A Guide to Duvet Togs & Fillings
The perfect duvet is an essential part of a good night's sleep. However, with the multitude of togs, fillings and sizes to pick from, it can be quite overwhelming!
Synthetic fibres are becoming popular due to their cost-effectiveness and softness. They also have sinking-in hypoallergenic qualities. They can lead to excessive heat and are less breathable for those who sleep warm.
What is a duvet tog?
A duvet's temperature is a measure of how warm or cool a duvet will be when you sleep beneath it. The higher the rating of the tog the more warm the duvet. Togs can be measured on an interval of 1 to 15. Lower togs are lighter and cooler while 15 togs is warmer but still cozy.
Duvet togs are determined by how effective the duvet is at capturing heat. It can be affected by a variety of factors including filling and the way in which the duvet was constructed. For instance, natural fibers such as goose down or wool offer more insulation than hollowfibre made of synthetic materials and can be an excellent choice for those who are concerned about allergies or prefer the soft and comfortable feel of natural fillings. The size of a duvet's thickness can also affect its tog, with thicker duvets typically offering higher tog than those with a thinner.
Duvets can be made to meet the needs of those sharing a bed with someone else. Some duvets can be divided in half to give each person a duvet. Gingerlily's "half and half" silk duvet is available for PS350. This allows each person to choose the duvet they like without having to compromise.
her latest blog may prefer a higher tog rating ideal, but some may overheat, causing uncomfortable sweating or disrupting sleep. You should select the right duvet for your preferences, particularly when you are using blankets with weights.
The right duvet will help you have a comfortable night's sleep, whatever the season. If you're not sure which duvet tog you require we suggest you choose a seasonal option. For example, our 4.5 tog duvet for summer or 9.5 tog winter duvet. You can layer them to ensure maximum comfort throughout the year.
Seasonal duvets
It's a good idea to do this if you have space to store a variety of duvets. You can pick one for every season. This way, you'll be able to stay cool during warm nights, and snuggle in the winter months when it's cold. It's easy to go overboard with buying too many duvets. A low tog in summer can leave you sweating throughout the night, and a high tog for winter will leave you feeling too cold. If you're looking for the perfect solution to achieve the right balance for you, consider one of our top all-season options.
This clever duvet from Slumberdown blends two different togs, allowing you to find the perfect mix. It has a cool 4.5 tog side and an a warmer 10.5 tog that can be sewed together or separated based on the temperature. This duvet was also eco-friendly and had a soft and silky feeling. It's suitable for regular machine wash and dry, and is anti-allergenic too. Our test participants discovered that it didn't rustle as much on test and was warm and cozy all night.
Another alternative to Slumberdown, this one is vegan and also uses a natural fibre called tencel lyocell. It's made from trees and absorbs moisture so it's soft and light - but it doesn't have any of the nastiness that can come with animal down. The duvet is comfortable and breathable fabric that is comfortable for those who tend to get hot in the evening. It is available in single or double sizes.
This is a different duvet for all seasons made by Slumberdown. It's super cozy and the 13.5 tog can be affixed to the 4.5tog side to create a duvet that you can alter to your sleep temperature. This duvet can be reversible so you can select the side that suits your mood. It is also machine washable. The duvet was cozy and did not move much during our test. Our testers also liked the quality of the finish and that it came with a durable cotton cover.
Custom duvets
A custom duvet is a fantastic option to add comfort and style to your bed. Choose a fabric to match the aesthetic of your room and create a design you are in love with. You can also add trims or ruffles for a more elegant look. Make certain to remember that a custom duvet should remain functional and simple to use.
Custom-designed duvets can be machine washed which makes them easy to clean and keep hygienic. They also eliminate the need for regular visits to the dry cleaner and free up space in your closets. Many have a soft and breathable cover that can help protect against dust mites and other allergens. You can even choose to have your duvet printed with initials or names to make it truly distinctive.
Measuring the duvet will help you determine the amount of fabric required. This will allow you to determine the amount of fabric you will need. Once you have these measurements, you can choose a duvet cover that fits perfectly. The covers are available in a range of sizes from single to super-king. They are available in different togs including lighter summer choices to more robust winter options.
You can choose to have a duvet made without turning. This makes it simpler to make the bed and is an excellent option for rooms with children. You can also buy matching pillows, bed skirt, and other bedding to complete your bedding.
All season duvets
All-season duvets are an excellent option if you prefer the natural feel of a bed, however, you are constantly switching between a lighter summer duvet and heavier winter duvet each season. Designed to keep you cosy all through the summer, spring, autumn and winter, an all season duvet is typically made up of two separate duvets, each with different Tog ratings. The first is typically a lighter, summer duvet, usually with an average Tog of 4.5. The second one is typically warmer, with an average rating of 9.0 or 10.5. The two duvets are then connected to create a warm and cozy winter duvet.
If you want to have a lighter summer duvet and warmer duvet for winter, in your bed, a 3-in-1 duvet may be the best option. These duvets combine a 4.5-tog and a 9-tog duvet and can be used in a single set or joined together. They are a good option for hot sleepers who are uncomfortable to sleep under a heavier duvet in the summer, as well as cold sleepers who feel a light summer duvet is too thin.
This duvet by Brook + Wilde was a winner in our test for its premium feel and nearly perfect score. It comes with a 4.5 tog layer and an 8-tog layer, and the testers found the snap studs used to join the layers easy to use. They also appreciated how simple the duvet was to machine wash, which can be an issue with some feather duvets.
A half-and-half-duvet is the ideal solution if your partner has an opposite temperature to you. This Slumberdown duvet is made up of a lighter 4.5 tog and a warmer 10 tog side. You can mix and match these sides depending on how you feel the night.
We recommend the Slumberdown Cosy Nights duvet if you want something warm and cosy. It's extremely warm and soft and gives you a fantastic night's sleep. The price is a bit high, but it's worth it if you suffer from cold sleep.
