Further trials are needed to provide more reliable evidence.INTRODUCTION The assessment of bone marrow thrombopoietic activity in patients with thrombocytopenia is necessary to achieve an accurate diagnosis and administer effective treatment. We evaluated the discriminatory power of the immature platelet fraction (IPF) in differentiating hyperdestructive/consumptive thrombocytopenia from hypoproductive thrombocytopenia and its potential use as a predictive marker for platelet recovery. METHODS In this observational study, platelet indices, including IPF, were measured in 105 healthy individuals, 27 patients with hyperdestructive/consumptive thrombocytopenia (all with immune thrombocytopenic purpura [ITP]), and 35 patients with hypoproductive thrombocytopenia (5 with aplastic anemia and 30 with cancer who were undergoing chemotherapy) using a Sysmex XN-3000 hematology analyzer. RESULTS The platelet distribution width, mean platelet volume, platelet large cell ratio, IPF, and absolute immature platelet count (AIPC) were significantly higher in the hyperdestructive/consumptive thrombocytopenia group than in the hypoproductive thrombocytopenia group (P  less then  .001). The IPF showed the highest difference between the two patient groups (200%). Receiver operating characteristics analysis that showed the IPF had the largest area under the curve among all the platelet indices analyzed; its cut-off value was 2.3%. The IPF decreased 3 to 4 days in advance of platelet count elevation in patients with ITP, whereas the delta AIPC increased 3 days in advance. Furthermore, the IPF and delta AIPC increased 5.5 days and 8.5 days, respectively, before platelet counts increased up to 130.0 × 10/L in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. CONCLUSION These data demonstrated that the IPF and delta AIPC are both excellent indicators of the etiology of thrombocytopenia and predictive markers for platelet recovery.BACKGROUND Influenza is a severe disease burden among all age groups. This study aimed to review the efficacy of inactivated influenza vaccines with MF59 adjuvant and non-adjuvanted inactivated influenza vaccines among all age groups against specific influenza vaccine strains. METHODS Literature search of PubMed, Embase, Medline, OVID, and Cochrane Library Trials (CENTRAL) was implemented up to March 1, 2019. Homogeneity qualified studies were included forData were extracted such as study country location, demographic characteristics, and measure outcomes, and were analyzed by a random effect model and sensitivity analyses to identify heterogeneity. Risk of bias was evaluated using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool. RESULTS We retrieved 1,021 publications and selected 31 studies for full review, including 17 trials for meta-analysis and 6 trials for qualitative synthesis. MF59-adjuvanted influenza vaccines demonstrated better immunogenicity against specific vaccine virus strains compared to non-adjuvanted influenza vaccine both in healthy adult group (RR = 2.10; 95% CI 1.28-3.44) and the healthy aged (RR = 1.26; 95% CI 1.10-1.44). CONCLUSION The quality of evidence is moderate to high for seroconversion and seroprotection rates of influenza vaccine. MF59-adjuvanted influenza vaccines are superior to non-adjuvanted influenza vaccines to enhance immune responses of vaccination in healthy adults and older adults, and could be considered for routine use especially the monovalent prepandemic influenza vaccines.To determine the treatment needs and the care index for dental caries in the primary dentition and permanent dentition of schoolchildren and to quantify the cost of care that would represent the treatment of dental caries in Mexico.A secondary analysis of data from the First National Caries Survey was conducted, which was a cross-sectional study conducted in the 32 states of Mexico. Based on dmft (average number of decayed, extracted, and filled teeth in the primary dentition) and DMFT (average number of decayed, extracted, and filled teeth in permanent dentition) information, a treatment needs index (TNI) and a caries care index (CI) were calculated.At age 6, the TNI for the primary dentition ranged from 81.7% to 99.5% and the CI ranged from 0.5% to 17.6%. Saracatinib In the permanent dentition, the TNI ranged from 58.8% to 100%, and the CI ranged from 0.0% to 41.2%. At age 12, the TNI ranged from 55.4% to 93.4%, and the CI ranged from 6.5% to 43.4%.
