In conclusion, our results showed that centrally administered neuropeptide FF is effective in preventing apnea evoked by stimulation of μ-opioid receptors and the effect was due to activation of central NPFF receptors. Our finding indicates a potential target for reversal of opioid-induced respiratory depression.Prostate cancer (PCa) is a major concern in public health, with many genetically distinct subsets. Genomic alterations in PCa are extraordinarily complex, and both germline and somatic mutations are of great importance in the development of this tumor. The aim of this review is to provide an overview of genetic changes that can occur in the development of PCa and their role in potential therapeutic approaches. Various pathways and mechanisms proposed to play major roles in PCa are described in detail to provide an overview of current knowledge.Tin disulfide (SnS2) is regarded as one of the most suitable candidates as the electrode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). However, the easy restacking and volume expansion properties of SnS2 during the charge/discharge process lead to the destruction of the electrode structure and a decrease in capacity. We successfully synthesized a SnS2 nanocrystalline-anchored three-dimensional porous graphene composite (SnS2/3DG) by combining hydrothermal and high-temperature reduction methods. The SnS2 nanocrystalline was uniformly dispersed within the connected reduced graphene oxide matrix. The SnS2/3DG battery showed a high reversible capacity of 430 mAh/g after 50 cycles at 100 mA/g. The SnS2/3DG composite showed an excellent rate capability with the current density increasing from 100 mA/g to 2 A/g. The excellent performance of the novel SnS2/3DG composite is attributed to the porous structure, which not only promoted the infiltration of electrolytes and hindered volume expansion for the porous structure, but also improved the conductivity of the whole electrode, demonstrating that the SnS2/3DG composite is a prospective anode for the next generation of sodium-ion batteries. As the production and use of cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO2 NPs) increases, so does the concern of the scientific community over their release into the environment. Single particle inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry is emerging as one of the best techniques for NP detection and quantification; however, it is often limited by high size detection limits (SDL). To that end, a high sensitivity sector field ICP-MS (SF-ICP-MS) with microsecond dwell times (50 µs) was used to lower the SDL of CeO2 NPs to below 4.0 nm. Ag and Au NPs were also analyzed for reference. SF-ICP-MS was then used to detect CeO2 NPs in a Montreal rainwater at a concentration of (2.2 ± 0.1) × 108 L-1 with a mean diameter of 10.8 ± 0.2 nm; and in a St. Lawrence River water at a concentration of ((1.6 ± 0.3) × 109 L-1) with a higher mean diameter (21.9 ± 0.8 nm). SF-ICP-MS and single particle time of flight ICP-MS on Ce and La indicated that 36% of the Ce-containing NPs detected in Montreal rainwater were engineered Ce NPs.Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) has been commonly used over the years for a wide range of chronic/refractory lesions. Alternatively, autologous micrografting technology is recently becoming a powerful modality for initiating wound healing. The case presented is of a patient with a lower leg ulcer that had responded poorly to NPWT alone for three weeks. Consequently, the patient was put on a combination therapy of NPWT and micrografting. After injection of a dermal tissue micrografts suspension into the entire wound bed, NPWT was performed successively for two weeks, resulting in fresh granulation tissue formation. Thereafter, the autologous skin graft was taken well. This case study indicates that for a chronic/refractory ulcer patient with poor NPWT outcome, combination therapy using micrografting treatment and NPWT could rapidly initiate and enhance granulation tissue formation, creating a favorable bedding for subsequent skin grafting. The goal of this work is to study the influence of different curing systems on the cure characteristics and performance of styrene-butadiene elastomer (SBR) filled with carbon black or nanosized silica. A multifunctional additive for rubber compounds, namely Activ8, was applied as an additional activator and accelerator to increase the efficiency of sulfur vulcanization and to reduce the content of zinc oxide elastomers cured in the presence of 2-mercaptobenzothizole or 1,3-diphenylguanidine as a primary accelerator. The influence of the curing system composition on the crosslink density and physical properties of SBR vulcanizates, such as mechanical properties, thermal stability, and resistance to thermo-oxidative aging, is also reported. Honokiol inhibitor Activ8 effectively supports the vulcanization of SBR compounds, especially filled with nanosized silica. It reduces the optimal vulcanization time of SBR compounds and increases the crosslink density of the vulcanizates. Moreover, vulcanizates with Activ8 exhibit higher tensile strength and better damping properties than elastomer with zinc oxide. Activ8 allows the amount of ZnO to be reduced by 40% without detrimental effects on the crosslink density and mechanical performance compared to the vulcanizates conventionally crosslinked with ZnO. This is an important ecological goal since ZnO is classified as being toxic to aquatic species.Genetic and environmental factors are underlying causes of obesity and other metabolic diseases, so it is therefore difficult to find suitable and effective medical treatments. However, without a doubt, the gut microbiota-and also the bacteria present in the oral cavity-act as key factors in the development of these pathologies, yet the mechanisms have not been fully described. Certainly, a more detailed knowledge of the structure of the microbiota-composition, intra- and inter-species relationships, metabolic functions-could be of great help in counteracting the onset of obesity. Identifying key bacterial species will allow us to create a database of "healthy" bacteria, making it possible to manipulate the bacterial community according to metabolic and clinical needs. Targeting gut microbiota in clinical care as treatment for obesity and health-related complications-even just for weight loss has become a real possibility. In this topical review we provide an overview of the role of the microbiota on host energy homeostasis and obesity-related metabolic diseases, therefore addressing the therapeutic potential of novel and existing strategies (impact of nutrition/dietary modulation, and fecal microbiota transplantation) in the treatment of metabolic disease.
