We conducted this systematic review to investigate how Magnet hospital status affects outcomes for nursing professionals, patients, and health care organizations. Methods In January 2018, the databases CINAHL, ProQuest, PubMed, and La Biblioteca Cochrane Plus were searched for relevant studies. The reference lists of selected articles were also examined to identify additional studies. The PRISMA statement was followed, and established methods for systematic review were used to produce a narrative summary. The quality of the reviewed studies was assessed according to the 22-item Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) checklist for observational studies. Results Of the 163 studies identified, 21 met the eligibility criteria and are included in this review. On the whole, lower rates of nursing shortages, burnout, job dissatisfaction, and turnover were observed at Magnet hospitals compared with non-Magnet hospitals. The rates of patient mortality, falls, hospital-acquired infections, and pressure ulcers were also lower. Nursing work environments were found to be safer and were associated with a higher quality of care in Magnet hospitals than in non-Magnet hospitals, and Magnet hospitals were found to provide more cost-effective care. Conclusion This review provides nursing managers and administrators with the most recent evidence demonstrating that Magnet hospitals have better nursing work environments and are associated with better outcomes for nurses, patients, and organizations than non-Magnet hospitals. This evidence should inform future decision-making with regard to pursuing Magnet designation.The number of orthopedic surgeries performed in the United States has increased substantially over the past several years. This article discusses the effects of smoking on bone health, the importance of smoking cessation among patients scheduled for or recovering from orthopedic surgery, and the vital role nurses play in supporting patient efforts to lead a tobacco-free life.We report the first U.S. experience of the recently approved micro-axial surgical heart pump for the treatment of ongoing cardiogenic shock following acute myocardial infarction (AMICGS), postcardiotomy cardiogenic shock (PCCS), cardiomyopathy including myocarditis, high-risk percutaneous coronary intervention (HRPCI), and coronary artery bypass surgery (HRCABG). Demographic, procedural, hemodynamic, and outcome data were obtained from the manufacturer's quality database of all Impella 5.5 implants at three centers. Fifty-five patients underwent an Impella 5.5 implant for cardiomyopathy (45%), AMICGS (29%), PCCS (13%), preop CABG (5%), OPCAB (4%), and other (4%). Thirty-five patients (63.6%) were successfully weaned off device with recovery of native heart function. Eleven patients (20.0%) were bridged to another therapy, two patients (3.6%) expired while on support, and in seven patients (12.7%) care was withdrawn. Overall survival was 83.6%. There were no device-related strokes, hemolysis, or limb ischemia observed. Four patients experienced purge sidearm damage, resulting in a pump stop in two patients. The new micro-axial surgical heart pump demonstrated successful clinical and device performance in providing both full hemodynamic support and ventricular unloading for patients with AMICGS, decompensated cardiomyopathy, and high-risk cardiac procedures. Atomoxetine is a selective noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor used in the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). In this case report, we present a 9-year-old girl with the comorbid diagnosis of ADHD and SPD treated successfully with atomoxetine. To our knowledge, this is the first report of skin picking treated with atomoxetine in a patient with ADHD. We discussed possible explanations of mechanisms. Further studies are required on the effectiveness of atomoxetine for the treatment of SPD in the presence and absence of comorbid ADHD.Aripiprazole is an atypical antipsychotic commonly used in the treatment of childhood disorders, such as bipolar disorder, psychosis, and irritability associated with autism spectrum disorder. Common side effects of its use include extrapyramidal side effects, somnolence, tremor, fatigue, nausea, and akathisia. Enuresis is an additional and rare side effect of aripiprazole use. There is limited data on the subject of enuresis induced as a result of treatment with aripiprazole. To our knowledge, there are no reports in the literature on aripiprazole-induced enuresis continuum in children. In this report, we present the case of a 9-year-old boy who developed enuresis continuum after the initiation of a low dose of aripiprazole and describe his rapid improvement when administration of the drug was ended.Background Topiramate (TPM) is a fructose derivative, which was originally developed as an antiepileptic. In this context, movement disorders (MDs) are possible adverse events secondary to TPM. Case reports Two patients (cases 1 and 2) developed myoclonus, and the other 2 had restless leg syndrome (RLS, cases 3 and 4). The mean age of the individuals (3 female patients) was 45.75 ± 21.28 years. All the individuals had a negative family history for movement and psychiatry disorders. Topiramate was started at 25 mg with a gradual increase of 25 mg every week. The mean time of onset and recovery of the MD were 1.37 ± 1.10 and 1.02 ± 0.77 months, respectively. The mean TPM dose was 87.5 ± 47.87 mg. Individual 1 presented with upper and lower limb jerks; individual 2 only with upper limb involvement. Individuals 3 and 4 experienced insomnia and nocturnal leg discomfort during inactivity with an urge to move the legs, which they denied having previously; the RLS symptoms occurred within approximately 1 to 3 hours of TPM evening dose.
