Sleep disturbances are associated with numerous mood disorders. Similarly, anxiety and depression are associated with modulation of the psychoneuroimmune (PNI) axis. This study hypothesized that changes in both monitored and self-reported measures of sleep would relate to changes in circulating cytokine levels in an emotionally distressed population of cervical cancer survivors.

Biospecimens, patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures, and actigraphy were collected from cervical cancer survivors enrolled in a biobehavioral clinical trial. Longitudinal changes over a 4-month period were examined. Sleep time measured by actigraphy and PRO were analyzed for correlative changes with emotional distress and serum cytokines (n = 71).

Longitudinal change in the actigraph measure of sleep time was inversely associated with changes in depression and anxiety (test for linear trend, p = 0.02 and p = 0.05 respectively), as well as acute-phase response/pro-inflammatory cytokines (test for linear trend, p = 0.003, interlcytokines. Our results support sleep measurement as a meaningful biobehavioral variable in cancer survivorship. This study also indicates that sleep investigators should be aware that choice of methodology might influence concordance with different classes of immune parameters.In order to add safely external electric fields into the systems of the explosives with strong cage strain, the effects of the external electric fields on the strengths of trigger linkages, cage strain energies (CSEs), surface electrostatic potentials (ESPs), as well as impact and shock initiation sensitivities of CL-20 were investigated using the B3LYP and M06-2X methods with 6-311++G(2d,p) basis set. The results show that the changes of the strengths of the N-NO2 bonds are more notable than those of the bonds forming cage, and the changes involving the N-NO2 bonds attached to the five-membered ring are more significant than those attached to the six-membered ring. In most cases, the CSEs in the electric fields are stronger than those in no field. From the BDEs, the N-NO2 cleavage is the decomposition reaction pathway in detonation initiation. However, from the surface ESPs, the N-NO2 cleavage, C-N and C-C bond breaking may initiate the reactions. The global ESPs are more reasonable and reliable to estimate the impact sensitivities of the cage-shaped explosives. The changes of the bond lengths, Mulliken bond orders, nitro group charges and BDEs correlate well with the external electric field strengths. Interestingly, an abnormal result is found that the h50 values in the electric fields are larger than those in no field.
Present study aimed to evaluate and compare the clinical and radiographic efficacy of 0.8% hyaluronic acid (HA) gel as an adjunct to open flap debridement (OFD) versus open flap debridement (OFD) alone in the treatment of periodontal intrabony defects.

This randomized, controlled, split-mouth, clinical trial included 20 chronic periodontitis (stage II or III (grades A to B)) patients, having at least two contralateral intrabony defects. Forty bilateral intrabony defects (20 in each group) were randomly divided into test (0.8% HA gel + OFD) and control (OFD + placebo) groups. Clinical parameters evaluated at baseline, 6-months, and 12-months were plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), and gingival recession (GR). Using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), radiographic parameters were evaluated at baseline and 12 months. This included bone defect fill (DF), alveolar crest changes (ACC), and defect resolution (DR). CAL served as the primary outcome variable.

After 12 months, the test group showed significantly greater CAL gain (5.1 ± 1.2 versus 4.05 ± 1.19 mm) and bone defect fill (DF) (5.67 ± 2.01 versus 4.49 ± 1.78 mm) compared to the control group. Mean PD reduction in the test group (5.3 ± 1.2 versus 4.35 ± 0.81 mm) was statistically significant compared to the control group at 12-month period. The control group showed statistically significant increase in GR (1.2 ± 0.76 versus 0.7 ± 0.73 mm) compared to the test group after 12 months.

Application of hyaluronic acid gel in conjunction with open flap debridement resulted in enhanced clinical and radiographic outcomes compared to open flap debridement alone.

Adjunctive application of HA gel in open flap debridement may improve clinical and radiographic outcomes.
