In this study, we explored whether NTRC acts as a master regulator of the pool of chloroplast Trxs by analyzing its functional relationship with Trxs y. While Trx y interacts with 2-Cys Prxs in vitro and in planta, the analysis of Arabidopsis mutants devoid of NTRC and Trxs y suggests that Trxs y have only a minor effect, if any, on the redox state of 2-Cys Prxs.The cultivation of bacteria sets a ground for studying biological processes in many scientific disciplines. The development of the bacterial population is commonly described with three factors that can be used to evaluate culture conditions. However, selecting only one of them for the optimization protocol is rather problematic and may lead to unintended errors. Therefore, we proposed a novel mathematical approach to obtain a single factor that could be used as the objective function to evaluate the whole growth dynamic and support the optimization of the biomass production process. The sigmoidal-shape curve, which is the commonly used function to plot the amount of biomass versus time, was the base for the mathematical analysis. The key process parameters, such as maximal specific growth rate and lag-phase duration were established with the use of mathematical coefficients of the model curve and combined to create the single growth parameter. Moreover, this parameter was used for the exemplary optimization of the cultivation conditions of Klebsiella pneumoniae that was cultured to be further used in the production of lytic bacteriophages. The proposed growth parameter was successfully validated and used to calculate the optimal process temperature of the selected bacterial strain. The obtained results indicated that the proposed mathematical approach could be effortlessly adapted for a precise evaluation of growth curves.Polyethylene glycol (PEG) coating of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) improves AuNP distribution via blood circulation. The use of PEG-coated AuNPs was shown to result in acute injuries to the liver, kidney, and spleen, but long-term toxicity has not been well studied. In this study, we investigated reporter induction for up to 90 days in NF-κB transgenic reporter mice following intravenous injection of PEG-coated AuNPs. The results of different doses (1 and 4 μg AuNPs per gram of body weight), particle sizes (13 nm and 30 nm), and PEG surfaces (methoxyl- or carboxymethyl-PEG 5 kDa) were compared. The data showed up to 7-fold NF-κB reporter induction in mouse liver from 3 h to 7 d post PEG-AuNP injection compared to saline-injected control mice, and gradual reduction to a level similar to control by 90 days. Agglomerates of PEG-AuNPs were detected in liver Kupffer cells, but neither gross pathological abnormality in liver sections nor increased activity of liver enzymes were found at 90 days. Injection of PEG-AuNPs led to an increase in collagen in liver sections and elevated total serum cholesterol, although still within the normal range, suggesting that inflammation resulted in mild fibrosis and affected hepatic function. In order to combine areca fiber and natural rubber latex better, three silane coupling agents with different action mechanism were selected Si-69, KH550, and KH570 which were used to treat the areca fiber/natural latex compound. The results show that the silane coupling agent can change the surface of the fiber from hydrophilic surface to organophilic surface, making the bonding of areca fiber to natural latex more closely. At the same time, the mechanical properties, physical and mechanical properties, swelling properties, and dynamic viscoelastic properties of the tightly bonded areca fiber/nature latex composites were improved. After observing the micro-structure through a scanning electron microscope, it was found that the three silane coupling agents could effectively bind areca fiber and natural latex to enhance the performance of the composite material, of which Si-69 performed best, and the tensile strength and tear strength of the composite increased by 21.19% and 12.90% respectively.Immune checkpoint molecules are the antigen-independent generator of secondary signals that aid in maintaining the homeostasis of the immune system. Though targeting the PD-1/PD-L1 axis has received immense recognition-the Nobel Prize in clinical oncology was awarded in the year 2018 for this discovery-the use of therapeutic modulating strategies for the PD-L1/PD-1 pathway in chronic inflammatory blood vessel diseases is still limited to experimental models. However, studies using clinical specimens that support the role of PD-1 and PD-L1 in patients with underlying atherosclerosis are also detailed.
