Many studies have shown that adiponectin is closely related to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but the specific role of adiponectin in COPD is still not well understood. TNF-α and apoptotic cells promoted adiponectin expression in HBECs in a dose-dependent manner, and apoptotic cells significantly promoted adiponectin secretion. IL-6 also promoted adiponectin expression, but it inhibited adiponectin expression at high doses and with long treatment times. LPS inhibited adiponectin expression, but when HBECs were pretreated with anti-TNF-α and then treated with LPS, the expression andiponectin expression in HBECs. Adiponectin stimulated the secretion of pro-inflammatory factors in HBECs, but this effect was not concentration dependent. Adiponectin promoted the secretion of anti-inflammatory factors in a dose-dependent manner. Adiponectin inhibited LPS-induced pro-inflammatory factor secretion and enhanced anti-inflammatory factor secretion. Therefore, many factors regulate the expression and secretion of adiponectin, and adiponectin regulates the balance of the inflammatory response and inhibits further expansion of inflammation.Soft robotics is a growing field of research, focusing on constructing motor-less robots from highly compliant materials, some are similar to those found in living organisms. Here, recent developments in the field of materials for 3D printing of soft robotics are summarized, including high-performance flexible and stretchable materials, hydrogels, self-healing materials, and shape memory polymers, as well as fabrication of all-printed robots (multi-material printing, embedded electronics, untethered and autonomous robotics). The current challenges in the fabrication of 3D printed soft robotics, including the materials available and printing abilities, are presented and the recent activities addressing these challenges are also surveyed.The 'Help and Support for Caregivers and Patients' psycho-education group aims to educate and support dementia caregivers. Fourteen spousal caregivers were interviewed before (T1) and after (T2) psycho-education participation. Intrapersonal processes and the potential evolution of lived experience were explored using longitudinal interpretative phenomenological analysis. Three trajectory groups were identified at T1 proactive help-seekers, passive but hopeful caregivers and ambivalent caregivers. T2 interviews revealed that caregivers experienced growth in their role, benefitted from peer interactions, feelings of guilt were addressed and they were using out-of-home dementia-specific services. Identifying beliefs or attitudes that might prevent caregivers from getting help or support is important. Caregiver well-being remains a public health priority and furthering our knowledge about their complex and changing needs is paramount to provide well-designed and tailored resources.Benign metastasizing leiomyoma (BML) is a rare disease that is characterized by well-differentiated smooth muscle tumors occurring extrauterine site in women with a history of uterine leiomyoma. The lung is the most common metastatic site for BML. A 48-year-old woman, who had histories of laparoscopic myomectomy and transabdominal total hysterectomy, visited an orthopedics complaining of a mass in her left thigh and difficulty in walking. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and fluorine 18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography revealed multiple mass lesions in her both thighs and left femur as well as both lungs. She was referred to our hospital for further examination. We diagnosed her tumors as BML according to histopathological analysis of tumor specimen. The left thigh tumor was resected and the treatment with gonadotropin releasing hormone agonist regressed the size of the residual tumors by approximately 30%. BML should be considered when multiple soft tissue tumors are found in women with a history of leiomyomas.Chemotherapy causes off-target toxicity and is often ineffective against solid tumors. Targeted and on-demand release of chemotherapeutics remains a challenge. Here, cancer-cell-membrane-coated mesoporous organosilica nanoparticles (MONs) containing X-ray- and reactive oxygen species (ROS)-responsive diselenide bonds for controlled release of doxorubicin (DOX) at tumor sites are developed. DOX-loaded MONs coated with 4T1 breast cancer cell membranes (CM@MON@DOX) show greater accumulation at tumor sites and prolonged blood circulation time versus an uncoated control in mice bearing 4T1 orthotopic mammary tumors. Under low-dose X-ray radiation, the DOX-loaded MONs exhibit carrier degradation-controlled release via cleavage of diselenide bonds, resulting in DOX-mediated immunogenic cell death at the tumor site. Combination with a PD-L1 checkpoint blockade further enhances inhibition of tumor growth and metastasis with low systemic toxicity. Together, the findings show the promise of these biomimetic, radiation-responsive diselenide-bond-bridged MONs in chemo-immunotherapy.Most parasites and pathogens infect multiple hosts, but a great deal of variation exists in the role of those hosts in persistence of infection. Understanding which hosts are most important in maintaining parasites can provide a clearer target for infection control. Recently developed empirical and theoretical approaches provide a way to quantify the relative contribution of hosts within a community and place them in a multi-host framework to better direct control efforts. Amphibians provide a framework for better understanding multi-host-multi-parasite dynamics.
