Gold, silver, and copper small nanoparticles (NPs), with average size ≈2 nm, are synthesized and afterward protected with l- and d-cysteine, demonstrating emergence of chiroptical activity in the wavelength range of 250-400 nm for all three metals with respect to the bare nanoparticles and ligands alone. Silver-cysteine (Ag-Cys) NPs display the higher anisotropy factor, whereas gold-cysteine (Au-Cys) NPs show optical and chiroptical signatures slightly more displaced to the visible range. A larger number of circular dichroism (CD) bands with smaller intensity, as compared to gold and silver, is observed for the first time for copper-cysteine (Cu-Cys) NPs. The manifestation of optical and chiroptical responses upon cysteine adsorption and the differences between the spectra corresponding to each metal are mainly dictated by the metal-ligand interface, as supported by a comparison with calculations of the oscillatory and rotatory strengths based on time-dependent density functional theory, using a metal-ligand interface motif model, which closely resembles the experimental absorption and CD spectra. These results are useful to demonstrate the relevance of the interface between chiral ligands and the metal surfaces of Au, Ag, and Cu NPs, and provide evidence and further insights into the origin of the transfer mechanisms and induction of extrinsic chirality.Lack of novel antifungal agents and severe drug resistance has led to high incidence and associated mortality of invasive fungal infections. To tackle the challenges, novel antifungal agents with anti-resistant potency are highly desirable. Thus, derivatives of curcumin were synthesized to restore the effectiveness of fluconazole (FLC) against FLC-resistant Candida spp. and structure-activity relationships were then discussed. Some novel derivatives showed promising features as novel antifungal lead compounds. Of them, compound 4 showed good alone or synergistic antifungal activity against FLC-resistant Candida spp. DMX-5084 molecular weight Moreover, compound 4 was proven as a potent inhibitor of Candida albicans biofilm formation and yeast-to-hypha morphological transition whether used alone or in combination with FLC, which was further confirmed by the inhibitory effect on cellular surface hydrophobicity of C. albicans. Compound 4 also inhibits intracellular ATP production of C. albicans and disrupts membrane permeability of C. albicans when used in combination with FLC. The results highlighted the potential of curcumin derivatives to overcome fluconazole-related and biofilm-related drug resistance.
Social media provides opportunities for Interventional Radiologists to share research, communicate with colleagues, provide health information and advertise their clinical practice. This study aims to examine the online and social media presence of currently practicing Australian Interventional Radiologists.
Systematic Google searches were undertaken in May 2019 and updated in May 2020 to identify practicing Interventional Radiologists in Australia. Comprehensive searches of practice websites and social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, ResearchGate, YouTube) were undertaken for each Interventional Radiologist.
There were 265 Interventional Radiologists identified as currently practising in Australia, including 209 Interventional Radiologists (excluding Interventional Neuroradiologists), 49 Interventional Neuroradiologists and 7 that practise across both Interventional Radiology and Interventional Neuroradiology. 72% of Interventional Radiologists had at least one social media account, with LinkedIn the most widely used social media platform (60%). There was a significant negative correlation between the total number of social media accounts and years in practice (P=0.04). Across the states, a higher population per IR was positively correlated with a higher average number of social media accounts per IR (P=0.04). Interventional Neuroradiologists had a significantly higher average number of social media accounts compared to Interventional Radiologists (1.94 vs 1.29, P<0.01).
Most Australian Interventional Radiologists have a readily identifiable social media presence. There is potential for further utilisation of social media for academic, educational and business purposes.

In addition, new emerging respiratory viruses regularly cause outbreaks such as SARS-CoV-1 in 2003, the "Swine flu" in 2009, or most importantly the ongoing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, which intensely impact global health, social life, and economy. Despite the prevalence of AVRIs and an urgent need, no vaccines-except for influenza-or effective treatments were available at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the innate RNAi pathway offers the ability to develop nucleic acid-based antiviral drugs. siRNA sequences against conserved, essential regions of the viral genome can prevent viral replication. In addition, viral infection can be averted prophylactically by silencing host genes essential for host-viral interactions. Unfortunately, delivering siRNAs to their target cells and intracellular site of action remains the principle hurdle toward their therapeutic use. Currently, siRNA formulations and chemical modifications are evaluated for their delivery. This progress report discusses the selection of antiviral siRNA sequences, delivery techniques to the infection sites, and provides an overview of antiviral siRNAs against respiratory viruses.Atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH) is an indication for excisional biopsy to rule out occult breast cancer. We analyzed pathological findings on excisional biopsy for ADH diagnosed in a high volume breast center equipped with digital tomosynthesis. Two hundred consecutive patients were diagnosed with ADH on core biopsy with radiographic concordance followed by excisional biopsy. On excisional biopsy, 33 patients (16.5%) were diagnosed with DCIS or invasive breast cancer. Patients with a concurrent diagnosis of papilloma had a higher risk of upstaging on both univariate and multivariate analysis (41.7% vs. 14.9%, p=0.015). No other statistically significant predictors of upgrading were identified (p>0.05).
