Random skin flap is widely used to repair tissue defects; however, it is often accompanied by ischemia and necrosis of the distal flap due to inferior axial vascularity. Even though different drugs, biomaterials, and stem cell therapies have been developed to improve the survival of random flap, evaluating the promotion of flap survival remains a big challenge. Based on successful clinical practice, we designed a "Pingpong racket" shape flap in the rat. Without the predetected blood vessels procedure, the "pingpong racket" flap provides a preferable option to evaluate the function of drugs and biomaterials in promoting flap survival.
"Pingpong racket" dorsal flaps with different pedicle lengths were developed in the rats. The survival area was evaluated by digital photography and computer-assisted analysis. The quantitative survival area was considered a useful indicator for analyzing drugs' applicability in improving skin flap survival.

Besides, it is intuitive and aesthetically pleasing.Depolymerization of lignin biomass to its value-added chemicals and fuels is pivotal for achieving the goals for sustainable society, and therefore has acquired key interest among the researchers worldwide. A number of distinct approaches have evolved in literature for the deconstruction of lignin framework to its mixture of complex constituents in recent decades. Among the existing practices, special attention has been devoted for robust site selective chemical transformation in the complex structural frameworks of lignin. Despite the initial challenges over a period of time, oxidation and oxidative cleavage process of aromatic building blocks of lignin biomass toward the fine chemical synthesis and fuel generation has improved substantially. The development has improved in terms of cost effectiveness, milder reaction conditions, and purity of compound individuals. These aforementioned oxidative protocols mainly involve the breaking of C-C and C-O bonds of complex lignin frameworks. More precisely in the line with environmentally friendly greener approach, the catalytic oxidation/oxidative cleavage reactions have received wide spread interest for their mild and selective nature toward the lignin depolymerization. This mini-review aims to provide an overview of recent developments in the field of oxidative depolymerization of lignin under greener and environmentally benign conditions. Also, these oxidation protocols have been discussed in terms of scalability and recyclability as catalysts for different fields of applications.The immunoregulator spleen tyrosine kinase (SYK) is upregulated in cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE). This double-blind, multicentre, Phase Ib study evaluated the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and clinical efficacy of the selective SYK inhibitor GSK2646264 in active CLE lesions. Two lesions from each participant (n = 11) were each randomized to topical application of 1% (w/w) GSK2646264 or placebo for 28 days; all participants received GSK2646264 and placebo. The primary endpoint was safety and tolerability of GSK2646264, assessed by adverse event incidence and a skin tolerability test. Secondary endpoints included change from baseline in clinical activity and mRNA expression of interferon-related genes in skin biopsies. Levels of several immune cell markers were evaluated over time. Santacruzamate A Eight (73%) participants experienced ≥ 1 adverse event (all mild in intensity), and maximal dermal response was similar for GSK2646264 and placebo. The expression of several interferon-related genes, including CXCL10 and OAS1, showed modest decreases from baseline after 28 days of treatment with GSK2646264 compared with placebo. Similar findings were observed for CD3 + T cell and CD11c + dendritic cell levels; however, overall clinical activity remained unchanged with GSK2646264 vs. placebo. Further studies are warranted to assess SYK inhibitors as potential treatment for CLE.
During COVID-19 pandemic in Spain, elective procedures were canceled or postponed, mainly due to health care systems overwhelming.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the consequences of interrupting invasive procedures in patients with chronic cardiac diseases due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Spain.
The study population is comprised of 2,158 patients that were pending on elective cardiac invasive procedures in 37 hospitals in Spain on the 14th of March 2020, when a state of alarm and subsequent lockdown was declared in Spain due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These patients were followed-up until April 31th.
Out of the 2,158 patients, 36 (1.7%) died. Mortality was significantly higher in patients pending on structural procedures (4.5% vs. 0.8%, respectively; p < .001), in those >80 year-old (5.1% vs. 0.7%, p < .001), and in presence of diabetes (2.7% vs. 0.9%, p = .001), hypertension (2.0% vs. 0.6%, p = .014), hypercholesterolemia (2.0% vs. 0.9%, p = .026) [Correction added on December 23,of help in patient selection for being promptly treated when similar situations happen in the future.Pathological hypertrophy contributes to heart failure and there is not quite effective treatment to invert this process. Isosteviol has been shown to protect the heart against ischaemia-reperfusion injury and isoproterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy, but its effect on pressure overload-induced cardiac hypertrophy is still unknown. Pressure overload induced by transverse aortic constriction (TAC) causes cardiac hypertrophy in rats to mimic the pathological condition in human. This study examined the effects of isosteviol sodium (STVNa) on cardiac hypertrophy by the TAC model and cellular assays in vitro. Cardiac function test, electrocardiogram analysis and histological analysis were conducted. The effects of STVNa on calcium transient of the adult rat ventricular cells and the proliferation of neonatal rat cardiac fibroblasts were also studied in vitro. Cardiac hypertrophy was observed after 3-week TAC while the extensive cardiac dysfunction and electronic remodelling were observed after 9-week TAC. Both STVNa and sildenafil (positive drug) treatment reversed the two process, but STVNa appeared to be more superior in some aspects and did not change calcium transient considerably.
