Disuatu nama ternyata memiliki sebuah rahasia tersendiri disetiap pemilik nama tersebut. Manusia ternyata sangat dekat dengan huruf yang mempunyai makna sendiri. Pengertian dasar dari:
- Inanimate artinya benda mati.
- Animate artinya benda hidup.
Transformation Spell dibagi menjadi 4 macam mantra, yaitu :
- Inanimate to Inanimate
yaitu mantra perubahan dari benda mati ke benda mati lainnya.
- Animate to Animate
yaitu mantra perubahan dari benda hidup ke benda hidup lainnya.
- Inanimate to Animate
yaitu mantra perubahan benda mati menjadi makhluk hidup.
- Animate to Inanimate
yaitu mengubah makhluk bernyawa (biasanya hewan) menjadi benda mati.

Parseltongue / Parselmouth ini adalah bahasa ular, Keterampilan yang sangat jarang dan biasanya turun-temurun. Hampir semua Parselmouth dikenal adalah keturunan Salazar Slytherin dengan Harry Potter menjadi pengecualian.
