Although aplastic anemia is intimately related to paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, until now, no cases of PNH-associated hepatitis have been described. We report a case of recurrent acute hepatitis preceding the clinical onset of PNH. Treatment of PNH with the complement inhibitor eculizumab (Soliris®) prevented both recurrences of episodes of intravascular hemolysis and liver enzyme alteration. This is the first known published case of PNH-associated hepatitis.
There is limited high-quality evidence on quality of life, anxiety, and depressive symptoms in breast cancer survivors and women with no history of cancer. We aimed to address this by comparing patient-reported outcomes between breast cancer survivors and women with no history of breast cancer.
Breast cancer survivors and women with no prior cancer were selected from the UK Clinical Practice Research Datalink GOLD primary care database, which includes population-based primary care electronic health record data. Breast cancer survivors and controls were frequency matched by age and primary care practice. Outcomes were assessed with validated instruments via postal questionnaire. BEZ235 Linear and logistic regression models were fitted to estimate adjusted associations between breast cancer survivorship and outcomes.
A total of 356 breast cancer survivors (8.1years post diagnosis) and 252 women with no prior cancer participated in the study. Contrast-induced encephalopathy is a rare and usually reversible entity due to the administration of iodinated contrast. Clinical manifestations include cortical blindness, encephalopathy, seizures and focal neurological deficits.
We report the case of a 56-year-old woman who developed global aphasia and right hemiplegia after a cerebral angiography performed for a subarachnoid haemorrhage. A prompt brain MRI resulted negative, while CT scan revealed left cerebral oedema with the cerebral sulci effacement. Complete recovery was observed in 10days.

Coronaviruses mainly affect the respiratory system; however, there are reports of SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV causing neurological manifestations. We aimed at discussing the various neurological manifestations of SARS-CoV-2 infection and to estimate the prevalence of each of them.
We searched the following electronic databases; PubMed, MEDLINE, Scopus, EMBASE, Google Scholar, EBSCO, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, WHO database, and ClinicalTrials.gov . Relevant MeSH terms for COVID-19 and neurological manifestations were used. Randomized controlled trials, non-randomized controlled trials, case-control studies, cohort studies, cross-sectional studies, case series, and case reports were included in the study. To estimate the overall proportion of each neurological manifestations, the study employed meta-analysis of proportions using a random-effects model.
Pooled prevalence of each neurological manifestations are, smell disturbances (35.8%; 95% CI 21.4-50.2), taste disturbances (38.5%; 95%CI 24.0-53.0), myalste disturbances can be used to screen patients with COVID-19 so that early identification and isolation is possible.
We evaluated the utility of the implementation science framework "Integrated Promoting Action on Research Implementation in Health Services" (i-PARIHS) for introducing patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) into a medical oncology outpatient department. The i-PARIHS framework identifies four core constructs for implementation, including Facilitation, Innovation, Context and Recipients.
A pilot study used the i-PARIHS framework to identify PROM implementation barriers and enablers to inform facilitation support strategies, such as training clinicians and staff, workflow support, technical support and audit and feedback. Pre- and post-implementation surveys were completed by 83 and 72 staff, respectively, (nurses, doctors and allied health), to assess perceived knowledge, enablers, barriers and utility of PROMs; and acceptability of the PROM intervention was also assessed post-implementation.
Important barriers included time constraints and previous experiences with technology. Enablers included good leadership support and a culture of learning.
