Verification of the [Na+]i/[K+]i-sensitive transcription regulation mechanism should be continued in forthcoming studies.The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of hydrocolloid dressings in the treatment of grade I, II, III, and IV pressure ulcers in adult patients. We compared the therapeutic effects of hydrocolloids and alternative dressings in pressure ulcer treatment. We conducted a systematic review, using a literature search only in English, from database inception until 20 April 2020, to identify randomized trials comparing various types of dressings applied in the healing of pressure ulcers. The databases were PubMed, Embase, and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL). The study selection was performed independently by two reviewers. Data were extracted based on the guidelines included in the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocol. The risk of bias in the included studies was assessed using a standardized critical appraisal instrument developed by the Cochrane Collaboration. Random-effect meta-analysis of data from three or more studies was performed using meta-analysis software (Comprehensive Meta-Analysis V3, Biostat, New Jersey, USA). A total of 1145 records were identified, of which 223 were qualified after further verification, of which eight were finally included in further analysis. Hydrocolloid dressings were not superior to control therapeutics (p = 0.839; Z = 0.203; CI 95% 0.791-1.334). They were not associated with higher healing rates (p = 0.718; Z = 0.361; OR 0.067; CI 95% 0.297-0.431), nor did they decrease the incidence of adverse events compared with control therapeutics (p = 0.300; Z = -1.036; OR 0.067; CI 95% 0.394-1.333). In the above cases, Egger's test also did not indicate publication bias (t value = 0.779, p = 0.465; t value = 1.198, p = 0.442; t value = 0.834, p = 0.465, respectively). The present meta-analysis shows that hydrocolloid dressings are not significantly better than alternative ones in the healing of pressure ulcers in adult patients.Chronic autoimmune thyroiditis (CAT) defines a diffuse intrathyroidal lymphocytic infiltration associating a destructive process of the thyroid follicles, most commonly in evolution developing hypothyroidism. Typical ultrasound changes may suggest the presence of the disease. This study aims to evaluate the performance of strain elastography in detecting autoimmune thyroiditis as an additional tool to the conventional ultrasound examination. A total of 250 patients were enrolled in the study; 180 had biochemical confirmation of CAT, the other 70 healthy subjects represented the control group. All patients were examined clinically and by means of conventional thyroid ultrasound (US) and real-time elastography using a Hitachi Preirus machine (5-15 MHz linear probe). Five valid measurements for the parenchyma/muscle strain ratios (SR) were taken for each subject, considering the mean value for analysis. A mean SR value above 1.64 was found to predict the presence of CAT with sensitivity (Sen) 69%, specificity p92%, positive predictive value (PPV) 95.4%, negative predictive value (NPV) 54% and area under receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) 0.87. Moreover, when comparing the mean values for SR, significantly higher values were found in CAT patients compared with the controls (2.81 ± 2.11 vs. 1.03 ± 0.51; p less then 0.0001). Of the 180 CAT subjects, 92 were on thyroid hormone replacement therapy; significantly higher values were detected for patients under therapy compared with asymptomatic cases (3.45 ± 2.53 vs. 2.15 ± 1.27, p less then 0.0001). A cut-off value of 2.94 was established for identifying CAT patients who needed hormonal treatment (Sen 52.3%, Sp 83.7%, PPV 75.4%, NPV 64.7% and AUROC 0.66). No correlation was found between stiffness and antibody titers nor for functional status. In this review, our goal was to systematize the recent findings on the structure, mechanisms, and purpose of CDI systems in bacterial populations and discuss the potential biological and evolutionary impact of CDI-mediated interbacterial competition and/or cooperation.
Thailand has implemented a sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) excise tax since September 2017, but questions remain about changes in individual-level SSB consumption after tax implementation. This study aimed to analyze the change in taxed and non-taxed SSB consumption in the Thai population.
This cohort study was carried out in 2018 and 2019. A total of 5594 persons who participated in both years were included in the analysis. Descriptive and
-test analyses were carried out in order to identify the significance of the difference between taxed and non-taxed SSB consumption in 2018 and 2019.
A lower mean ratio of average taxed SSBs consumed to average non-taxed SSBs consumed was found to be statistically significant (
= 0.001). That is, the decline in taxed SSB consumption is significantly greater than that of the non-taxed consumption. The greater reduction in taxed SSB consumption than the non-taxed SSB consumption was found to be significant among males, older persons, the lower-income population, and the unemployed.
