount. Fiber-like debris was more common in offshore, as compared to nearshore, sites. Overall, particles in our samples were primarily buoyant synthetic polymers, including polypropylene and polyethylene. Our results provide baseline data on the degree of microplastic and microfiber pollution in MBNMS surface waters and confirm that this pollution can be found in waters from the surface to at least 1000 m depth.Spatial distribution of Butyltins (BTs) in surface sediments and gastropod tissues were quantified, with samples taken from an estuarine system of the Eastern Amazon, Brazil. The imposex incidence was also assessed using Thaisella coronata (Gastropoda, Mollusca). The sediment sampling was carried out at 19 sites and T. coronata in 6 of those. The highest BTs levels were detected in sediments of a Marine Extractive Reserve (27.1 ng Sn g-1) and in an urban area (19.8 ng Sn g-1). In T. Baf-A1 coronata tissues, BTs levels ranged from less then 5 to 142 ng Sn g-1. Imposex incidence ranged from 0% to 100% and VDSII (penile papillae) was registered in gastropods from 5 out of 6 sampled sites. The results suggest that BTs concentrations are related to sampled area use, but also to the local hydrodynamics, highlighting the importance of an effective control in the use of TBT-based antifouling paints in the Eastern Amazon.Understanding public perceptions, opinions and knowledge about marine plastic litter issue is a critical step in effectively engaging society and changing human behaviour in order to reduce litter inputs. The study performs a segmentation analysis that jointly considers opinions about sources and impacts of a sample of 605 Italians with a twofold objective i. to identify homogeneous segments of people according to the importance they attach to different sources and impacts of plastic litter; ii. to understand if behavioural aspects and personal characteristics emerged for each cluster of people. Gender, education and living areas significantly affect respondents' opinions, knowledge and behaviour. A high level of awareness and concern emerged. Four clusters- "the silent majority", "the least concerned and involved", "the little conscious of litter sources", and "the most severe and committed"-, reveal the heterogeneity of people's profiles. Policy implications in terms of knowledge, education and behaviour for reducing marine plastic pollution are discussed.

Qualitative study with phenomenological approach carried out between January and May 2019.

Structural sampling. Open interviews recorded in audio were used, with the prior consent of the participants.
The interviewed professionals state that they have been victims of aggressions, especially verbal ones. These aggressions according to the participants are so common that they have normalized them within their working day. None has ever denounced this type of behavior, largely because they consider that the bureaucracy and administrative procedures are tedious, and others due to ignorance of the procedure. These types of situations, at work level, cause them feelings of sadness, anger and helplessness and are the cause according to them, of the increase in defensive medicine. Professionals believe that the cause of the increase in aggressions among the group is due to poor education and inadequate management of patient empowerment.
