Children were recruited from 15 kindergartens in Liaoning Province. A total of 772 children were assessed at baseline and follow-up. A structured questionnaire mainly based on the fifth WHO Oral Health Surveys was used to collect sociodemographic and behavior data. Logistic regression was constructed to assess the association between change in severe dental caries and prevalence of thinness and stunting.

There was a positive association between prevalence of stunting and incidence of severe caries in the fully adjusted model [odds ratios 2.88; 95 percent confidence interval (CI) 1.01, 8.27]. Prevalence of thinness showed insignificant positive association with incidence of severe caries.

While undernutrition indicated by stunting appeared to be a risk factor for severe dental caries, it could also be a marker for other determinants of progress of dental caries including socioeconomic factors and lack of use of dental services.

The Verax PGD rapid test for bacteria in platelets (PLTs) has been updated to simplify workflow and improve specificity and sensitivity by employing a novel sequential format. The performance of this updated version, called PGDprime, was evaluated to determine its suitability for use as an FDA-cleared "safety measure" to supplant the current PGD test.

To evaluate the incidence of laryngeal ultrasound (US) abnormalities in fetuses with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) and to assess the utility of fetal laryngoesophagoscopy for prenatal diagnosis of laryngo-tracheo-esophageal anomalies.

A cohort of CDH fetuses with laryngeal ultrasound abnormalities were selected for diagnostic fetal laringoesophagoscopy in a single fetal surgery center at Queretaro, Mexico.

During the study period, 210 CDH fetuses were evaluated. US examination of the vocal cords was successfully performed in all fetuses, and abnormal ultrasound findings were observed in four cases (1.9%). Fetal laringoesophagoscopy was successfully performed in all four cases at a median gestational age of 29.5 (range, 28.1-30.6) weeks. During fetal intervention, a laryngo-tracheo-esophageal cleft (TEC) extending from the larynx to the carina (type IV) was endoscopically visualized in three cases, and laryngeal atresia coexisting with TEC was confirmed in the remaining case. Fetal karyotype was normal in all cases, but abnormal chromosomal microarray analysis was reported in two cases (50%). All cases were delivered liveborn with severe respiratory failure presenting cardiac arrest and immediate neonatal death.
