COVID-19 is a global pandemic. The purpose of this study is to explore correlations between the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and meteorological indicators from cities across China.

We collected daily data of the cumulative number of infected, recovered and death cases, and the meteorological indicators including average temperature, wind speed, relative humidity, precipitation and air quality index (AQI) from 12 cities in China during the period of Jan 23 to Feb 22, 2020. Correlation tests were chosen for data analysis.

The average temperature and AQI showed significant association with the mortality rate of COVID-19. The mortality rate was not correlated with wind speed, relative humidity or precipitation. Meanwhile, higher average temperatures and more precipitation were beneficial for the recovery rate of COVID-19, but the recovery rate was not correlated with wind speed, relative humidity or AQI.

Our study provides a new basis for correlations between COVID-19, meteorological indicators and air quality index, which can help authorities to combat COVID-19.

Until 1 July 2020, Mauritania health authorities reported 41 862 serologic and real-time reverse transcriptase PCR tests performed, of which 4472 (10.7%) were positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Male subjects were significantly more affected (57.1%) than female subjects (42.9%). Individuals of the age groups 15-34 years (35.8%) and 35-54 years (36.6%) were the most affected. There were 129 deaths (2.9%), 1677 recoveries (37.5%) and 2666 active cases (59.6%) of which 2261 (84.8%) were asymptomatic, 394 (14.7%) had mild symptoms and 11 (0.4%) had severe symptoms. A large proportion of fatalities (72%, 85/118) occurred among adults aged ≥55 years. Of 4472 positive cases, 4241 (94.8%) were infected through contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case, 133 (3.0%) had no contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case and 98 (2.2%) were imported. As a response to COVID-19, the Mauritanian authorities announced a set of preventive measures, including closure of land and air borders, night curfew, closure of markets, schools and universities and restriction of movement between cities. KRIBB11 molecular weight Control measures included the systematic testing of symptomatic patients, isolation and management of active cases, contact tracing and quarantine of people who have been in contact with a COVID-19-positive individual. We discuss the efforts of the Mauritanian government to combat this potentially life-threatening pneumonia.
Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is reported as the second most common nosocomial infection among critically ill patients with the incidence ranging from 2 to 16 episodes per 1000 ventilator days. The use of probiotics has been shown to have a promising effect in many RCTs. Our systematic review and meta-analysis were thus planned to determine the effect of probiotic use in critically ill ventilated adult patients on the incidence of VAP, length of hospital stay, length of ICU stay, duration of mechanical ventilation, the incidence of diarrhea, and the incidence of oropharyngeal colonization and in-hospital mortality.

Systematic search of various databases (such as Embase, Cochrane, and Pubmed), published journals, clinical trials, and abstracts of the various major conferences were made to obtain the RCTs which compare probiotics with placebo for VAP prevention. The results were expressed as risk ratios or mean differences. Data synthesis was done using statistical software - Review Manager (RevMan), length of ICU stay, and in-hospital mortality.
Our meta-analysis shows that probiotic administration has a promising role in lowering the incidence of VAP, the duration of mechanical ventilation, length of ICU stay, and in-hospital mortality.Pulmonary vasculitis can be the manifestation of several systemic illnesses such as primary systemic vasculitis, collagen vascular diseases, and systemic diseases associated with autoantibodies. It may be associated with granulomatous, eosinophilic, lymphoplasmacytic and neutrophilic inflammatory diseases. In this case report, we describe a 22-year-old female presented with intermittent fever, sweating and shivering, haemoptysis, sore throat, shortness of breath, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, non-projectile vomiting, dizziness, and dark coloured urine. The diagnosis of granulomatosis with polyangiitis was made utilizing biochemical and radiological tests. Several pharmacological therapies were tried including rituximab. The patient made a good recovery and was discharged home after 12 days of hospitalization. The knowledge of the main radiographic and computed tomography (CT) scan findings, in association with clinical and laboratory data, often enables non-invasive diagnosis of pulmonary vasculitis.A 35-year-old Thai women (gravida 3, para 0) at 36 weeks and five days of gestation was admitted to a delivery room due to premature rupture of membrane. She was diagnosed with Escherichia coli with extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) chorioamnionitis and septic shock leading to signs of fetal distress. She underwent emergency caesarean section. Post-operatively, the patient developed severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), massive pulmonary haemorrhage, and intra-abdominal bleeding. Lung protective strategy and recruitment manoeuvres were applied; however, her oxygenation and haemodynamic parameters worsened. Twenty consecutive hours of prone positioning was performed as a rescue procedure to improve patient's oxygenation and allow the patient to undertake surgical re-exploration for abdominal compartment syndrome management safely. Neither high ventilator setting nor re-positioning was needed after the second operation.
To investigate the prevalence and clinical significance of anti-calreticulin autoantibodies (anti-CRT Ab) in a large cohort of idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) patients.

Sera from 469 patients with IIM, 196 patients with other connective tissue diseases, 28 patients with solid tumors and 81 healthy controls were screened for anti-CRT Ab by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay using human recombinant CRT protein. Sera from 35 IIM patients were tested using an immunoprecipitation assay to confirm the presence of anti-CRT Ab. Subsequently, IIM-cancer patients were identified and divided into new-onset, remission and recurrent groups based on their cancer status. The relationships between anti-CRT Ab levels and IIM disease activity were also investigated.

Serum anti-CRT Ab was detected positive in 81 of the 469 (17.3%) IIM patients. Immunoprecipitated bands were observed at a molecular weight of 60kDa corresponding to the CRT protein. The IIM patients with anti-CRT Ab more frequently had cancers compared to the patients without anti-CRT Ab.
