Background Medical-refractory severe alcoholic hepatitis (AH) has a high mortality. The national frequency, longer-term outcomes and regional practices of AH liver transplantation (LT) in the US are not well described, despite the increasing mortality from alcohol-associated liver disease. Methods We analyzed the trends in frequency and outcomes of UNOS data on 39,455 adult patients who underwent LT from 2014-2019, including AH LT recipients. Results LTs for AH increased 5-fold, from 28 in 2014 to 138 in 2019, varying 8-fold between UNOS regions. Three transplant centers accounted for 50-90% of AH LTs within each region. The number of transplant centers performing AH LTs increased from 14 in 2014 to 47 in 2019. AH patients were younger (mean=39.4 years), had higher MELD scores (mean=36.8), and were more often on dialysis (46.0%) and in ICU (38.4%), compared to other indications (all p values less then 0.05). One- and 5-year graft survivals for AH LT recipients were 91.7% and 81.9, respectively. Conclusions The frequency of AH LT is increasing rapidly, with excellent medium-term outcomes. An impact of AH recurrence on patient or graft survival is not apparent in this national analysis. There are marked geographic variations in practices, highlighting the lack of selection criteria standardization.Topical antibiotic therapy is a central component of patient management for several skin conditions, including acne, hidradenitis suppurativa, rosacea, impetigo or other superinfected dermatitis, prevention of wound infections. These products are only composed of the complexes B and Ag(I). According to DFT calculations, complex B coordinates to metal centers via both the As lone pair and the As-As σ-bond thus showing this unique feature of this diarsene Ligand.We report our approach in a 44 year old male with a cT3dN2 rectal adenocarcinoma 9cm from the anal verge and innumerable polyps due to MYH-associated polyposis. Abraxane Cats have been considered playing a role in the epidemiology of visceral leishmaniosis, an endemic zoonosis in Iran. The studies concerning feline leishmaniosis (FeL) allow the hypothesis that cats can be considered as potential reservoirs. The investigations on Leishmania infection in cats are very few in Iran and therefore we aimed to assess the L. infantum infection in stray cats and its possible role in transmission of the disease to human by direct agglutination test (DAT), ELISA, nested-PCR and confirmation via sequencing and phylogenetic analysis in Fars province, Iran. Whole blood samples were obtained from 174 stray cats. Anti-Leishmania antibodies were detected in the sera using DAT and ELISA. DNA was extracted from the buffy coat of each subject and PCR amplified, targeting Leishmania kDNA gene. PCR results were confirmed by sequence analysis. Prevalence of clinical signs in positive cats was 19.0%. Anti-Leishmania antibodies with different titers were detected in 48 (27.59%) and leishmanial DNA in 36 (20.69%) of the cats. The sequencing of PCR-positive cats revealed the parasite as L. infantum. A high seroprevalence of L. infantum was revealed, with higher levels in males, adult cats, and those living in rural districts and southern zones. Despite the reservoir task of cats in nature is still ambiguous, the high serological and molecular detection of L. infantum in stray cats indicates that cats are regularly bitten by infected sand flies in Fars province, southern Iran, and may have a potential reservoir role in the maintenance of L. infantum in the endemic areas of zoonotic visceral leishmaniosis in Iran. Anyway, Leishmania infection must be appraised in the differential diagnosis of cutaneous or systemic clinical signs in cats.Genetic code expansion is one of the most powerful technologies in protein engineering . In addition to the 20 canonical amino acids, the expanded genetic code is supplemented by unnatural amino acids. Unnatural amino acids carry artificial side chains that can be introduced into target proteins in vitro and in vivo. A wide range of chemical groups have been incorporated co-translationally into proteins in single cells and multicellular organisms by using genetic code expansion. Incorporated unnatural amino acids have been used for novel structure-function relationship studies, bioorthogonal labelling of proteins in cellulo for microscopy and in vivo for tissue-specific proteomics, introduction of post-translational modifications and optical control of protein function, to name a few examples. In this Minireview, the development of genetic code expansion technology is briefly introduced, then, its applications in neurobiology are discussed, with a focus on studies utilising mammalian cells and mice as model organisms.
